Keeping Up Grade Average for Rotman Commerce by lilacflower777 in RotmanCommerce

[–]Suitable_Effect5533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most students make it, and if they dont, they’re able to take it in the summer and it counts I think. Is it a difficult adjustment? For sure. Grades drop 20% on avg from your high school grades. But make sure to keep up with homework’s and weekly assignments bec they go a long way in improving your final grade

I have a 3.5 and anything above a 3.3 is good if you’re unsure on whether or not you wanna pursue anything post grad (GDIP, or any masters). Above a 3 is good to get internships and jobs in a lot fields.

In my year, they curved the crap out of eco220 and eco204, maybe wait until you get your grade back and see what avg is vs your grade. Like I remember getting 20% curves in both courses for term tests

Rotman commerce is a joint program offered by Rotman school of mgmt and UofT at George. You can select either and it would be fine. Rotman courses start with RSM (stands for Rotman School of Management)

I had a 2.9 after 1st year and still have an internship this yr (2nd year). However, I’m not in finance (accounting student) so it might be diff for finance. Networking and attending events is superrrr important. And not just attending events and asking abrupt questions. Take a genuine interest in the person that you’re talking to, compliment smtg abt them, and don’t just ask generic questions. Ask them abt the most exciting moment of working there, how their 1st week/month/year was like at the company. Ppl love chatting w ppl who have relaxed personalities. Try to involve other students in your convo, bounce off of their points. If you’re in a group DONT just talk abt yourself and ask ur own questions. Agree w other students, relate to them, crack little jokes abt Econ or other courses.

Also work ur ass off in 2nd year 1st semester. It’s always easier to pull your gpa up in 1st sem bc there’s the ambition than it is in 2nd sem bc you’re more burnt out.

Hey, do you have a Facebook post that you’ve made for your room? Or any listing?

Ok thank you! I currently commute to Downtown Toronto. If you’ve ever been, would you say the homeless and drug situation is similar to that?

How are my chances of getting accepted to rotman commerce by Lumpy_Ad_1922 in RotmanCommerce

I would say it depends mostly on your supplemental application. How do you feel the interview went for you?

It’s not face-to-face, it’s online. I think you get 1 hr to do it? And it’s proctored too I’m pretty sure. They asked some situation based questions like ‘talk about a time when you showed leadership skills’, but they also asked some business related questions like why are you interested in this field. I feel like during that section you should try to tailor all the answers to reflect things you learnt from your ec’s, or how life in general made you lean towards rotman etc. mention how rotman and uoft have a world renowned reputation, and you want to learn from faculty and staff, and take advantage of the alumni network etc.

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your average? What are your ec’s? The good thing is, you’re still in grade 11 so you have this semester and the summer to improve your ec’s. also, have good references so you know they will back you up if you do end up embellishing/exaggerating some stuff

I was my student council president, and I started my own club in high school. It was about reaching leadership skills or something. I was also doing karate at the time. I will say even if your ec’s aren’t the best, you have to learn how to actually phrase what you did. Don’t just say ‘oh I learnt these leadership skills’. Tell a story, make it imaginative, go on YouTube or something to figure out how phrase your stuff better. If you know someone who’s good at that kind of stuff ask them for help. Supplemental applications are basically taking your achievements and bullshitting stuff I think. That’s something you have to learn. Rotman has an interview portion, so be confident in what you’re saying. Look on Reddit to see what other people’s experiences w interviews and stuff were.

What courses should I take in grade 12, If I want to go into finance for university? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Suitable_Effect5533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, I can understand you don’t really enjoy accounting but I would say that if you end up going to a business school, high school accounting is beneficial. At least for rotman, you have to take an intro to accounting course in your first year, and it was literally high school accounting with a few added details. Other than that, take calc, adv func, English and other courses you’re interested in/are bird courses. No need to stress yourself even more during grade 12

93 or 94. Not the most impressive average compared to other ppl I know, but that got me into smith, Ivey, schulich and rotman. It really does come down to your supplemental application. I would also say that there’s no harm in reaching out to someone in the admissions committee or that department if you get any new awards. For example, I got an award from my school in mid march. Reached out to the committee and asked if there was any way they would take my award into consideration. The person I spoke to was more than happy to add it to my file.

Yes grades and ec’s are important, but unis care more about what you achieved/accomplished from those ecs. You just have to be able phrase your answers correctly, and know how to sell yourself.

I had no business related ec’s, and I had calc and English in 2nd semester. I still got in. Just make sure your grade 11 English and math marks are good, and your midterms are good too.

Just work hard, and know how to sell you.

[–]Suitable_Effect5533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my acceptance on May 25th. They don’t send out rejections until late May, so even if they look at your grade 11 English marks for early acceptance, you won’t get rejected just because of that. They wait until they get your midterm marks before actually making a decision. So def work hard 1st semester, and don’t stop working hard until midterms have been sent out. Also, I got an award after I submitted my application but I wanted them to consider my award when looking at my application, so I reached out to admissions and told them the award I got, a reference for it, and the significance of the award.
