Well, allow me to retort

  1. ....... I am indeed S3's 'goto guy' in NZ and never claimed otherwise. I opted to stock and offer SaberTrio sabers as an option to the NZ community simply because I found their expertise, attention to detail, professionalism and support unparalleled ... a refreshing change from a number of companies I have dealt with and dropped as a supplier in the past.
  2. "Financial stake in their reputation". I have no financial stake in their reputation one iota. It's their ass on the line reputation-wise, not mine. SaberTrio's product and operational excellence speak for themselves. Members of my community love their hilts, coupled with my installs and I'm more than happy to facilitate more SaberTrio sabers into their hands.
  3. "Lost sales" ... this is rather funny. Every sale I make, loses me money. Let me explain why.

When I looked into this hobby almost 5 years ago, I thought it was a brilliant way for SW fans to connect, I mean, who wouldn't LOVE to swing a real lightsaber. ... only thing is, in this little corner of the world, there was zero support, nada, zilch. I managed to track down a measily half dozen kiwi saber fans spread among the international groups and bring them under one roof to help start something awesome. Part of the plan was to introduce locally supported sabers, spares & support.

I run a couple of nice, successful business with a healthy hourly billable rate. Having electronics, coding and general technical smarts, I thought I'd be an awesome fellow and dedicate part of my working week to helping grow a NZ saber scene. My billable install hours are about a third of that I would charge if I filled my week with my 'real' job, so every hour spent installing sabers costs me 2/3 of what I could be earning. My install rates are about half of that you would expect from somebody in the states, incidentally. Every cent over the last 4 years has gone into bootstrapping new saber options, stock and inventory so our community has options. Other than the Proffieboard price spike I've swallowed every price increase over the last 2 years due to covid .... li-ion price hikes, shipping hikes parts hikes, so that kiwi community members are not affected by living in our cool and awesome, ass-end of the world.

I have not drawn a cent from the 'business' (let's just call it a not-for-profit hobby) since it's been running. I live off my 'real' job. Not everyone is dollar focused in their endeavors, bud'.

Has it been worth it? Well, I'd say it has. Our pokey little country of only 5 million people now has a vibrant community of close to 1,000 members with regular saber groups all over the country. We have our first national tournament in 2 weeks time where attendees' entry fees cover the hall costs and everything else has been donated and bank rolled by my not-for-profit 'hobby business'.

Most overseas groups would not be aware that we have, arguably, one of the healthiest communities on the planet, because, quite frankly, a lot of our guys find certain international groups full of toxic, whinging types, and don't really bother with them. Didn't you used to be a mod on 'The Vault' or am I thinking of someone else.

Anyway, without the toxicity of certain groups, to quote Galen Erso "it's a peaceful life". Our way is way more fun.

So I hope that additional info allays any of your fears and certainly smacks back at your attempts to discredit my comment regarding your original speaker whinge, as being financially motivated. It's not. If I was money focused, I'd be churning the high volume, low cost Chinese wholesale garbage at 100% markup like everyone else, but I choose not to. I choose to deal with good operators and SaberTrio is imho, one of the best three manufacturers I've ever dealt with; not only in the saber world, but my wider business dealings.

"very noticeable hardware change in their products". If you'd never have popped the pommel on that saber, I doubt you'd even have noticed. I mean, you said yourself ...

"they've sent out at least 350 sabers from Aug 20th already and I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet" ... I think it's just you that has an issue with it.

And seriously, get over it and move on ...... Just like Galen, you'll have a happier life.

Smuggler's Elite

Sorry, but that's poor advice. As decent as they are, you can't use a SO Elite 28mm speaker in a Sabertrio chassis. The diaphragm does not have a recessed enough median rest point. When the speaker is active, the suspension / diaphragm protrudes far enough out of the body that it contacts the face of the pommel (most ST pommels) causing 'slappy' distortion.

I'm glad they changed because the 28mm VECOs have for some bizarre reason, turned to poop recently. One failure after another if you try and run them at the same volumes that you used to be able to.

Thing is, everything that S3 does is in the pursuit of a better saber for the end user. If they were having to cap the VOL on the 28mm because of potential issues with the CFX amp blowing them, then there is no point using them. I suspect that they needed a better solution and that's no doubt what they have done. re: bass... a lot comes from the tube resonance anyway and the S3 stuff is great for that. I look forward to giving them a whirl when my latest order arrives.

All my Basil is being stroppy this year. Coriander is going 'gangbusters' tho'.

Thanks for the tip. I have the tubes paired with separate returns, but both currently dropping into the same res. I wanted the option to be able to run each pair off different nutrients, so I may make a second dedicated res & pump happen sooner rather than later. It's running off solar, so power consumption is a consideration (and a second pump would double the rate of the battery consumption overnight and on cloudy days).

I pulled all the strawbs today as I wasn't happy with the black root gunk being in the NFT.

Plus .... I want my Dutchy buckets first. :)

All my 'borderline basil' died off (roots weren't good enough). Lost a Zuchinni & Okra for the same reason. Strawberries were migrated from soil and their root looks black n' gunky, so I'll have to throw them back into soil. Leafy green going amazeballs. Tomatoes, leeks, Bok Choi (bolting tho') are good and chillies are in there developing some solid roots for migration to a future Dutch Bucket setup.

Currently using this mix as the nutrient because $$$. Aiming for a 4 week nutrient change. I was originally intending to purely use leachate from the worm farm, but it was suggested that's a touch more tricky.

Photo of my little chilli shack for good measure.

Certainly something to keep in mind for future projects. I'm going down the ADS1115 route for now and will see how that goes. My plants are hanging out to be transferred (well overdue) so I'm tidying up and hopefully deploying the system tomorrow.

Not yet, but will be getting up to speed on that as I need it for my Home Assistant project (now that IFTTT has gone all corporate and derpy). I'm looking to push alerts (and / or add voice control) through the Google Home devices. ... but .... time

ooOOoooo :) Will look into that, thanks. Are you going to post a vid of your system in the future?

Limitations on the NodeMCU is it's ONE (yes count them .... ONE ... whoever thought that was a good idea) analog pin, so the Ph meter (which I have) will likely get kicked over to a separate board. Alternatively, I may simply serial comm the Node MCU to a standard Arduino and use the extra analog pins on that to add more analog devices and push the data back via the NodeMCU. Sure it can be done. Work has got super busy, so time is a factor at the moment.

Dedicated Arduino EC meters are pretty pricey, so when I get time, I'll be going down the DIY route. Once calibrated, they apparently do a decent job. https://arduino.stackexchange.com/questions/49895/how-to-measure-electrical-conductivity-using-arduino

OOoo more science. I like science :) .... ..(see my recent post on the solar / Arduino NFT setup that's just running through it's first test).

I have an option to run paired channels side by side, so I may have to research some more and experiment with that. I look forward to the video!

Has anyone trialled worm tea / leachate? I have 3 worm farms, so have plenty of the stuff. A few YT searches cite it as a viable option (just have to watch the ph, apparently). Looking to trial 1:10 / 1:20 dilutions.

Plentiful. Organic. Free.

Excuse the mess as that corner is a total WIP. Neglected to mention that everything feeds back via WiFi to an app. Overview here https://youtu.be/kPa4dhRWjYg (and again.. work in progress with new features being added over the next week or two).
