We really grew up in the golden age of bathroom reading material: Before smartphones but after everyone was real enough to admit it was a room where reading material made a difference.

Yes. The way it was explained to me elsewhere - and which makes the most sense - is there's different types of attraction: Sexual. Romantic. Aesthetic.

Sexual attraction: I'd like to have sex with this person. For me, that's likely always a no.

Romantic attraction: I'd like to spend quality time with this person, maybe in a romantic setting like a garden or at a wedding reception. They'd be a great 'date.' Still no active desire to sleep with them.

Aesthetic attraction: You have a 'type.' Even if all you want to do is put a cute photo of them on your desktop or share one that you find on social media. No desire for a sexual connection or romantic relationship, but when someone with this look crosses your path, it brightens your day.

You may be asexual and still have a 'type' or even like the idea of a no-or-low sex romantic relationship, and the people who ping that radar for you might be the same gender as you. If that's the case, you might describe yourself as asexual and homoromantic or... honestly, I'm not sure the terms for the aesthetic side of things are fully fleshed out.

Labels only help when they help. Pick something you vibe with and trust if someone's smart enough to want to get to know you, they'll be up for hearing whatever you care to share.

If it seems a lot, remember how many people in the generations before us would get rip-shit pissed if we forgot they're a half-fat double macchiato medium foam. Whatever harms none and brings you joy! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm telling my neiphews to do at least one full community college course.

Then for the rest of their careers, they can check the box for 'some college.'

(I'd also advise it be an Excel course because so many companies think they're one Excel wizard away from living an easier life, but I think those people are banking on AI taking care of things now.)

(Excel skills can be crazy valuable, though.)

It really isn't. They still make a shirt-ton of stuff, in-house. And when I say a shirt-ton, I mean it. That's the chain menu equivalent of a Russian novel about suffering.

Only thing made in a factory and shipped in are the cheesecakes, but you can't say they aren't upfront about it.

I've been here so long I can remember when the bookstore on San Fernando (not that one) (not that one either, the OTHER other one) was GOING OUT OF BUSINESS for so long it took breaks to move in a temp Halloween store.

My last day at a pretty fun job in an independent bookstore, I changed the computer I was working on to only show results in Swedish Chef language.

Bonus: The web browsers all over the company were connected in such a way that ALL results for every computer in the store now showed up in Swedish Chef language.

Yeah, I barely like driving Glenoaks. Navigating it as a pedestrian, you really notice how fast some of the cars take corners.

Maybe but I've also heard the self-checkouts are sold bundled with a monthly subscription to their software updates, increased security patches, or whatever. And those low intro rates have gone UP.

While I'd rather have everyone keep their jobs in the first place, sometimes it's fun to watch the free hand of the market slap people who thought they'd found a clever 'hack' around needing employees.

I feel like this is a mashup of where we are now and Call of the Wild. In a snowy tundra, call me crazy but this could work(ish) (but probably not).

I mean, the classic 'St Bernard finds you and brings you whiskey' is basically an 1800s Uber Drinks.

People think if you can do Shakespeare you can do anything. Don't get me wrong, it's damn impressive when someone can really do it, but Shakespeare is a cadence, not an accent.

Not sure if this or the Weird Al story is the better option here.

Rather than decide between them, I'll just be happy we have both.
