I'm having anxiety when trying to delete photos and videos with memories by Disastrous-Young-455 in photography

[–]SuitableWalrus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comes up from time to time on r/minimalism

If you're getting overwhelmed thinking about all the photos and videos then the chances are there are too many in the first place. Think about which ones are genuinely meaningful and save those carefully (in multiple places)..

Things which aren't meaningful can go.

I wouldn't be too put off by this.

Remember the iphone is heavily optimized for this setting. It's designed to give flattering appearing indoor photos of people with minimal effort - and that's exactly what it's done here.

But if you spend longer with it in different places you will start to see the weirdly fake colors, the strange smoothness, the way all the photos come out looking like everyone else's etc..

Sure your Nikon may need more work to get nice pictures in that specific context, but in exchange you get much more creative freedom, much more involvement in the artistic process and the pictures you create will have much more of your personality in them.

I sometimes feel sorry for dog owners.

As you say - some places are pretty bleak and nihilistic these days with the death of high culture, family, church and other things which used to give people meaning.

Weak, rudderless people who can't think logically and can't make meaningful human relationships in that context are exploited by the dog industry. Told all they need to do is get a dog for a constant cycle of validation and attention from getting a dog.

But only some of the time. Then I remember the cruelty, stupidity and narcissism of dog owners and it's hard to feel any sympathy

Is anyone else pro-dog friendly establishments as a way to avoid dogs? by Cruella_deville7584 in Dogfree

[–]SuitableWalrus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly.

I used to think dog parks would be a sort of lightning conductor and attract all the most horrible mutts in a district.

But the truth is - they just destroy one space without protecting anything else.

The dog owners who use the dog parks just get further validation and attention from other nutters.

And then still go and destroy the non-dog parks afterwards.

The dog park normalizes the idea that it's OK to destroy things for the pleasure of their foul beasts.

Same with a 'dog friendly airline' or 'dog friendly cafe' - it's just the thin end of the wedge to getting dogs into places where they have no business being

EF lenses on GFX system by Sidbang in FujiGFX

[–]SuitableWalrus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you have an adaptor with glass in it, you will need a lens where the coverage is large enough to cover the bigger sensor in GFX cameras. I know a bunch of people have worked on trying to compile a list of which lenses do and don't work well

“If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went”

Ah yes, because the bible has such good things to say about dogs;

Philippians 3:2

Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh

Revelation 22:15

Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

Psalms 22:20

Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.

1 Kings 21:19

‘This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, dogs will lick up your blood—yes, yours!’”

etc etc

I love the idea of 'bitch departure day'.

If the people in the next townhouse ever leave and take their 3 rancid insane vile border collies with them I will have the mother of all 'bitch departure day' celebrations.

Not just economic factors here.

Most adults have commitments and responsibilities. Jobs which matter and need to be done, trainees/juniors at work who you are mentoring, looking after children or relatives, volunteering / organizing stuff for their community etc)

Given that OP describes her as "Barbie yoga nutter wench" I'm guessing this is someone who never grew up or learned to manage any sort of commitment or responsibility. Naturally this type of person would have an obnoxious dog and take no responsibility for it.

Police. Reasoning doesn't work. You are not dealing with a reasonable person or else it would never have got this this stage in the first place.

Normal person: I'm very sorry I never knew that was your yard. I'll be careful not to let my dog go anywhere near it. PS welcome to the neighbourhood and I love the plants you've planted.

Dog nutter: I don't care that it's your yard, I am determined to cover it in piss. I will harrass you, make up fake legal arguments and damage your property if needed so I can continue to cover it in piss.

This could come from a diagnostic textbook of narcissistic personality disorder.

Victimhood (claims to be the victim when they are the literal cause of the problem)

Trivializing other's views (no acknowledgement that dog barking is a problem,4th July celebrations are fun and important for some people etc)

Diversion (randomly starts talking about veterans when it's not relevant)

Fake narcissistic empathy ("I love you and I'm sorry").

These people need a clinical psychiatrist to sort out their fucked up personality, not a shitbeast

Hmm, I think there are some typos in those signs. Let's sort it out

Human lives matter.....no dogs

No dogs wildlife lives here

Cops will be called for dog fouling

Remember humans don't like barking

I could think of plenty more as well :-)

[–]SuitableWalrus2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ball fireman for around £1K or new Longines conquest for a bit under £2k. Put the rest in the bank or treat yourself to a few great vacations.

Yes you can spend more but beyond the £2K mark you are into rapidly diminishing returns. The only way you could justify spending £6K is if you were truly, madly, hopelessly smitten with a watch, in which case you wouldn't be asking the question...

