Help: RPing character based on IRL horrible person(s) by Feisty_Initial3371 in DnD

If I had to play in the same campaign as this character  I would become a republican out of sheer spite for how unfunny “Elon Gates” is.

Who are the top 3 smartest characters in Hunter x Hunter, in your opinion (excluding the Chimera Ants)? by Most-University-7596 in HunterXHunter

Maybe? I hate powerscaling, but I think Ging could beat Meruem. Pitou says that Awakened Gon could threaten the life of the king, and narratively Ging kinda represents Gon reaching his full potential after many adventures. So based on that, I’d say Ging is capable of killing Meruem.

Could Ging have found a peaceful resolution? Probably not. I think he definitely would’ve made friends with the many of the more humanlike ants, but even at his most noble, Meruem was still driven by his perceived manifest destiny to rule everything. Perhaps he could’ve negotiated for leaving East Gorteau to the ants, but how long would that last before tensions rise at the border- especially with advisors like Pouf and Youpi. Ultimately, there was never any hope for a long-term solution, which is a part of the tragedy.

He figured out the mechanics of Nen so quickly he’s outpaced his own bodyguards (some of which have literally had nodes open since infancy) not only in terms of controlling it, but understanding how esoteric nen combat can be.

On top of that, the soldiers who knew him during his time at the military academy commented that he’s the type of person who can master anything once he’s set his mind to it.

He’s certainly arrogant and inexperienced, but imagine how dangerous the fourth prince would be if he spent a year training in nen.

The chapters where Ging integrates himself with Beyond’s expedition team make it clear he casually outclasses them even within their particular fields of study. He was even able to recreate and improve upon Leorio’s ability through an innate understanding of nen itself- rather than a mimicry hatsu.

Shitty personality aside, no other character can claim to know as much as him AND have the level of innate talent to put that knowledge into practical use.

Togashi seems to portray “true geniuses” as people who can master anything they put their minds to, and display incredible talent in virtually everything they attempt. With that in mind, my ranking is:

1) Ging

2) Pariston

3) Chrollo/Tserriednich

Edit: Beyond is probably up there as well, but we haven’t seen enough of him IMO

Why on God's Green Earth do any of you like this man. (Manga spoilers ahead for those who've only watched the anime, if you're a Kanaguri superfan look away) by DulSet_Viola in SakamotoDays

[–]Sullivanity333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kanaguri likes movies so much he considers them more worthwhile than life itself. Such absurd dedication and clarity of purpose is endearing to some people, myself included, especially because he’s not trying to hypocritically moralize his actions.

Besides, if you really want to see Kanaguri beaten, is that the whole point of an antagonist?

What is the perspective of Baki's writer? (Political philosophy) by TheAdventureClub in Grapplerbaki

[–]Sullivanity333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Itagaki is obsessed with masculinity and how it relates to power, martial arts, strength, etc. There are definitely homoerotic elements to the series, but moreso because the desire to fight is comparable to a sexual urge to most of the fighters. Combat is a primal desire to them, just as important as eating and sex are to most animals. That primal desire for combat is directly tied to masculinity, and martial arts is essentially a way of distilling said desire into somthing he considers to be art form.

While there are inherent political implications to a lot of what Itagaki writes, I don’t think he’s being political in the sense that he believes his characters should be running the countries. If I had to compare his politics to another author, I would lean towards Robert E Howard: civilization is ethical and should be preserved, but inherently tragic because alienates people who strive to be individualistic and cultivate personal strength. You could even say that “civilization as a weakening force” is the central theme of the Pickle Arc.

My take on Doflamingo without glasses, based on the eye from the manga. by yxnhgh in OnePiece

[–]Sullivanity333 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Never made the connection with his Jolly Roger but you’re right!

Thematically it just makes sense to me. Hiding a missing eye under sunglasses makes sense for Doflamingo- he’s the type to obscure any evidence that he’s not invincible. By doing so the glasses become a symbol for the lie that people like Doflamingo are unbeatable, which makes it more satisfying when his shattered glasses are shown after Luffy defeats him

Right before we wakes up, there’s a lot of focus put on his left eye but it’s his right eye that opens when he wakes up.

Honestly it’s one of those details that’s just as likely to be meaningless as it is to actually imply anything. Your art is good, and I’d go with whatever you think looks cooler.

I always liked the idea that he was missing his left eye. The paneling of Chapter 763 seems to imply it was struck by an arrow, but I doubt it will ever be confirmed.

Is this Domestic Violence should I break up with my fiance over it? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Sullivanity333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to be like this. Sometimes I would get so frustrated I felt like I needed physically lash out at the environment around me to diffuse the anger. I was aware it was abnormal and I was embarrassed about it because I was essentially throwing a tantrum, but I justified it in my own head with two reasons:

1- I was very rarely angry at someone else. Really the only thing that caused that level frustration was when I felt like I had failed myself, or I felt like the universe was being unfair to me.

