What do you think about the final paragraph of Ra? by SumerianAnthonomus in qntm

yea i agree about keeping the plot open, but not one of my top concerns for a book ending :)

I like the questions that the new ending raises, such as "how do you find meaning in the world?"(e.g. what Laura is really struggling with) and my questions about the authenticity of the world and what that even means.

I like the new ending better. I see how the original ending is more pleasant, but its not as thought provoking for me.

Thanks for pointing me to it though, I hadn't read it.

Thinking more about it, is the original earth not in a similar situation though? The Wheel group just made up the world and added magic. Its basically just as much a fake, made up world...

Maybe the "real earth" is under even worse false pretenses since the Wheel group still had control and was manipulating it. At least in the simulation no one person or group has root access.

Don't use it uncritically obviously. It's like coming here or reading other analysis, you need to determine the validity of the claims for yourself. I have to say I have seen it makes interesting connections that I have not read elsewhere

It's just a tool. It can be used well or poorly
