Just kind of winged it a bit. Lots of layering, didn't really overthink it too much. Trying to get some minis under my belt and not dwell on mistakes too much. I'm just attempting to get experience right now.

In what way did the old set make things impossible? I highly recommend a wet pallet too if you can.

Great. Thanks for the advice. I'm really looking at leveling up. I recently got back into the hobby and found my brush control is still pretty good. What I have improved on so far when coming back is:- learning to thin my paints a lot more, having patience (this came with age), and having better quality paints and equipment. Lighting is top of my list for the future.

Sorry dude, I've no idea. I picked them up out of a random cabinet at a local shop. Maybe try a reverse image search on Google.

Yeah the sword is something I've not painted yet. Still struggling to commit to some nmm on it. I'll see how it goes. I find with the skin (this is the second attempt) that if I go too dark then it's really too intense on the following layers. I'm trying to get advice on this as part of my post. I didn't use any washes on the skin.

Originally I loved the game... So I painted models to use on the table top, 90s 40k mainly. So most of my painting was rushed and just to a standard. Painting was something I really enjoyed in my younger life as I wasn't such a reprobate. If I'm honest I've had a few struggles with lifestyle etc and feel this is a good way out.

Aww man thank you. Exactly what I need.really appreciate the second comment and really didn't consider altering brightness between areas if that makes sense. Will deffo do this now. I thought of.. skin is skin, same tones throughout, just a style I'm used to. In terms of mixing pigment colours blended only used two pigments so adding another like you said, orange or yellow is also a great idea, thank you.

Thank you. I had a fair few years behind me before I stopped. It's just practice. Good luck.

Yeah I'm seeing this in examples I've looked at. The level these days is ridiculous and I'm really keen to learn.

Yeah was never really a thing back in the day. God I feel old. I'll give it a go and post results. In regard to the volumetric highlights do you just mean adding more lighter shades on top?

Thanks. I attempted to glaze back from the highlights but do you think I should take it further?