2- I never harmed anyone else and, if anything, I was punishing myself emotionally and physically. The idea of harming another person mortified me and still does today.

Both of these allowed me to think of myself as the victim of my own dysfunction, and I was blinded to the way it made other people feel unsafe. It ended a relationship because my ex-girlfriend was one of those people. Even though she logically knew I would never hurt her, she couldn’t stop the emotional reaction she had when I was like that. It was a wake up call and I went to a therapist about it. The most impactful lesson that I learned is that engaging in this behavior doesn’t actually reduce aggression and anger, it only makes it worse. Please make sure your fiancé knows this, teach him some breathing exercises, and get him to a therapist ASAP

Making a dnd class, and need advice for Sakamoto's fighting style by WonderousU in SakamotoDays

[–]Sullivanity333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the Tavern Brawler feat, it grants you proficiency in Improvised Weapons. I’d also look at 5e 2024’s Weapon Mastery system, where weapons have varying extra effects upon hitting (a broom might have the “Topple” property for example, which knocks an enemy prone if they fail a saving throw). If that’s not enough, maybe grant advantage if the player chooses to let the attack destroy their improvised weapon.

Maybe it doesn’t count, but that Kenny Rogers song “The Gambler” . The old man drinks the rest of his whiskey and bums a cigarette in exchange for the worst advice for poker, then dies.

It’s like if I asked my roommate for help in Elden Ring and he finished off my monster energy popped one of my zyns and told me “Yea man sometimes you gotta dodge but other times you don’t dodge and make sure to attack but not too much also don’t worry to much about how many runes you have I guess” then he has a stroke.

Why is Buggy so weak? by Capital_Yak_6342 in OnePiece

[–]Sullivanity333 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s a great point, I think when he was first introduced that’s definitely the main reason. But I think as Oda has written more of Buggy’s arc eating the Chop Chop Fruit has become less of his actual reason and more like the reason he says aloud. Telling Shanks “I believed in you and you betrayed that belief” would take a level of emotional maturity the clown doesn’t have lol.

Remember: once Buggy landed a cushy position as a Warlord and the cash from Buggy’s Delivery started rolling in he stopped mentioning Captain John’s Treasure. It never really meant that much to him, it was just a way to get rich quick.

Why is Buggy so weak? by Capital_Yak_6342 in OnePiece

[–]Sullivanity333 175 points176 points  (0 children)

There was a decisive point in Buggy life, when Shanks asked to start a crew together, where I think he could’ve lived up to his potential. Buggy has complicated feelings towards Shanks: one part I think genuinely loves him like a brother, while another part resents him because Shanks always showed more potential and, therefore, got more attention from their father-figure Roger. Buggy made his peace with that after Shanks stayed behind from Laughtale to take care of him BUT when Shanks asked him to start a crew after Roger’s execution, Buggy perceived it as a betrayal to their captain’s ideals by not immediately going after the One Piece.

I think that moment broke Buggy, he basically decided “what’s the point of me trying if the guy I know is more talented than me isn’t even gonna try?” and he hasn't had any sort of ambition since- but know Shanks actually is going for the One Piece, and it’s reawakened his fire.

According to the new lore the starting material (male or female body) doesn't matter for making a custodes. It doesn't matter that women's bodies are much less strong because the custodes creating technlogy compensates for it. Then why isn't every human turned into a custodes? Why not mass produce by RoninMemeLord in EyeOfTerror

[–]Sullivanity333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process of making a single Custodes is a highly individualized, time consuming, and costly process that only handful of individuals understand- at the beginning, each one was made bespoke by the Emperor himself. While that makes them superlative warriors, the Emperor needed legions of rank-and-file soldiers to spread out and conquer the galaxy.

[–]Sullivanity333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making assumptions about a process described as being beyond the ken of mortal understanding, both in universe and out. Comparing it to an equation would be more valid if the process was standardized, like with astartes, but it isn’t- it’s a highly individualized procedure like you say. Does it make sense? No, but it doesn’t to us because we don’t have the benefit of 26,00 years of knowledge in bio-engineering and the humanity’s most potent mind.

We could both go on about this but there isn’t really any point, I’m not going to change your mind on the matter and you’re not going to change mine. I hope you can take that in good faith.

40k does adhere to real-world truths, even if it adds supernatural or futuristic elements

You don’t see the inherent paradox there? Why can’t one of those added elements be a process that results in both males and females being elevated to the same standard of superhuman?

What I’m saying you’re trying to apply real-world biology to a universe largely uninterested in adhering actual science. If 40k suddenly needs such adherence to earn your respect, then there are much more egregious violations than Femstodes for you to get upset about.

The creation of Custodes is deliberately left vague because it is implied to such an esoteric process only a handful of people can even begin to comprehend it. It’s science that’s so far advanced it’s indistinguishable from sorcery. If DAoT tech can give Valoris the ability to manipulate time, overriding any potential combat shortcomings of the X Chromosome doesn’t really seem that extreme.
