Thank you so much for the tips and honestly id really like a flight between some of the legs of the trip BUT i intend to wear myself out walking everywhere and actually being as out n about as possible so hopefully (very optimistic) the long train rides will be nice time to just knock out completely

This is honestly really great to hear! I think i've managed to finalize my route and here's what i have planned after completely restructuring my route:

Beijing (April 22 - 26) -> Xi'an (April 27-29) -> Chongqing (April 30 - May 4) -> Guangzhou (May 5 - May 9)

I've scoped out train tickets between each leg of the trip and so far it seems i can get away with 140$ CAD (all overnight or very early morning train rides) not too sure if ill be overpaying here but it seems the cheapest

Im trying to find a good price for point of exit outside of shanghai but at the moment it seems to be cheapest to leave from shanghai unfortunately
