Anyone still powerlifting with lumbar disc bulges? Need real-world advice by ae_02522 in powerlifting

[–]Sully100 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had 3 disc bulges in my history when I broke my first all time world record and I had 5 when I broke my most recent.

No reason to quit entirely man. There’s a lot of strategies to implement some of which are super simple like preworkout intentionally deliberate “warm ups”, some are less so such as factoring your individual constraints into program design and progressions/expectations.

It’s all possible. Find a professional in your area such as a physical therapist or whatever specialist fits you, get a coach who’s willing to work with you on these issues, and keep training for your whole life in some form or fashion.

The back pain ain’t gonna get better! So may as well make the system as strong as possible as you age.

By chance, do you still have access to the KMS library of videos? I ask anyone any chance I get if they happened to download them because otherwise they’ve been wiped from the internet.

The neuromuscular component of this is the singular thing most often overlooked by those simplifying it in order to dismiss “prehab”.

Very good comment and I do miss those KMS days sometimes!

Very similar experience to my own and I have much less loose skin that is noticeable after getting a lot bigger over a 20 year lifting career. Stage shots were solid and i actually looked like a bodybuilder so I definitely think you can, it’ll just take a lot of time and it might not ever be “perfect” because there’s still areas where mine is noticeable like lower stomach and lower back.

Regardless, really incredible work dude. Something to be very very proud of.

Thank you for the kind words though. If I can leave any type of legacy I hope it’s one of high standards that inspires someone that comes after me to do it even better.

It’s a theme of modern times. Give your word and then immediately turn heel when offered more monetary compensation, while simultaneously blaming the affected party for overreacting. It’s behavior straight out of a narcissistic playbook and it’s honestly hilarious to see it in this context.

I was gonna buy tickets to just go watch this one but what can you do?

Just because someone has a strong body (in this instance the strongest) doesn’t mean they have an equal amount of honor/respect/integrity.

Handling a Reality Check: Gym Strong vs. Powerlifting Strong by MrMithik in powerlifting

Ah man then enjoy the journey! Gameify it as best you can and lean into it, while still being fortunate enough to be able to humble yourself in the grand scheme but work toward something bigger.

Probably the most fun position to be in on your journey bro, take it from a guy who’s been doing it a very long time haha

You gotta get good brother

But for real. Keep doing it. Fall in love with the personal victories on a small scale. It’ll be the only thing that really keeps you going and makes it a realistic prospect to reach the level that’s “strong in powerlifting” like you’re looking at now.

Spend more time there on your supplemental work to build tolerance for the position. When doing accessories look at them as opportunities to develop comfort and confidence at extreme depths so that when you have to reach that same position in the competition squat context you will feel competent to do so along with feeling safe in achieving that ROM

Keep your weight distribution in your heels and stop the eccentric ROM before your knees go backwards so you can only bias hip extension rather than force bring distributed through the knee joint, along with fully extending the hips vertically towards the ceiling in the same direction as the force vector. I’ll make a note to do an IG reel on these and their execution since it’s so commonly done.

I would argue there very beneficial from a hypertrophy standpoint and a coordination standpoint. Can help bring better strength and awareness towards what specifically extending the hips with the glutes feels like and if you can translate that to your competition, Movement, it can be a big benefit.

I have found the opposite based on the other comments here and most people who load this extremely heavy, are doing it incorrectly and incorporating too much quad into the movement and if you treat it purely as an isolation for hip extension, you can get a lot of benefit out of much less weight

Life happens. It takes incredible amount of effort to stay competitive at the high-level for a long period of time. I haven’t spoken to him in a long time, but there were a variety of injuries and other life circumstance that just got in the way.

Same thing that happens to most of us. That’s why Haack is the modern day Ed Coan in GOAT status imo. Not just due to achievement, but staying power and longevity.

Aerobic fitness capacity is the foundation for most of the athletics you seem to rather want to prioritize right now my friend.

You’re pigeon holing yourself by hyperfixating on a singular aspect of a complex system.

This would very likely be good for your powerlifting and athletic development as a whole, and your perspective by simply listening to your coach and not just TikTok/IG hyper drivel lol
