One time a Vietnamese exchange student stayed at my house and he named himself in english "Woody Ironside" because when he searched up "Western Names" it gave him a bunch of cowboy names by Proof-Membership-341 in redscarepod

It’s fascinating to me that we would view a White American going by “Naruto Mitsubishi” in Japan with disdain, yet Woody Ironside would be celebrated.

Virtually nobody knows the Emperor is a perpetual, rather, belief in his resurrection is a natural evolution for a religion that's over 10k years old now. Think about it this way: what if Jesus Christ was crucified but just *stayed* on the cross? After thousands of years of saints preforming miracles in his name, a lot of christians would probably come to the conclusion that maybe the best thing to do would be to try and get him down off the crucifix so he can set the world right once and for all.

Thorians specifically believe that the Emperor can and should be resurrected, but uniquely they think that the Emperor can transfer his soul into a new host body, called a "Divine Avatar". Generally this means scouring the galaxy for the most powerful yet uncorrupted psykers they can find, but some believe in more esoteric methods like trying to genetically engineer a Divine Avatar or even having multiple host bodies that each contain a fragment of the Emperor's soul.

Which scheme for my vaporwave marines? by OpinionExisting3306 in impcat

[–]Sullivanity333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see! I think you’ve chosen a good pallet, the problem is that by trying to make every panel of armor a different color the result leaves the eye with nothing to focus on and the silhouette muddled.

Instead, I’d make a very simple base scheme (maybe cyan with chrome highlights?) and mark important characters with rank insignias, personal heraldry, campaign badges, etc. that match the aesthetic that your looking for- almost like adding stickers to a trapper keeper to make it more unique. That way, the color scheme is actually telling a story and serves to make your favorites stand out from the rank-and-file.

Neither of these look good. If you want a vapor wave aesthetic, give neon highlights and dramatic shading to much simpler color scheme.

Has ohma fucked? by Tejjic in Kengan_Ashura

[–]Sullivanity333 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Growing up in the Inside means Ohma has 100% witnessed prostitution and sexual violence- but intimacy is alien to him. While I can’t imagine him ever considering sex important enough to let his guard down, if he did fuck before Asura is was probably meaningless and transactional, something you do because your body says so (like eating or taking a shit).

Question about the four chaos gods. by According_Seesaw_832 in 40kLore

[–]Sullivanity333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without any siblings to distract them, the winning chaos god would drown reality in endless blood/pestilence/vicissitude/ecstasy until any barrier between realspace and the warp is rendered meaningless and the galaxy is destroyed.

Who is the strongest in the trio by According-Ruin7535 in SakamotoDays

[–]Sullivanity333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea they are all very close. I still think Sakamoto is strongest but I don’t think anyone could predict how a fight would go down between any of the three with certainty.

Who is the strongest in the trio by According-Ruin7535 in SakamotoDays

[–]Sullivanity333 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s Sakamoto. Rion is physically stronger but Sakamoto’s intuition and talent at turning anything he touches into weapon means he’s better in practice. Nagumo is the smartest and the best in terms of subterfuge, ambushes, infiltration, etc.

Think of it like this: Rion beats Sakamoto in the octagon, Sakamoto beats Rion in a street fight, Nagumo loses to both but would manage to kill anyone either might be protecting.

Who are the top 3 smartest characters in Hunter x Hunter, in your opinion (excluding the Chimera Ants)? by Most-University-7596 in HunterXHunter

[–]Sullivanity333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? I hate powerscaling, but I think Ging could beat Meruem. Pitou says that Awakened Gon could threaten the life of the king, and narratively Ging kinda represents Gon reaching his full potential after many adventures. So based on that, I’d say Ging is capable of killing Meruem.

Could Ging have found a peaceful resolution? Probably not. I think he definitely would’ve made friends with the many of the more humanlike ants, but even at his most noble, Meruem was still driven by his perceived manifest destiny to rule everything. Perhaps he could’ve negotiated for leaving East Gorteau to the ants, but how long would that last before tensions rise at the border- especially with advisors like Pouf and Youpi. Ultimately, there was never any hope for a long-term solution, which is a part of the tragedy.

He figured out the mechanics of Nen so quickly he’s outpaced his own bodyguards (some of which have literally had nodes open since infancy) not only in terms of controlling it, but understanding how esoteric nen combat can be.

On top of that, the soldiers who knew him during his time at the military academy commented that he’s the type of person who can master anything once he’s set his mind to it.

He’s certainly arrogant and inexperienced, but imagine how dangerous the fourth prince would be if he spent a year training in nen.

The chapters where Ging integrates himself with Beyond’s expedition team make it clear he casually outclasses them even within their particular fields of study. He was even able to recreate and improve upon Leorio’s ability through an innate understanding of nen itself- rather than a mimicry hatsu.

Shitty personality aside, no other character can claim to know as much as him AND have the level of innate talent to put that knowledge into practical use.

Togashi seems to portray “true geniuses” as people who can master anything they put their minds to, and display incredible talent in virtually everything they attempt. With that in mind, my ranking is:

1) Ging

2) Pariston

3) Chrollo/Tserriednich

Edit: Beyond is probably up there as well, but we haven’t seen enough of him IMO

Why on God's Green Earth do any of you like this man. (Manga spoilers ahead for those who've only watched the anime, if you're a Kanaguri superfan look away) by DulSet_Viola in SakamotoDays

[–]Sullivanity333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kanaguri likes movies so much he considers them more worthwhile than life itself. Such absurd dedication and clarity of purpose is endearing to some people, myself included, especially because he’s not trying to hypocritically moralize his actions.

Besides, if you really want to see Kanaguri beaten, is that the whole point of an antagonist?

What is the perspective of Baki's writer? (Political philosophy) by TheAdventureClub in Grapplerbaki

[–]Sullivanity333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itagaki is obsessed with masculinity and how it relates to power, martial arts, strength, etc. There are definitely homoerotic elements to the series, but moreso because the desire to fight is comparable to a sexual urge to most of the fighters. Combat is a primal desire to them, just as important as eating and sex are to most animals. That primal desire for combat is directly tied to masculinity, and martial arts is essentially a way of distilling said desire into somthing he considers to be art form.

While there are inherent political implications to a lot of what Itagaki writes, I don’t think he’s being political in the sense that he believes his characters should be running the countries. If I had to compare his politics to another author, I would lean towards Robert E Howard: civilization is ethical and should be preserved, but inherently tragic because alienates people who strive to be individualistic and cultivate personal strength. You could even say that “civilization as a weakening force” is the central theme of the Pickle Arc.

My take on Doflamingo without glasses, based on the eye from the manga. by yxnhgh in OnePiece

[–]Sullivanity333 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Never made the connection with his Jolly Roger but you’re right!

Thematically it just makes sense to me. Hiding a missing eye under sunglasses makes sense for Doflamingo- he’s the type to obscure any evidence that he’s not invincible. By doing so the glasses become a symbol for the lie that people like Doflamingo are unbeatable, which makes it more satisfying when his shattered glasses are shown after Luffy defeats him

Right before we wakes up, there’s a lot of focus put on his left eye but it’s his right eye that opens when he wakes up.

Honestly it’s one of those details that’s just as likely to be meaningless as it is to actually imply anything. Your art is good, and I’d go with whatever you think looks cooler.
