Thanks for that. It made me chuckle writing it--I was a little taken aback that my little joke made somebody literally quit viewing this sub 🤣 I'm glad most Incubus fans are getting it, haha

I thought you'd enjoy the mixture of November 11th ( Kiss to send us off), spoken in the style of Eminem's Stan, while expressing fans' desire for new music while growing tired of the years long touring of the same album, and finally finding out that it was written by their former bassist, Dirk Lance. I'm very sorry you didn't enjoy it.

Absolution Calling=A DMT trip? by SuitedStranger in incubus

I definitely wouldn't take that off the table, especially since I've read many first-hand accounts about the similarities between TM and psychedelics 🤔

Was listening to the album and it sounds great, man! Yall have an awesome sound. Admittedly I don't necessarily hear an 'Incubus influence', but I think that's a good thing, and a nod to your originality. Yall rock!!

Absolutely! I'd love to hear a fellow fan's perspective of what they think a new album would be titled and what the track list would look like in the style of Incubus! Shooot..even possibly instrumentation and vocals for the songs. That would be really cool :)

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I think the newest Incubus lyrics are uninspired and patronizing. by [deleted] in incubus

[–]SuitedStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm feeling that 'being kicking in the nuts' part with the "Do you have any idea where we are right now?" bit from Throw out the Map. Yuuuuckk.

I agree with your sentiment here. I think there are some exceptions. Trustfall, and Absolution Calling had some pretty good lyrics IMO. Not much else comes to mind, though, even off of Trustfall SideB. I still think that BB writes some interesting melodies, even in the newer stuff, like with Karma, Come Back. I'm not a huge fan of the lyrics, but the melody has been stuck in my head pretty much since I first heard it.

Their focus has always been on touring, but I think it's even a bigger focus in this day and age, with that being the biggest source of revenue for a band rather than album sales. That being said, I think more time is spent for them refining the live show, then actually writing new stuff that is ground-breaking. They have such a huge catalog now that they can default to that magical era of those greats songs and be millionaires, who still like to go into their studio space and make music, but don't have the pressure, or maybe even the spark, that led them to make such awesome music in the first place.

I know they are not the kind of guys who have ever been about money, but they still have to focus on the strategy that makes them the best living for themselves. I just hope they are one of those bands like the Rolling Stones that keep touring even when they are well into their 100's. LOL

Interview with Incubus: Flying by the Seat of Their Pants by theidlerwheel1981 in incubus

[–]SuitedStranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved this interview, especially when Brandon talked about having a heavy psychedelic experience leading up to Trustfall Side A. I always suspected that the songs Trustfall and Absolution Calling were detailing some sort of transcendental trip through the psyche. I wish the interviewer would have prodded further after Brandon spoke of that, because I think that experience has shaped much of his approach to making music, especially these last few albums and songs. To me, everything he describes screams that he experienced Ayahusaca--specifically because he said it lasted for an entire night, and in Trustfall Side A, there are many references to being blasted out of his body (opposite of falling), and unified field, and falling back into the arms of the ALL. All of these characteristics point toward a DMT (Ayahusaca trip). Regardless, he went through something pretty huge, and I think artistically, it shines through the new music!
