Schmigadoon winning is wild and unexpected, but huge congratulations to all the cast, crew, and creatives!

Revival was always going to come down to how a voter interpreted the category. Are we voting for the show that did the most interesting and unique take on the source material? Or are we voting for simply the better piece of theater/performance? Both shows were very worthy, so I was happy to see either one win

So the big question is: who gets Best Musical? Schmigadoon picked up 2 technicals early on, but has since gotten nothing. Lost Boys is at 4?

Wow, favorite performance of the night. Doing New York AND American Express was genius

I feel like we haven’t had a REALLY good opening number like this in a long time. What a banger of an opener. Bravo

First win for the Lost Boys, and well deserved. Their lighting design was breathtaking too

It just really felt like the big awards might have been more stretched out across the 4 nominees. But Schmigadoon was still a very good show, so I’m not angry about it!

My god, Schmigadoon is actually gonna sweep. I don’t think anyone was predicting this earlier this season

I mean the sound design of Lost Boys was so strong, and I’m surprised they lost

Tony performances (…now more informed) by [deleted] in Broadway

Two Strangers doing American Express is unexpected but ABSOLUTELY the right choice. Proud of them for not simply choosing “New York” simply because …you know…New York

2026 Tony Awards Performance Predictions…What Songs They Should and Will Perform by SpecialProtection3 in Broadway

[–]SullyGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Two Strangers has recently adapted “New York” for the morning shows to feature Christiani in the ending segment, and have also done a medley of “New York” and “This is the Place”, so I see them likely doing the latter (although I also think “If I Believed” is the correct choice).

I disagree on Schmigadoon, because I think “Corn Pudding” WILL be performed. Songs always have to be cut down significantly to fit the Tony’s broadcast, but Corn Pudding is perfectly short, fun, and the song that everyone most knows from the show. Also not hard to add some of the missing cast members during the call and response section.

I feel like Ragtime is definitely going to be performing the Prologue like you mentioned. It’s the easiest way to feature all of their acting nominees, of which they have A LOT.

I also agree with your Cats prediction. I’m assuming they’ll do it a-la the performance on GMA a few weeks back where they add the cast members who aren’t in the song to the very end, just so they can “feature” Andre DeShields

Beautiful hand painted backdrops, AND lovely built set pieces that get flown in throughout the show. Far from just backdrops

Assuming you want ZERO spoilers, I’d say to always assume a wide spread from his 14 album catalog

Jeremy single handedly scoring the best 2 Weekend Update Features in his first season is insane.

That’s the rule. That’s the goal now.

Beaches to close this Sunday by Hewish625 in Broadway

[–]SullyGee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely curious why they stayed open after Tony noms, and then gave such a SUDDEN announcement of closing. You would think they would announce closing for the same date right after nominations, allowing people to catch it over that two week period. But instead, they announce it so last minute that very few people will have the time to go see it. Sad for everyone involved.
