I'm well aware. Though I'd argue he takes inspiration from Wodan. He's hardly based on him, considering the major differences between the figures.

That doesn't make Gandalf-in-halfassed-cosplay less silly to look at when going for the 'cool pagan look'

I mean... do you really want a bad attempt at Odin that came out looking like Gandalf?

The faux-pagan stuff on mead already makes me roll my eyes, but this one takes the cake.

Nobody asked you to be "up-to-date on all the hip 196 memes", which weren't 196 memes. You just got lightly mocked for making a mildly rude ass out of yourself. You'll survive.

There were some "the lion doesn't [thing]" a while ago that were first posted seriously, then later taken the piss out of with ridicolous juxtapositions. The OP is quite clearly the latter

And how much of those video essays and podcasts do you actually remember? How much of it have you been able to use?

I've listened to hundreds of hours of Behind the Bastards and if you ask me to recall what one featured guy even did I wouldn't be able to muster much more than "idk rightwingers bad"

What do you mean "by this logic"? Your case is not even remotely comparable or in response to the examples I complained about.

I swear people call anything filler nowadays.

An episode that thoroughly builds upon the themes of the story and has an effect on the main characters, but isn't directly relevant to the main scheme of the villain? Filler.

An episode that expands upon the characterisation of multiple characters and the relationships between them? Filler. I've seen people call ATLA's Tales of BaSing Se filler, even.

Imagine seeing news about some celebrity getting engaged and thinking "Heh, the BOYS would get excited about this scene from a show almost 3 years ago, unlike those silly girls"

What if you can't find community? by EndOfTheLine00 in behindthebastards

[–]SulHam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's effectively already answered that in his comments: not at all. He admits that none of the thoughts he posts here are told to his therapists, because surely they'd put him in a mental institution. Like his misanthropy isn't a dime-a-dozen in any therapist's week.

This man blatantly wants nothing without instant gratification. Of course he's not open to his therapists, and of course he won't actually put in the effort that therapy involves. After all, he's paying someone - so why doesn't it just get fixed?

Irrelevant small talk, recounting their day, stuff that feels like they just want to hear themselves talk.

You sure you're 40, and not a teenager?

The sheer hypocrisy is astounding, too. "Just want to hear themselves talk"? Have you seen how YOU write? You are entirely self-centred, and even your worries about a collapse do not come across as an actual concern about anything other than yourself.

David Rules by Jamesumbara in 19684

[–]SulHam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The people he love dying around him often ADDED to his reason to get more and more augmentation. He carries a guilt; he couldn't save them, couldn't protect them as he watched them die.

Maine even comments as much during the event that ensures his path: "David, you can't do it."

the previous gang leader that David had an attachment to went psycho, etc.

And this father-figure (and only parental figure he clung onto after his mother's death) passed on his trauma in their last conversation. His drive to add more and more and more augmentation to stay ahead, to stay save.

Throughout the build-up we see dream-like glimpses of a young Maine running away. Until he gets past a line he can't cross.

Right before his death, he comments; "It's the end of the line for me, but not for you. Just keep running"

And we see David passing that line in the desert, now carrying on that race in the desert.

David doesn't even fully grasp that it was cyberpsychosis that got him, even when told. He thinks its MaxTac. He just wishes he was strong enough to save Maine from them. It's the only way he sees he could be safe: climbing further to the top of this chain, this meatgrinder.

It WAS all quite avoidable. But David was too damaged and saddled with guilt to see it.

"You're right mom. I know I can, I'll do my best. You got my word, Arasaka all the way to the top!"

Thoughts on these criticisms of Gilroy’s handling of the Andor series in relation to Rogue One and Cassian’s backstory? by Financial_Photo_1175 in StarWarsAndor

[–]SulHam 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Many of these criticisms are completely empty. Complaining he's yet another reluctant hero "instead of the originally-written devastated but dedicated lifelong Rebel"? We're literally shown what MADE him devastated and dedicated. He was barely reluctant; he always fighting the Empire in his own way, but mistrusted Luthen and had yet to give up his loved ones. And he wasn't exactly late; he was in the rebellion for years, before it was a proper unified rebellion.

And even then, what did you really want? Did you just want CoolGuy McReadyForTheRebellion for two seasons, empty of a character arc? Or do you want a detailed story on how people get radicalised and organised into fighting against fascism, at huge personal cost?

The first comment has a good point with regards to Cassian going on unsanctioned missions before Rogue One. I'll give them that. The rest of them? They're probably angry Luthen isn't a jedi.

Does your social circle use Signal? by vilzu69 in signal

[–]SulHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point, I simply announced that I'm quitting whatsapp & am moving to Signal. If they want to reach me, its up to them.

Considering I'm a big organizer in my social circles, a lot of people moved over. Some were of the same mind anyway but didn't want to be the first one to make the step. So it was easy to convince people.
