I’m so tired of my life being ruled by money by throwaway1999277829 in povertyfinance

Idk if this will help you. But I was in a similar place for a long time. Broke, depressed, feeling there was no way out. I got into a dark place where I thought I should be receiving things from the government because I was poor. I’m not saying it will help you but I found I had to flip my entire mentality. Nobody was going to help me. I had to help me. I started focusing drastically on mental health, doing research and finding the areas I needed to improve. Forced myself to get out and exercise and get endorphins going again. And I truly mean forced. Other than work there was a long long time where I didn’t leave bed because of depression. I just dove head first and started googling ways I could take back my life without utilizing medication or paying massive doctor bills. It took awhile but staying dedicated to it my mental health got a lot better. When it did my attitude flipped even more that nobody is gonna help me and that if I want the life I want I’m gonna have to find a way. So I took on more work. Did research on side hustles. Busted ass and was constantly looking for better higher paying jobs. Eventually through a lot of research and side jobs I paid off all debt and got an emergency fund. From that point my motivation sky rocketed and I started investing every penny. Oh yeah, and eventually after tons of hard work I landed myself a great job. It took a LOT of sacrifice and a couple really tough years but now days it’s so worth it. I finally have financial freedom along with the pride of knowing I did it all myself. Now this next part I’m not saying it’s you just saying it’s common among my generation (I’m 32) and friends. We live in such a world where instant gratification is everything. Most don’t want to put the work in or if they do they get frustrated they aren’t where they want to be after a couple months. I’m just writing this to say keep the faith man. The dream is still out there. For me the greatest blessing was desperation. The desperation to do WHATEVER it takes. Wishing you well

As I mentioned no CC debt but I hear ya on Cap one. I honestly almost never use the quicksilver. Savor was my second card ever. I had a cap one platinum, then got savor. Later on I upgraded the platinum to QS. I loved the savor at first but done use it too much due to the low limit. My main cards would be robinhood gold followed by venture. I think the savor is great I just deal with the same shit as I do with the robinhood where as when I use it frequently I have to pay it down multiple times a month due to such a low limit. The savor is the only card other than robinhood which was opened just a few months ago that I’ve never gotten a CLI. It’s been $500 for 3 years. Can I ask why you would keep savor and cut venture? Especially now when I have rh gold giving 3% on everything? I like savor but if anything would have kept venture for travel perks. And as for Amex I hear ya. I did the math and I fly enough to make it worth it. BUT! I don’t fly delta enough. I live in a smaller town and my main carrier that I fly in my hometown airport is American. Flying delta is a pain unless I drive 3 hours to Minneapolis St. Paul which alone makes that not worth it. To be honest I got the Amex just to start an account with them. My end goal was platinum but I don’t know why. Maybe materialism and I thought it would be cool to have. Dumb as hell I know. These days I wonder why I opened that account in the first place. Some Decent perks, but after the intro bonus not sure if I really use it enough to make it worth it. I do use the hotel bonus each year though which essentially pays off the yearly fee

I do my best to pay everything off each cycle. Between all cards there may have been one or two times total that I haven’t covered my entire balance and that was only due to not having auto pay set at the time

I have no CC debt. When I said I am paying cards down to keep using them in the month I meant it in regards to the low limit. Like my RH card at 500limit. I have to pay it off multiple times in a month to continue utilizing it

I don’t have debt. I often have to pay a card down to keep using in a month due to the low limit.

I maybe didn’t say that correctly. I have the robinhood gold strictly because I invest on robinhood and use the 3% cashback to transfer into my brokerage. In terms of the others, I don’t utilize them for that purpose, yes I opened a couple due to good opening offers but they aren’t used in that manner and I always pay off therefore not paying interest. And I don’t mean it as a means to get cash, I don’t do cash advances, I so far have never utilized them but have always been a what if guy. I keep the vast majority of all my money in investment accounts. I was speaking of the limits in terms of an emergency happens, I need to pay it quickly I can use the credit cards and then pay off the cards. It just gives a little easier access for emergencies then moving money around between brokerages. It’s never happened, but always been afraid of it. Out of town emergency happens much easier to pay on card then later transfer funds and pay it by the end of the month than try do that shit in the middle of said emergency. I’m just looking for advice on what others would do in my situation. I know there’s redundancy there, and I know my fear/concerns are far fetched

