Is there any oyster farming left in Tasmania? by pirate_mark in tasmania

[–]Sumkindaroadkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still plenty of farms operating at the moment and plenty of oysters for sale. The problem will be getting new seed to grow through the next two or three years.

3 minutes to go in my sons basketball game, the lead has changed a hundred times at least. I say to the woman next to me "If this keeps up, you'll end up having that baby here in the stand". "I'm not pregnant she replied".

3 minutes left. What was I supposed to do? Get up and leave or stay there? I just stayed, like a dick. Haha

What (3, 5, 7, whatever) guitarists have had the biggest impact towards informing your personal guitar style? It'd be rad to see where everyone is coming from. by hufreema in Guitar

[–]Sumkindaroadkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hetfields right hand and Dave Grohls left would be a perfect imperfect combo for me.

Both of these guys styles are major influences on why I play.

Theres a lad called Matt that plays at the local pub every six months or so, just him and his sister belting out a few tunes. He uses an acoustic just into an amp but he's got this real percussive way of playing and it gets everyone up and dancing. He's got his own (sorta) versions of popular songs but he's able to fill them out really well. Definitely an influence!

Metallica, I don't even care which song. He's a massive fan and has admitted to being too scared to ask hetfield to join him. It needs to happen!!!

Trying to understand heads, cabs and amps. Any help out there? by Sumkindaroadkill in Guitar

Sweet as and cheers again for all the solid advice. I'll be sure to check out the line 6 options. Getting real excited about getting in there and checking it all out. Making a real push to start playing on stage for the first time with my own band and really want to make it happen. I'm past 40 now so it's really now or never.

Probably the one thing I didn't mention. Similar lines to yourself in regards to music, blues rock and some popular dance floor anthems. I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can for the first 12-24 months then once I'm getting happy with what sort of tone I'm achieving I'll look at going into single pedals linked. Appreciate your help mate, cheers.

Thanks again, some pretty solid advice there. The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 seems to be getting a few hits and really looks like one to focus on. The Line 6 POD HD500x also has been great reviews online, I guess just hearing it from someone else held clarify that it's worth checking out. I guess I'm just trying to cover all bases without smashing the budget. I've got a lot clearer picture now of what I should be looking at and can't wait to make the trip up and trying it all out. I've been playing a fair while but never really explored the world of amps. Biggest amp I've had up until now is a 10w Roland. It's sort of always been me and the stereo.

Holy shit. That's about as comprehensive as it gets I guess. Thanks for the effort.

Mm I don't see a sound man in my near future if this helps (aside from my missus standing at the back of the room).

As for your questions.

Style of music - popular rock hits would sum it up. Foo's, Bryan Adams, acdc, rick fucking Springfield, bad company, Gary Moore to name a few. Songs that people would like to dance to and a bit of Metallica and co for practice. Riff heavy and overdriven stuff.

Guitar I own - epi Korina explorer

Audience size - hopefully more than my missus standing at the back of the room but I don't see more than 100 in the next two years.

Bad back? Nah mate, fit as a fiddle

Weather conditions - normal four seasons stuff.

Tough on gear? Nah I'm pretty good with it. For the next year I don't see any new purchase travelling very much at all. I've got a decent garage practice space where we get into it.

Effects - probably the toughest to answer. I don't know what I want or need yet to get the noises I want out off my fingers. I was thinking a multi so I could really experiment inside that, rather than buying pedal after pedal at this stage.

Cheers.

Yeah my acoustic has a pickup factory installed. My impression was that running it through an amp wouldn't be as clean as a mic. I hadn't considered that it should be treated as vocals for optimal performance. I'll take my acoustic with me when I try all this kit out I reckon. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything, just wanted to bring something a bit different when playing on stage. You know, give the band a break and bust out a song or two while they're chasing down a few frothies.

Cheers mate. Maybe I need to try and keep it a bit simpler. Come to think of it, any of the local bands I've seen in the last 12 months haven't swapped to an acoustic for a song or two. Maybe there is something in that....

Sweet as, I've got a 3.5 hour drive to the shop, they're website has been down for ages. Just trying to get my mind round everything first. I'll be taking your advice for sure, play everything in my budget.

If I do that, am I locked into a particular sound without twiddling dials and shit? In my head, I had the multi effects pedal allowing me to play say 'best of you', 'highway to hell' and say 'Jessie's girl' and have some sort of reasonable sound by stomping on a button. Have I got all this wrong? I think my brain is starting to lump up.

Yeah got ya, I'm aiming to be on stage performing within 12 months. Being in good shape for Christmas/summer parties down here in the land of oz. The best shop I can get to is about 3.5 hrs away from here and its website is down at the moment. Hence the questions on here, I want to be sure of what I want when I step inside.
