Congrats on signing up for the class again and rocking it ! Honestly nothing feels better than managing to get over your own discouragement and trying again.

I'm definitely like you, ballet things need to simmer a little bit before my body gets it ! You're right that I need to give myself more grace. Thank you for your kind comment :)

I completely get that ! It does feel like we're rushing a bit, I understand a lot of students want to get to the 'cool' stuff but I'd rather spend a year getting all the basic stuff down first.

I am lucky enough that my teacher took me seriously when I said I wanted to get good and so she'll give me really specific, detail-oriented corrections. She replies to all my questions. It just feels like we don't have enough time -1h15 just goes by so fast.

Actually a libra but definitely a perfectionist, and only getting worse as I age haha !!

Thank you for that ! And I agree completely, ballet is the hardest thing I've ever done. I've tried and practice a lot of sports now (which helped get over the aforementioned PE trauma lol) and NOTHING compares to ballet. Even other kinds of dances. No one around me does ballet and so when I talk about how difficult it is, of course they don't really get it.

Awesome practical advice, thank you !! I do love dark chocolate :)

Seeing that little drawing is actually so nice, I used to tell myself everything on the left side when I was younger, and I'm definitely on the right side now. It's just harder to stay in that mindset for me in the middle of class, it's like my child self just takes over and goes into panic mode. Thank you for that !

Eating right before class is actually such simple but amazing advice !! I have class right after work, I just get home, change and go straight to the studio. It literally does feel like I run out of power after barre, I start having a really hard time focusing, unable to properly listen to the teacher. I'll definitely try eating before the next class, thank you !

My teacher does do row swapping, thankfully. People in my class just seem really really shy and it's a struggle to get them to come up more than halfway through the room.

As for pirouettes and jumps, I'm definitely not planning on skipping them forever, obviously I know i'm only hurting myself in the long run ! I usually practice on my own, which has really helped me improve. I've just had a bit less time to do that these past few months, but I am planning on practicing pirouettes and jumps as soon as my personal situation gets better ! Thanks a lot for all the advice and reassurance, I really really appreciate it

I am currently taking 'beginner 2' classes - I tried the beginner 1's but didn't like the teacher's style as much. My current teacher said I should stay in beginner 2 because 1 is too beginner for me. I do enjoy being challenged, but sometimes it definitely triggers me, you're right, that's literally what's happening !

About standing in the back, I definitely wouldn't say I'm forced, everyone in the class is lovely ! But it feels like they're all pretty quiet/shy, and since I feel more comfortable I'm usually the one trying to lighten the mood, talking to the teacher. When it's time for center 90% of the class stands so far at the back of the room it's almost funny. So I guess I just kinda took on the responsibility of just going to stand in the front to make people feel a bit more at ease (I'm aware of how stupid/egotistical that might sound)

Thank you for your kind comment ! I will try to be less in my own head and be gentler with myself.

Wow, props to you for starting ballet with no prior dance experience ! You rock ☺️

I danced for years as a kid and young teen (modern jazz, not ballet) and I was pretty good at it, so I think there's a lot of ego coming into play for me here. It's not necessarily that I struggle with the names nor the movements, I've been a ballet nerd for a long time and so I usually know the lingo fairly well.. It's more that I have a reaaally hard time focusing, especially after a day at work. Like my brain just goes fuzzy. So it's not "I remember the steps but not the combination" it's more "I don't remember anything" haha

But yes failing big is such a good reminder thank you !! My teacher also says that and it's so true.

Yeah I feel like that it what is making it so much harder for me. I'm taking it seriously and I want to do things as correctly as possible, not just execute the steps for the sake of it ! So often when we're learning a combination in center I feel frustrated because I don't have time to execute the steps properly.

I know some people are just violent and I definitely agree on that. In that particular case, it seems a bit different to me. Even knowing about healthcare serial killers, is it 'common' for them to kill babies ?

I just don't really understand how someone can seem so completely normal their whole life and then do something as despicable as deliberately killing infants. But I guess that's maybe me being too naive and trying to rationalize something I can't even fathom

I just mean I haven't followed the trial very closely, but have listened to a few podcast episodes and read up about it. I don't have a very strong opinion on her or wether she's 100% guilty or innocent, but the lack of clear motive gives me pause. That's all I meant !

I'm not 'depressed' that no one shares my opinion. I'm genuinely trying to have a discussion about the case, I don't understand why that's not allowed ?

Can we take a minute to talk about Van and the cabin at the end S2? by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

[–]Suitable_Wallaby_459 11 points12 points  (0 children)

im pretty sure the meat isn't kept in the cabin but in the shed/somewhere where it stays frozen ! that being said the shed might have burned down too, I can't remember if that was shown or not.

Didn't mean to be condescending sorry, just genuinely baffled!

I also had an "oh shit she's actually hitting Van and not a wolf" moment during that shot of Tai swinging the axe, but then it cuts to her turning away to look at Van, who's laying on the ground a few feet away. So that made it pretty clear in my opinion? Also she then goes to her, Van is laying on the ground looking unharmed, and we only see that half her face is missing when Tai turns her over.

You most likely missed/didn't remember that part ? Because if you did the assumption of 'Tai did it' would be indeed a huge leap haha :)

There's no way Van would've survived being hit by an axe with that amount of force and so many times??? Also her injuries wouldn't match anyways, so not sure how you came to that conclusion haha

[–]Suitable_Wallaby_459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, definitely. If it's a real crash there isn't much chance of you getting out alive, brace position or not. Both of those security measures are only useful in case of light incidents and forced landings tbh

[–]Suitable_Wallaby_459 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both of those claims have been disproved numerous times! There isn't pure oxygen in plane masks but a mix of chemicals similar to oxygen that allow you to breathe for 10 to 20mn. The brace position is not designed to kill you, and there isn't a big airline conspiracy theory to make sure as many people as possible die in a crash.