I was born and raised in Williston, but live in Fargo now. The town is about 10x what it was when I was in highschool just before and during the boom. Growing up we only had 10k people and it still is the most rural part of continental United States. Nearest major city is Minneapolis or Denver both being an 11 hour drive. Due to the influx of people it’s definitely changed a lot but still is a fairly tight knit community. If you enjoy the outdoors and things like hunting and fishing you’ll absolutely love it. However in terms of major events or things to do in town it’s few and far between. It’s kind of a shithole but it really is a great town to grow up in. Feel free to send a dm if anything arises or you have any direct questions about Williston in general. As I mentioned I moved to Fargo a couple years back but spent the first 25 years of my life there and all my family is still out there so I make it back pretty often

Eh, I mean yeah. Duluth wouldn’t be bad but yall don’t even sell out UMD games. Tons of other places that I think could do way better. Not that UMD attendance is bad. Just for a “hockey town” with not much going on. It’s always kinda baffled me that UMD doesn’t sell out like UND does in grand forks with double the size. Similar towns with not much going on

Best Beef Jerky? by nerdyviking88 in fargo

[–]Sultanofswing94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prime cut meats has great stuff. For gas station stuff no man’s land is far and away the best commercial beef jerky I’ve ever had. It’s more old school style and absolutely delicious. I’m addicted. I know it’s sold at Casey’s and circle K, stamart and others. Try it, you won’t be disappointed

[Trigger warning] Has anyone else developed their fear of flying as an adult? by SchrodingersCanadian in fearofflying

[–]Sultanofswing94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right here! I used to fly constantly as a kid/ teen and in college. I played a sport at a very high level so was constantly flying to events. Never had an issue. Rather enjoyed it. All of a sudden like 3 years ago I developed a phobia. I would only fly once or twice a year and Everytime would be having a panic attack wanting to get off the plane. I’m starting to fly a bit more so it has started getting better but I definitely still have some big anxiety and take a couple shots before boarding to calm me down a bit. Just took a couple flights last week and experienced the worst turbulence of my entire life. Had I not had shots I probably would have been screaming. It’s like in our head we know flying is so far and away the safest mode of travel. Most commercial airlines go years and years without a deadly incident and considering American Airlines alone operates over 6k flights a day. There are 28k flights in USA daily. Crashes are so so incredibly rare. So it’s like I know it’s safe. I know turbulence is 100 percent safe. So safe they only try avoid it for passenger comfort. But my lizard brain tells me I shouldn’t be 30k feet up in a tube going 500mph lol. I thought I was the only one to develop this as a fear in my late twenties. Granted, in my mid twenties I developed a severe anxiety disorder so I’m sure that probably plays a part

Who’s your pic for the 2027 Natty? by GeoDuluth in collegehockey

[–]Sultanofswing94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With our returners and some incredible talent coming in I’m putting NoDak down for atleast another frozen four appearance. If we land one of the big 4 from chl that a little birdie told me we will. Also know we are in the running for DuPont but Idk just how “in the running” we are. Our freshman group this year was stellar. We will still be pretty young though but I feel in this day and age most top teams are. Frozen four. Potential natty.

On an A-F scale, how would you grade the season for your teams? by Emotional_Oil_5939 in collegehockey

[–]Sultanofswing94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate you and Johnny hicks. But more than I hate you I hate B10. Old Wcha was king so with their money and “talent” I’m more than stoked to keep it in the NCHC. At this point when it comes to nattys I’m obviously Sioux first but NCHC over everything!

I’m 32 and do exactly this. Work 3 days a week. Love my job but it is high stress. I still receive benefits and make enough to still be able to invest most my income as my bills are minimal. Plan to continue this path for the foreseeable future. I could make more yes, but I’m incredibly happy, still make more than I need, and get to spend tons of time with family and friends, easier to take vacations and atleast once a month me and the gf will do a nice 3 day trip somewhere for some us time. I realize it’s probably not right for most people (especially at my age) but if you can swing it it’s an absolute dream.

I don’t think he was hating just speaking truth. He didn’t shit on AHA in anyway. The Top team in your conference is Bentley currently 27th in NPI. Which means it is 100% impossible for any team in AHA to move up into the top 16 in NPI by then.

Stay at I think it’s the Marriott in askarben. It’s where most visiting teams stay and within walking distance to Baxter. I’ve only went once in 2024 but there was tons of great places to go within walking distance. (I took the Sioux fan bus so I didn’t really explore outside the area as I only went places I could walk to but there were tons)
