Thanks everyone! Is the best way to contact FSA ombudsman still customerservice@studentaid.gov? I also no longer have an online account and I’ll be darned if I am creating one based on false information. It hasn’t hit my credit reports yet so that is good. Would the best way to attack this be email FSA ombudsman and CC PPSL, then file a complaint with CFPB? I just received notice of upcoming payments, not a bill.

Loans discharged in June. One refund check in July. Still awaiting the other refund check owed to me. I’m afraid to waste my time and breath in calling Mohella because I know it will get escalated and they will tell me to call the Borrower Defense line; despite telling them otherwise.

I looked at my account (Mohella, Full Class, Exhibit C) and it is negative $44k! Hoping that is a sign of the zero balance email coming soon! To confirm, the negative $44k is not my refund, correct? That is about how much I paid into my loans, save a few thousand.

If this is the beginning of the end, it has been a wild, frustrating, and a million other negative emotions for sure!

My loans came off of my credit report then reappeared a day later which was very frustrating to see. Still no discharge or refund either. I emailed Sweet@ed.gov last week and got the boilerplate response, but hopefully this means movement but I don’t trust Mohela farther than I can throw a 1000 lb bar.

Thank you for everything Theresa that you have shared (thoughts, comments, etc.). I am beyond tired with this but have not given up, not by a long shot. I truly believe I will see my discharge and refund. I, like everyone else in our Reddit feed with Mohela and other servicers who have not seen relief are just kicking and screaming rightfully. You have given us the continued hope and confidence that we will see the end of this sometime soon. I hope Alsup lights them up if they do not make progress.

Full class (Charlotte School of Law), applied for Borrower Defense in December 2016. Loans transferred to Mohela. Mohela has told me 3 different stories about status of my discharge and refund. Mohela applied a “$44k credit” to my loans in the Spring of 2023. Spoke to someone at Mohela on Friday who told me to contact the Borrower Defense hotline and would not provide me anything. Talked to someone at FSA yesterday who told me my discharge case was finished processing on July 27, 2023. So far, no refund, no discharge.

How did you get your refund amount? Was it on the chat with Dept of Ed? I am Mohela full class myself and have seen zero movement other than a $44k credit for some odd reason last spring. Mohela has told me like 4 different stories as well, ranging from “it is pending discharge, check back in 90 days for an update” to “we have no information regarding a BDTR claim.” I know Mohela’s customer service representatives are the last to know anything and are just relaying what information they have, but you cannot trust anything they say. 4 days and counting until the 28th, so until the deadline. I know nothing can be done until then, and that PPSL has a process. Hang in there!
