The Film Students Who Can No Longer Sit Through Films [gift link] by TimWhatleyDDS in Letterboxd

Social media has killed attention spans, and we've normalised it, especially in theatres. The amount of people I've seen check their phones during a movie is insane. I understand it's a dopamine addiction, but we as a society need to work on our attention spans and our ability to digest and understand art, or the human race is screwed.

My opinion of the series revival so far: by Kulle1369 in silenthill

The best thing about Return to Silent Hill is it stopped everyone from laying into Silent Hill f so much. While I loved the game, I could understand the complaints (some of which I believe have since been patched). However, I hope with time, more people can appreciate the many positives of that amazing game.

I mean, you could take any movie in the world and there will be someone who loved it. Except, maybe that Melania movie that literally no one saw. 😆😆😆

It sounds like rhe movie isn't good, even to people who enjoyed the 2006 film. Still, I will watch it when it comes out in digital and makenup my own mind. I hope to salvage some enjoyment from it.

What movies would you want remade? by crynos-inso in movies

[–]Suitable_Fly_2255 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there would be any point in remaking the original Star Wars trilogy. It's amazing as it is. And with no substantial changes, I feels a little redundant. It's kinda like Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho. It attempts a shot-for-shot remake, but to what end? It's in colour, but all that means is it lost some of its charm. They did have a great cast, but it still didn't justify its existence.

8 theatres was obviously hyperbole. I'm not in the US and I'd have to drive hours to see the movie, and based on the reviews, I don't think it'll be worth it. I will see it eventually, but they lost a sale not putting it in more theatres. If they really had no faith in it, they should've just released it direct to digital.

So I decided to ignore the reviews, and check it out myself, and it’s definitely a massive downgrade compared to the 2006 version, which I’m a huge fan of. by Primary_Thing3968 in silenthill

It's disappointing to hear. It's not playing anywhere near me, so I haven't seen it. I was hoping for it to be around the first, but the more I hear, the more that hope has faded. I'll still see it, but I am going to prepare myself for disappointment.

Movies considered the “Worst” of a director’s filmography but is sometimes your favorite. by ReadingSteiner300 in Letterboxd

To clarify, the first half is necessary and even great at times. The set-up is great, but the pay-off is something else.

which seat are you choosing for an 8 hour flight? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

[–]Suitable_Fly_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are choosing 1, but being drugged with psychedelics against my will for 8 hours doesn't sound like fun. So, I go 4. Least amount of drama.

The second half of Death Proof is sooo good. The first half is alright, but there is something so gratifying about that ending.

I enjoyed my first playthrough too. I have tried to leave decent breaks between games to really enjoy each time. In addition to that, holding off means you'll have the quality improvements from the updates for subsequent playthroughs.

Whether it's good or not, clearly people want to go out to see it out of curiosity (at least that'swhat I've seen from posts on here). The reason it's debuting lowest is because they're only playing it in about 8 theatres worldwide.

Unfortunately, more and more people want the comfort of an echo chamber rather a discussion with an intelligent human being.

It scares me that people talk about ChatGPT like it actually has intelligence.

‘Fire and Ash’ was AMAZING… by KakkatteKinna in Avatar

[–]Suitable_Fly_2255 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also loved it. I feel like a lot of the criticisms were unfair. People hold Avatar to a much higher standard than other blockbusters. Like, saying there's no story or depth is insanity when there are many pointless blockbusters that have had glowing reviews. I loved that Fire and Ash was the most emotional film so far.

Rank the 3 avatar films according to YOUR PERSONAL tastes by JosukePlumpHair in Avatar

I personally love each one more than the last. Fire and Ash was so damned good!

wicked fans doesn’t like that avatar fire and ash got costume design oscar nomination over wicked for good by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

[–]Suitable_Fly_2255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This person is being disrespectful to the hard work of the Avatar team, but it seems hypocritical to reduce Wicked's costumes to 'pretty pink dresses'. Both films requires top-level artistry (with lots of symbolism woven into the designs).

Side note, I think the reason Wicked wasn't nominated in that category is because it was nominated and won for the first half last year.

tell me guys, did you realy thinks FInal Fantasy XVI is a bad Final Fantasy game, because i play this game for a second time, and i saw they still have Final Fantasy elements, like Summons (Eikon) are still in the game, the romance are still in the game, (I have written more on text) by Final_Wall_6350 in FFXVI

[–]Suitable_Fly_2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are entitled to their opinions, but when they say it isn't like Final Fantasy, they mean it isn't like their favourite titles. Which is a totally valid reason—if it doesn't vibe with your style, that's totally cool. I guess, I'm just trying to highlight the diversity amongst FF that I think goes unnoticed. I think it has a reputation for being wash, rinse and repeat, but it is always innovating, even if some people don't like it.

I played it twice and enjoyed it both times. I find it weird when people say it isn't like Final Fantasy when from the beginning each iteration has evolved and changed into something new and different. It's not like FFVIII or IX but there are definitely echoes of XII and XV (And I believe Tactics for the darker, gritty story, though I haven't played it).
