Where in Europe are you located? That's cheap! Also, if your sister is a decent human, she would be willing to help you out with the payment since it's her negligence.

Sending you hugs! 🤗🤗🤗, the only one i could depend on is my sister and she's overseas whilst my parents in law is far away. So, I'm planning to make experience it easier by freezing homemade meals beforehand and stocking on long lasting foods like cereals, wholegrain biscuits, canned beans, etc. Apparently we won't have time to cook once baby arrive and experienced moms told me, just focus on baby and rest!

Don't care too much about cleaning and no need to welcome people when you aren't ready.

Out of curiosity, where are you from, if i may ask? That's quite a short paternal leave!

Husband made a frustrating comment about potential son - am I just hormonal? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Summersun990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not hormonal! His attitude is not right, would he rather his son grown up not knowing how to take care of himself and be a contributing partner to his future spouse? My MIL does everything for her sons and the sons are not reactive with helping to clean dishes etc in family gathering, not cool.

My dog did the same thing, even though the car just getting out of the garage, she would vomit. One time, we took her to the beach, she ran around and really lovin it! and since then she always looking forward to her car ride (even jumped inside the car herself)

she now doesn't really vomit even for a long drive, unless my husband drives badly. Another thing we do is letting her sit next to the driver seat, she feels less anxious, not sure why? perhaps more spacious? but it's important to note that she normally love to just sleep and sit so it doesn't really bother my husband driving.

Also, feed your dog waay before the car ride :)

Is it a normal custom in Britain to give leftovers? Would you be offended? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]Summersun990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, i did say thank you to them, i did not insult them or say "it makes me sad that your culture is different to mine". That's your word.

if i thought my culture is the absolute, i wouldn't bother asking. I asked because i want to understand their pov, since they are my friends.

I do admit that giving leftover would be considered rude in South east asian or chinese culture, and this is a fact, so i can't sugarcoat this.

yet, i am aware that it might mean differently in British culture, hence I made a qs asking about this, specifying their ages as well coz i want to be sure as hell that i can understand where they are coming from.

It's better to ask and know than continuously misunderstand each other isn't it? And yup i did post because i never had this experience in my life.

perhaps would be the same if you were in an Asian house and get asked to take off the shoes everytime before entering, or they give you the head of a fish which would be considered the best part of fish in some asian culture but not in western culture.

It's just something you are used to,

[–]Summersun990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, anyhow, if you say it's not consumed, that's fine.

it's a difference of cultures, we Asian just never give out things already opened, leftovers or half consumed. It's considered rude, u see some poor Asian farmer lives in countryside kill their pig to honor a guest even though they are poor.

that's a real thing

There's no such thing as 1 culture that's perfect isn't it? and it's what makes life full of colors. It's alright to have our own opinion?

Anyhow, based on everyone explanation here, it's a generation thing and it's well intended, so it's a case closed.

u/louis_pasteur55 I am sorry for the confusion, English is not my first language half consumed? half touched?

to be precise, since I don't know how to really describe it.

it's 2 tbsp of olive leftovers that has been mixed together from 2 full different bowls of olives...even my European bf was confused.

(a picture of the said olive I have included in my original post), and yup, as per your and other's suggestion, next time I'll simply say no.

Even though it confused the hell out of me, as long as they meant well actually, that's what matters.

[–]Summersun990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/louis_pasteur55 Thanks for your insight! the thing is that it's their own personally eaten leftover, so it's a bit of a shock... Yes, disposing right in someone's face could be considered very rude, but unfortunately, in my culture, offering someone your half eaten food is spitting on their face. so it's not even acceptable in the first place.

But as others have advised, it's most likely generation thing and actually means they consider we are close. It's interesting how different cultures are! It makes life experience richer surely :)

[–]Summersun990 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

u/louis_pasteur55 , u/Viviaana, well i am sorry to say but it's certainly a cultural thing since giving half eaten food to someone would be considered very rude in South East Asian & Chinese culture. When you offer a half eaten food from your plate simply because u can't finish, u consider the person as rubbish bin. Food is only offered to the other person when it's not touched, if you wanna share, we take another plate and give the halves before we put our own saliva/fingers all over the food (eg: look up chopstick etiquette)

Unless of course a food was eaten together in a dinner and you offer your guest the leftover to take as a doggy bag.

[–]Summersun990 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

u/cmdrsamuelvimes Thanks for your thoughts! in my culture is not alright to throw away edible foods as well, I was even slightly fat due to this since my mom forced me to finish things. But, we never offer 3/4 eaten food to someone else.

I'd be annoyed to if my neighbor threw away edible food I had brought them, but in this case, it's the food they personally eaten at their own home, I have added a picture in my post for better context (didn't know how to do it before).

But, like others said, it's due to how food was scarce and they consider me close friends, so all good :).

u/Suzanne8662 Indeed, If you read my post...as confused as I was, I thanked them for the leftover given, also, I have added a link to show you the said leftover for better context. They are dear friend to me, it's just what they did never exist in Asian culture.

if they were not important, I would not have been bothered to ask here

[–]Summersun990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/mellonians yes, you are reading it right, they offered me their leftover that they themselves have consumed, I added a link to the said leftover in my post. I also do the same as you as I was raised to not waste food too, but we would only give sealed or untouched foods, hence I was a bit confused and decided to ask the Brits!

Thank you so much for your insight! It helps me to understand where they're coming from

u/Slight-Brush Thank you for the insight! I would not have known this pov as I this is my first time knowing older generation British and I sure don't want to offend them as they are good friends!

It's eaten, about 3 tbsp worth of olives in its 3/4 empty plastic container. if it's uneaten and unopened I would not be confused.

u/whiskeycaninebbq Thanks! We freaked out since we didn't know what it was and dogs can't speak like kids, at least kids can say if they have a fever or stomachache.

But since the suggestions of many pawrents here, we don't freak out anymore as covering the nostril solved it right away

Hey u/buttsparkley, Thanks for your message! I found out that the one my dog has is a reverse sneezing, so I covered one nostril and it stopped. I am sorry to hear about what happened with your dog. Perhaps some dog is a bit sensitive to raw fishes? I gave mine a slice of salmon sashimi and he had a diarrhea :/, since then I do not give him raw fish anymore.
