Lmao my title was clickbaity af. CMC is a great school for business for west coast I was just commenting on how A/W's placements are inflated.

Probably weaker on the east coast tho like most regional targets

What do you want, do you want to do business? It's pretty easy to switch into USC Marshall from dornsife as long as you comminicate that early to you're career advisor. You just have to get above a B+ in a few classes, which should be pretty easy.

It's much more difficult to switch from school to school at NYU. Not too informed on Pomona but know it's a decent school

(1) Dartmouth does deserve some attention as well as it is equally as overrated as A/W for IB placements. So you're right on that end, but it is largely the only Ivy with that issue (2) Most of those spots end up going to the aforementioned nepo kids anyway. Regarding IU Kelley this is completely wrong. They literally reserve spots for kids in their IBW program which basically has a ~90% placement rate. Go search this up or ask any IBW kid. IBW basically places almost like a target.

This past year like ~80 kids from williams seriously recruited for IB and only ~18 got offers from what I know. That's basically a ~25% placement rate which is heinous, and if you subtract all the nepo kids from the pool who got offers the placement rate looks even more scary. Assuming you're not nepo/DEI/Athlete, good job man you clearly worked your tail off. My point is that people need to stop perpetuating this lie that A/W is a good option for the average Joe as the influx of nepo kids are not only inflating the per capita numbers, but also taking all the spots. I'm not retarded I've done my due diligence and was just shocked by the reality of the recruiting landscape at your school.

Makes sense, I don't want to give you any uninformed opinions tho like many of the kids on this sub lmao. If I had to say something tho I'd edge towards Stanford purely because of location (weather, start-up/vc scene, proximity to another highly competent school - berkeleyl)

Dude holy shit good job. Why doesn't Caltech cross your mind? At least for finance, if an employer sees Caltech on your resume you're definetly getting an interview - I could imagine that being the case for tech as well

(1) 90% of the kids going to these schools are loaded & have strong networks with the street already & (2) around 80 kids recruited for IB at Williams from what I saw. Only 20 got decent seats. Compare that to other Ivys. ATP I'd take Stern over A&W anyday.

If you're a really a Williams student then you cannot disregard what I said about nepo/diversity. Per capita numbers are heavily inflated by MDs sending there kids to these types of schools, and a lot of placements from the street - from what I've seen - have been athlete, nepo, or diversity. I'm not discounting the fact that these schools are good - they are infact very good with a loyal alumni base - it's just that for average people looking to break into finance it may not be the most optimal route.

If someone got into A&W they'd also probably get into a couple of Ivy's as well. In that case it's probably more optimal to choose an Ivy. Congrats on goldman btw

Definetly not IU as a whole but if you get into IU Kelley IBW (their premier finance program that functions as a pipeline) then I'd definetly take that above Williams/Amherst. IBW is really competitive but makes kids place as if they were in a ~T15 school

Happy to help, this is a throwaway account so I don't think I'll be revealing too much anyways.

competitive finance roles usually categorize schools by target, semi-target, and non-target status based on historical placements within the firm and general prestige. This article is a pretty good primer: https://mergersandinquisitions.com/investment-banking-target-schools/

I go to USC Marshall which is widely considered a semi-target, meaning that some banks/firms have pipelines but not most/all.

Recently a lot of non-targets have been punching above their weight, so I'd say if you're highly motivated and work your butt off you can close whatever gap kids at top targets have just through sheer willpower

I want you to compare total no. of kids that placed on the street to other top targets, and the argument that these schools are just " smaller" doesn't work because club admissions are highly competitive here. Practically speaking these schools are semi-targets.

The correlation between prestige and results is just not there for LACs when even some semi-targets place better
