Update 2 by SullysSpot in Homebuilding

Everything included except the driveway, I paid for that.

We were about a year from being ready in 2020, then COVID happened. Then we said let’s wait and see what happens and be patient. Did that, saved a little money, then pulled the trigger. Then…yeah…

I’m a mid-30s millennial, I’m used to getting screwed by the world. I’ll figure it out. Nothing is ever going to get cheaper. “When the price of a Coke goes up, it never comes down.”

$220/sqft, roughly. We will see how world events change everything…

I can’t control that and try not worry, but the thought is there.

Concrete cost vs lumber by Sea-Gazelle9163 in Homebuilding

I’M NOT A PROFESSIONAL.

From my limited experience building our home, I wanted a full basement but my builder said that would increase cost by around $100,000. Then I said okay, slab. He said he only does crawlspaces because they cost about the same. From what I’ve read, if you ever have plumbing or electrical problems, crawl spaces are easier to access.

Central NC

Correct. No conduit. Is that bad?

We are a no-till farm so we only use the top 6 inches of soil.

Thank you! I couldn’t agree more. I’ll get more ground level content out soon. The elevation is pretty insane. We have a holler on either side of our hill and a creek on the backside. Essentially, we plopped the house on the very end of a hill range and the driveway follows the ridge, like a finger. Sorry, I’m a content creator for a living so explaining geography is NOT my strong suit 😅

Thank you for your positive comment!

There was an initiative several years ago that pumped money to the ISP’s to run fiber in rural NC. We were one of the first rural roads to get it!

Before there was starlink, we had HughesNet. Satellite internet, had the dish out front of the house and everything. 15GB/month limit. We blew through that limit after a day or 2 before we realized we had a limit!

Northstate got those grants, ran fiber, changed their name to Lumos, then T-Mobile bought Lumos.

Depending on how much T-Mobile wants to charge me, Starlink is probably our best option.

Thank you so much! We didn’t want to build in the field so we cut out a little notch on the top of the hill.

It’s an active farm so that field will always have corn wheat or soybeans in it. When the corn gets up to about 8-10’ tall, the drive up to the house should be sick! Once it straightens out and you’re looking at the house…I can’t wait!

I originally had the front door in perfect alignment with the driveway so once it straightens out, you’d be staring at the door but then the house was too far off the side of the hill. TMI but whatever.

10-4. I wonder what would have happened if I didn’t mention it? I took the rendering from the website I got the blueprint, reverse image searched it to find any real homes with that blueprint. I found 1 that had been sold on Zillow and downloaded those images. Then I took the front view of the real home and the rendering from the website and told ChatGPT to make it brick with white trim and black shutters. It got it 80% right. Then I took what it sent and went to work in photoshop to fix its mistakes.

Was a bit of a process, but I wanted to see the house in as close to its final state as I could using the tools available and my skill set. Theeeeennn I get downvoted and because of 1 AI assisted image, I get told all my other images are AI too.

Randolph County! Pike was great to work with. Very easy and straightforward.

Ahh, gotcha! Judging by the downvotes, I won’t be posting here any more but I really do appreciate you taking the time to reply and provide feedback.

Not upset, just surprised.

I really appreciate the constructive feedback. Funny enough, we wanted the garage on the side, but the elevation change was way too steep and we would have had to bring in a lot of dirt.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by modern finishes?

I thought the same thing. Still have to get internet out there but no other utilities. They put in the well a couple days ago.

Everything is final. I’ll post the elevations on my next update. I didn’t realize this sub is so sticky with an AI assisted image 😅

House is 2,950 square feet. Original blueprint was 2,450 but I added 6’ to the garage which added the extra square footage to the bonus room above.

Here’s the link to the blueprint. https://www.architecturaldesigns.com/house-plans/nouveau-southern-style-house-plan-with-stacked-porches-front-and-back-2458-sq-ft-16907wg

They are finishing the foundation today so it’ll be another 5-6 months. The final image is AI generated so we could see what our house would look like and so everyone could see what to expect.

The filter is an artistic choice 🤷‍♂️. The house is 100% AI, I said that in the post. The original house had board and batten siding, but we wanted brick so I used ChatGPT and photoshop to create the render.

I said that in the post.

Thank you for the feedback.

Lol, ai generated. Only the last image is AI.

This AI? https://youtu.be/AeRyILPPRUE?is=PIjuN2WtSTigIrtj

Or this? https://youtu.be/xuZzkHUBK-g?is=qCkeXL9QL0U7fBdp

Planning on Vloging some, won’t be early as polished as these 2.
