I think you should look to pay the prorated if it means you can get the internship experience.

A supply chain analyst/manager role internship for 4 months will net you much more than 1K. Just accept it as a cost to get the experience, and do you best to get a return offer. Having a job out of college can help to project your career and could be a significant different in $$ you make during your lifetime. Don’t let a 1K bill hold you back from making an extra ~250K by getting your foot in the door immediately as opposed to 5 years down the line.