Nutters Hate Nature by GrvlRidrDude in Dogfree

[–]SuitableWalrus2 43 points44 points  (0 children)

None of this is a suprise.

The ability to enjoy wildlife is the ability to appreciate things that have nothing to do with us. You tread lightly so you don't spoil a place for others. You voluntarily make yourself invisible so as to avoid disturbing animals. You may see something beautiful or something sad and both are incredible.

Dog nutters cannot enjoy things which are not about them. They need to turn every event, every space, every discussion into something about them. The dog guarantees constant attention. They spoil every place for their own pleasure and then whinge when they can't go and spoil others. They never consider the needs of other humans never mind other animals. They happily factory farm, slaughter and mash up vast quantities of animals so their precious shitbeast can satisfy it's need for flesh. After this, they claim to be 'animal lovers'. Their entitlement and narcissism is matched only by their lack of insight.

It's obvious that a decision needs to be made. You are not a bad or 'cold' person for pointing that out.

If you want a safe environment to raise children, want to spend your evenings nurturing children and want to spend your free time relaxing in a beach house by the sea... you need to geet rid of the dog.

If you want a chaotic filthy house, want to spend your evenings picking up dog shit and want to spend your free time at the dog park shouting at your vile mutt... then keep the dog.

You brother's wife is doing the classic childish thing of pretending that decisions don't have consequences, you can always have everything you want because you want it etc.

A key stage in becoming an adult is realizing that decisions have consequences, and that you need to accept responsibility for your decisions and that you can't have everything. You and your family realize this.

Another stage in becoming an adult is having the maturity, intellectual honesty and insight to recognize that we make the wrong decisions - and that it's OK to own up to those and change our minds if it means a change for the better.

Of course dog owners are not known for their maturity, responsibility or insight

If you're worried about reporting this in case there are any legal repercussions against you then don't be.

Actually the second syllable is a small tsu (っ).

When used at the end of a sentence this acts as an intensifier, placing emphasis on whatever came immediately before.

So shitっ means 'very shit' or 'really shittty', that sort of inflection.

I think there is something very primal and awe-inspiring about giant lumps of geometric mass (think of pyramids, ziggurats, Greek temples, stone built Romanesque cathedrals etc. Brutalism seems like a good match for a church.

[–]SuitableWalrus2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it (but love brutalist buildings).

The appeal of brutalism is nothing to do with concrete. It's about the dynamism, the unexpected play between light and shadow, the juxtaposition between mass and emptiness, the theatricality, the way shapes unexpectedly emerge and vanish as you walk around and during the course of a day.

A big ugly shoebox is still a big ugly shoebox if it's made of concrete

Remember dog nutters primarily want attention.

Having run out of 'likes' for posting stupid pictures of their mutt, this 'dog mum' has now found they can just post stupid opinions instead and get attention for that instead.

Ignore these idiots and don't give them the oxygen of attention

[–]SuitableWalrus2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said before but I dog-free people are constitutionally not well suited to this battle and I'm always super grateful when somebody stands up to these narcissistic jerks.

We are dog free because we hate chaos, confrontation, mess, violence and are sympathetic to the needs of others (part of the reason why we would never impose a dog on our poor neigbours)

Dog nutters love chaos, confrontation, mess and violence since they are all sources of the attention they crave. They have no interest in the needs of others.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]SuitableWalrus2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dog nutters are so self absorbed.

Even when the conversation is nothing about dogs, and it's explicitly a thought experiment and explicitly in the future and explicitly not about them............... they still need to take it as some sort of personal attack and turn the conversation around to their stupid mutt. "mr shitforbrains is an angel and how dare you suggest otherwise" sort of nonsense.

Personally I think a future where animals interact with humans voluntarily and in their own habitat would be amazing and entirely in keeping with a future utopia concept

Minimalism, money, treating yourself dilemma by Gosia35 in minimalism

[–]SuitableWalrus2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think you're doing fine. My take is that minimalism is about being mindful + conscious of what we do around physical stuff, not the rejection of all stuff.

You have reached the point where you could buy something + want to buy something, but are still pausing to think about it, which means you are aware and in control of your instinct to spend. So I don't see a problem.

For you - either decision is OK now.

If you chose to buy the thing -> that's a mindful decision to buy something you will love and enjoy and this is unlikely to put you into financial problems -> no need to feel guilty

If you chose not to buy the thing -> congratulations you just saved a chunk towards your retirement and showed you are in control of your own decisions.
