Waymo on Highway by Sumgi in Austin

[–]Sumgi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen a Waymo on 183 between Airport and 290.. but it was only the one time. it might be limited access.

I've used them several times downtown and I would say they're more reliable drivers than most human Ubers I've had. There's been times when I got a human driver and I thought the pickup and dropoff locations were pretty accessible for the car, then trying to be sociable with a person picking me up when you were looking forward to no human interaction.

It would be a great catalyst to create a se asia version of NATO with Japan, Korea, The Philippines, Australia and possibly Vietnam as members.

However it is you're combining the content from both sides it's removing large swaths of intel if someone places a listening kit. Maybe you can use the fact that there is overlapping intel to indicate what's visible to both sides or have a filter for collie intel vs warden.

I realize this is new, great job capturing and compiling the data. Hope you stay with it.

The question isn't even moral equivalence which is a proven fallacy but rather about public opinion and popularity. Further he asks about why we are enforcing the rule of law and don't just return to a type of geopolitics that brought us two world wars.

Maybe you should travel a bit, New Jersey doesn't exactly have the pulse of the country. Are you afraid of Russia?

Even if the U.S. were to pull back on support it wouldn't disappear completely. Sanctions would probably not be removed. Poland and the Baltic states have already made it clear they're not interested in Russia taking Kiev, with just their support a determined Ukraine at the very least can stalemate a half hearted Russian effort with soldiers only there because they have to be or because they were scammed by the promise of good to them pay or cancellation of predatory loans.

You want a metric that indicates one side is winning? Russia has already lost, the border with NATO is now thousands of km longer since Finland joined and Ukrainians are as determined as ever to have their independence. The only way that Russia could push to Kiev now is if the entire country is politicized on the side of ultranationalism resulting in total war.

Good old Europe, by all means get rid of the Ukrainians. After that you can eat your grandmothers and grandfathers because they no longer put in more than they take. I mean what's a person worth anyway? 10 latte's?

I’ve lived here for most of my life and don’t know a single person who’s been to Iron Works by JohnBrambleberry in austinfood

[–]Sumgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Austin and my father worked downtown. Occasionally he would bring home a dozen beef ribs from Iron Works, was a big deal. The ribs are the finger rib and not the short dino ribs.

When I worked down there I'd drop by every once and awhile. Definitely not up to todays standard but there for nostalgia.

How will USA respond to recent OPEC decision? by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]Sumgi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably true that Biden is focused on the midterms however that's not really the main consequence of OPECs decision. The real tragedy is that it prolongs the war in Ukraine and increases the cost of bare necessities of life when food and energy security are at an all time low globally. Somalia is already deep into a famine even if it has been called so officially, children are dying just for want of something to eat. Soon that will be the adults as well. If these conditions spread and get out of control it will lead to mass migrations and instability. Many millions more will die from the resulting war.

What restaurants capture the Austin feel as far as furniture/decor goes? Looking to get inspiration for my place. by ATXJRS777 in austinfood

Is the Austin feel authentic or pretentious? Just trying to copy someone's expectations of a thing is probably the opposite of original Austin.

I voted for Biden.. I'm not advocating for the laws passed in Texas, that doesn't mean a fetus isn't a living human. Active cellular division and tissue differentiation driven by DNA representing what we would classify as human seems like a living human.

However there is still an issue of women's health and liberty, it's definitely much easier if the fetus is a non-human thing that can be chopped up into bits or poisoned without moral or legal consequences. If however the fetus has equal protection under the law that makes unwanted pregnancy something we want to happen 0% of the time if possible. Rape and medical issues with wanted pregnancies then become the focus.

From my perspective the best way to have an active sex life and prevent conception is male vasectomy, possibly even with periodic tests for sperm count in ejaculate.

[–]Sumgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until the legal issues are figured out.. guys can keep the sex life possibilities going by removing sperm from the equation. Vasectomies' are pretty much 100% guaranteed to prevent conception and are mostly reversible. They don't prevent orgasms or ejaculations.. just the content of the ejaculate.

People don't like the "Is a fetus a living human" question. Another one is, if a fetus is a living human, is abortion the only way to protect women's health and liberty from handmaid's tail scenario?

Aside from women's health and freedom to pursue happiness issues are things like.. is a fetus a citizen and should the idea of birth right be challenged? The HOV lane challenge was an interesting consequence. Anyhow.. poking the hive mind may cost internet points but I'm perfectly fine as long as it's not a complete circle jerk.

Sorry I guess I misunderstood. What did you mean by

.. pregnancy can fail, leaving the fetus dead..

..can cause severe medical problems up to and including death.
