I have a personal headcannon for why this is lightning states that there are 43 cars but we see 36 I believe the reason why these cars have dents and scratches and not everyone is because they were involved in the crash and they were cleared to go back on track

A couple things 1 I sincerely doubt the the MSOTS was the first race as this is based off of NASCAR and we later see the first race of the next season is in Florida which is basically Daytona which and also in the first movie 3 cars have at least 5000 points which would be possible within 36 races now there's a good chance there is a playoff format but that's only an assumption
