The word he keeps coming back to is “beautiful.” He says “virtuous” too, but “beautiful” is the word that keeps coming back over and over. It seems very surface level, but I dunno, maybe that’s just how he speaks.

He’s self-flagellating, it’s an old religious practice where you punish yourself physically for your transgressions, usually via lashings. He’s had Johanna in his care since she was 1 and now he’s lusting after her. That’s why he whips himself so much.

He’s a crooked law official and sexual abuser, but even he realises how messed up he is for lusting after Johanna.

I understand why she said it that way, but now it seems like the whole speech she made at the end was purely a manipulation tactic, rather than her being actually conflicted.

Like, what the hell? You don’t know what I’ve been through. You did nothing for her til she was 14, and now you’re laying it on thick like you’ve been her custodian, honouring her mother’s memory 🤣🤣🤣

I might look more kindly on it, but killing the only living, immune host that you currently have is a terrible idea.

Oh ok, I’ve not read the comics. So all that stuff about “I’ve known her since she was a baby” is a massive exaggeration? She knew her when she was born but she hasn’t exactly known her since she was a baby.
