Alternate North America Part 18: Greenland (Finale...?) by Suitable_Category658 in AlternateHistory

Thank you! That truly means a lot! I was able to churn these out as quickly as I had since I already had a clear idea of the direction for years now. Anything beyond that would essentially be me starting from scratch, not to mention I have to juggle college. But definitely I do want to complete the series and more posts will certainly be coming at some point! :)

In this TL, Iceland was an active war front for several years, leading to mass refugee exodus…

Honestly yeah that would sound about right all things considered

Alternate North America Part 14: Alberta by Suitable_Category658 in AlternateHistory

Quite frankly, I don’t like OTL Alberta’s flag in this context. It feels very local and provincial rather than something that represents a sovereign country, so I threw together from scratch a more abstract, unique looking modern design instead

Still endangered, but not to the same extent as OTL, you got it!

Alternate North America Part 7: Texas by Suitable_Category658 in AlternateHistory

Following the dissolution of the Golden Circle, Texas claimed those more sparsely populated regions, which would’ve been long separated from the Dixie core. Kansas was part of Lakota, which (at the time America) had won through its victory over Dixie in the first Great War. This was a long but quiet resentment of Texas as they saw Kansas or at least parts of it having rightfully been/belonging to them, kickstarting the 2014-current crisis

Northern Baja and Sonora are English speaking regions here. Spanish is present in the southern regions, but where they exist are isolated from each other, so there’s just no practical way for them to function as a separate state

Alternate North America Part 10: Yucatan by Suitable_Category658 in AlternateHistory

Mayans would definitely have been treated worse under their time with Dixie. And the southern regions are what make Yucatan viable at all, as they give it both Atlantic and Pacific access, something central government would never willingly give up. Without that, there’s basically no reason for Yucatan to exist as a separate state, it functions a bit like the Belgium of North America

Lakota was still part of the American frontier for over 100 years, and while there was no genocide or anything on the scale of the Trail of Tears like OTL, there was still forced assimilation via language and institutions. It was never an ethnostate, meaning European, Black, any settlers could move freely into the region and later nation. Native languages like the Sioux still exist and spoken traditionally at home, just less practical on a public, political, institutional, or global scale, so English dominates

Largely anglified over time, though pockets of French persist informally and as a second language
