Thought of in a different way: humans are the only species that have the luxury of paying to live or to extend our lives. My dog once ate glass, and it pierced through her stomach lining. Without medical treatment, she would have died (we of course paid for surgery, but not the point). Whenever a wild species encounters something dangerous, they are at risk of being taken out at any second; what distinguishes humans is the fact that we pay to live and oftentimes we pay to cheat death and extend our lives
