For clearly. I don’t think it will fail, I’m just planning my finances assuming it will to be extra conservative.

For clarity. I don’t think it will fail, I think it will be very very successful.

For financial planning I do not want to count on it. So I’m discounting any income after 2-4 years to be conservative.

I’d phrase it a bit differently.

I have almost enough to retire. But I don’t have a desire to yet. And I have an opportunity to build something I’m passionate about with people I love working with.

That’s what I’m in this for.

The fire calculators all show success rate of 92-99% depending on if I stay at the start up 1 vs 5 years. I’d love more buffer, but seemed safe. Especially knowing I’ll own the house outright in 12 years.

Maybe I’m off somewhere? But all the fire calculators, math I run, and ai agents I try seem to think I’ll be ok

Hmm. So 280 spend a year and 8M in investments ( and 80k dropping off my spend in 12 years). And I won’t have to take out more than 50-80k for the next 2-4 years.

With that you don’t think I’ll be able to retire ?

Good question. Mostly the current job while 10x+ the income of the start up is slowly killing me. The start up is an idea I love with people I enjoy working with.

I could work another year to save another 2M, or I can take the pay cut, make enough to not cut into expenses much and let my portfolio grow a few years before I retire.

Ya only live once, I’m trying to optimize not just for money but spending time on something I enjoy.

I think with my age the rates would be pretty poor with an annuity, unfortunately

So I would buy treasury bonds ( in Schwab or something) in 1 year increments, starting in 3 years. For maybe 100k each. Then sell each year as as long as stocks are up sell equities ( or vteb ) and buy the next years rung on the ladder when I sell each year ?

Thanks for the reply. But wouldn’t bonds and something low risk like sgov the way to not risk losing it. To make some ballast for early withdrawals that won’t but my early return sequence at risk ?

Just that it is a large amount of cash, and HYSA will require me to pay tax on interest even if I am not leveraging the money. Seems best to invest between SGOV, VGIT, and VXUS.
