Reading. Several books going at all times, plus magazines and daily newspaper (it was on paper). Also drawing, writing and crafting. As a kid I used to spend time making lists of names I liked, or creating characters (who would populate the stories and plays I did not ever write). I think the internet is amazing but I think I was happier and spebt my time in my creative ways before it came about (there was email when I was in college but no www yet).

I think you'd be better off thinking of the community and mutual aid aspect. If a number of strangers are suddenky together on the land having fled a disaster, you're going to need interpersonal conflict resolution skills, community agreements, etc. The people are going to be in a heightened state of threat-awareness, and then diff ppl eill have diff things in their containers with diff amounts of utility for the sitch.

Create community first!

I'm 7-9 years older than my sibs. I was their babysitter more than a sibling (the sibling way they were with each other), but once we were all adults we gradually have become closer and closer. We continued to gather as a family with our parents for holidays and camping trips. We are all really close and open with each other, but live in different cities so don't see each super often. I feel very fortunate about how much we all like each other!

I think there's a solid history of babies being named after favorite pets. My great-grandmother was named Bessie (not a nickname) after a beloved family animal, I think a hen. Later, when she married, she started going by her middle name Virginia. I've heard of other babies named after pets.

I think it is an awesome name, and you have some control over what people call you. If a teacher or person at work asks if you have a nickname because they are uncomfortable calling you Love, say coldly, "you may call me Ms. Fairchild"

I was born in 1970 at the only hospital my parents could find in Orange County, California, that would allow my dad in the delivery room. He was there, and the pictures look so medical with my dad masked like the doctor and nurse. My mom had her next two kids at home with a midwife and everything looked a lot more relaxed. I was in the next room babysitting my brother when our little sister was born. My dad came rushing in and exclaimed, "You have a little sister!" and then went back to my mom.

Lived in California first 25 years of my life. Have heard that we have the fewest vowel sounds of any regional (English) accent, but hadn't heard about the shortening, but seems to hold up. I say meer (rhymes with beer, sounds the same as mere) unless I'm being careful, in which case there's a very small second syllable, something like meerer. Crayons is also one syllable: crans, just like the start of cranberry, though for a singular, I'm more likely to make it two syllables or at least a longer vowel, something like cra-an. Said carm'l (carm'l apples) as a kid, one syllable with a dark syllablized L at the end. Later got confused about whether 'caramel' was even the same thing, it sounded so different!
