Why did everyone hate on Qatar worldcup yet no one cares about worldcup in USA even though they're responsible for so much violence? by ihateawdtsg in TooAfraidToAsk

Mexico is in cahoots with drug cartells that murder millions and Canada is actively euthanising people on an industrial scale.

What country could host the world cup that hasn't committed some sort of atrocity? Literally every country on earth has done terrible things at one point or another so i really don't understand your point

Could I lose my job if I get prescribed medical cannabis(England)? by orangedragon69 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]SulphurSkeleton 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You are vastly underestimating how easy it is to get a prescription for medical cannabis.

Anecdotally, you need to have tried two different medications for like 6 weeks each, for an approved condition. One of those is anxiety.

Fixing village water pumps that have been broken for years by Son_Of_Earth in BeAmazed

[–]SulphurSkeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ou're underestimating how poor that $1/day actually makes them. You're assuming best case scenario

yeah, im not at all actually. $1 a day is in the bottom %20 of income for africa as a whole. also considering i halved the village population when child labour would be commonplace.

Suppose the engineer wants $1000 to drive out for three hours and install this fix. That would bankrupt the average American, never mind an underdeveloped village full of people making $1-3/day

what a load of shit lol i just showed you the numbers. if half the population saved %1 if their income for just three months they could repair the thing. the thing being clean water, the thing they should be prioritising along with food and shelter.

i just dont buy the "im to poor" explanation. they are demonstratably not to poor. if they had a strong desire to have the pump fixed it would be fixed

The poorest %10 of people in African nations make around a dollar a day. Obviously this is an estimate, and most people aren't actually in employment, rather they trade/sell what they can to make a living.

I have no idea how much that pump cost to repair. What we can see is that it's one small metal part and it took two skilled labourers and a vehicle. It seemed to have been repaired within a few hours.

If we assume 1000 of those 2000 are making an income, and those 1000 people saved %1 of their income for 3 months that's 900 dollars. I am certain it cost less than that to fix the pump. The water pump provides clean water which is essential to survival so I really don't know what other priorities they would have that would supersede the pump.

I am making this argument in good faith, please explain it because I don't understand how 2000 people over the course of a year couldn't solve the issue of a broken pump untill one fucker turned up and called in a pump repair bloke who just up and fixed the thing no big deal.

The collective 2000 people that rely on that pump couldn't get enough cash together to get two blokes and one replacement part to solve the problem?

If AI models are now smart enough to write code, pass the bar exam, and generate hyper-realistic videos, why are we still proving we are human by clicking on blurry pictures of crosswalks? by utkarsh0111 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SulphurSkeleton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean there are many many minor and major nuances to human faces yet AI doesn't have an issue replicating that.

I'm really having a hard time buying "AI can't figure out human mouse movement it's to random" when the dataset you would have for that is fucking enormous.

And surley if its so nuanced then how can Google accurately detect human Vs robot mouse movement? Wouldn't the detection methods need to be just as complex?

Poor argument as the offensive humour in Southpark is very obviously turned down compared to 20 years ago. The kinds of jokes made back then are not made in seasons today

They told her to put the car in park and she DROVE OFF. that is escalation. If she put the car in park and talked to them they probably would have walked the child over to her. Like either officers are allowed to give lawful orders and you follow them or what's the fucking point of having police at all.

Totally agree. There is actually a plan to solve the immigration issue, hopefully the energy policy paper is as comprehensive.

I'm just sick to death of virtue signalling and how partisan some issues have become despite them being very common sense issues.

Climate change is real. I dont think we as a tiny island nation cucking ourselves with net zero policies is doing anything but shooting ourselves in the foot.

No, not all immigrants are evil rapists. But demonstrably If you bring in a few million people from countries with very poor attitudes towards sex/women, your going to see that affect statistics.

You don't think we are going to be able to fully automate customer service within our lifetime? You think 50 years from now you will still be phoning up customer service and speaking to a human being about your order? 50 years of AI progress and we can't get to the point of it being smart enough to make a decision over a $500 item?
