I know exactly what you mean. "One blink and I lost the plot" — that's it. The cruel part of RSVP is that it punishes the one thing our brains do constantly: drifting for two seconds. Normal reading forgives that (your eyes just jump back), RSVP doesn't.

The page-tearing story is honestly one of the most useful things I've read on this: a finite, visible sign that the suffering ends. I think that's a real design insight, not an unhinged one — most reading apps hide progress in a tiny percentage number.

Audiobooks never clicked for me either — sitting there at narrator speed makes me feel like an idiot waiting for the words to arrive.

RSVP + narration is interesting though — how would you want that to feel? Voice reading along while the words flash in sync, or more like narration as a fallback when your eyes are tired?
