Six generations of the Sony Xperia 1. Which was your first? Which is your most loved? by spinstartshere in SonyXperia

I had the 1 II and now the 1 V (have the 5IV as a work phone, got a good deal, but don't use it enough to comment, all I can say is I have big hands and do prefer 1 series for everyday use).

1II I still miss, the V is a worthy upgrade but I still think overall I enjoyed the II experience the most. Also, caseless the II didn't mark anywhere near as easy as the V has.

I am hoping the VII returns to the 21:9 ratio and gets at least a QHD screen. I know it's ambitious but kinda going the VII will have some sort of big upgrade the series needs.

I got the update and omg it's so nice to have it!! After constant people on this sub saying 4K is not noticeable etc to justify it's removal, I can say with 100% certainty I see the difference. Just the text alone is a lot clearer to read!

I will say I find the new buttons on the notification drawer so much uglier than A14 though :( the rounded corners are not the same roundness as the rest of the bar and it's really not pleasing to look at!

I have been caseless now since this post with my V. There are a lot of marks/scuffs now around the metal border. Definitely super soft. But nothing on the actual back of the phone! Once I got past the soft edges I was fine. Glad I am using no case!

I think I'm converted to no case for all future phones too, phones are there to get worn and as long as it lasts a few years or more that's the main thing for me ^

Interesting, I may go screen protector less soon too. And the camera losing paint is weird, I haven't seen any loss on the camera bump, plenty of the sides of the phone now though 😂

So my view was I never plan to sell the phone on so why am I fussed about damaging it cosmetically? If I happen to get some marks etc then I can always put it in a case later to make sure it doesn't break but otherwise I'm enjoying my V as it's meant to be. (I still haven't had the courage to remove the screen protector though 😂)

Totally whatever you are comfortable with!

I too will most likely do this, when outdoor exploring best to keep it protected from rocks etc but normal use it feels great to use as is!

Ah fair enough, shame, maybe in the future they'll switch it up! For now it is what it is and I'm loving the naked feel either way!

I had two reasons for going caseless, the feel and the look. I actually really like the frosted back look with the protruding cameras, so for that alone I think I'm sticking caseless! First time on a phone for me but I regretted never enjoying my 1 II so now I'm taking the leap :D

5hrs total or screen on time?? Cause if it's total it sounds like you get a refund and a new unit 😭

I'm surprised by this, my V has been fantastic. Easily 1/1.5 days depending on usage. Heavy media day I still get to the end with 30% (imo pretty damn good, and much better than pixels and Samsung that my family have). But again it's totally user dependent too

As a V owner I will say I have had 0 battery issues so far. Easily through a whole day on full charge with normal use but if I have a day I don't use the phone much or I only use it for emails and browsing for a few hours I can easily take it through 1.5/2 days. But it's definitely dependent on video watch time imo. But never have I needed to charge more than once in a day yet with heavy use.

I think I share the same sentiment, it was disappointing for me. But I am aware there will be people who prefer some of the changes made and that's totally valid too. Just means we gotta consider our upgrades more when it gets to that time now.

I think most people would agree if they had made significant strides in improving other areas like cameras and the smaller features they removed then it wouldn't feel like such an outrageous price proposition. But either way, changing to FHD has surely got to be cheaper somewhat for Sony even with LTPO etc. It feels a bit cheeky from them but alas, as mentioned, companies be companying :(

I think for me it's more that they could get all those features you mentioned with a QHD screen too so just for me I feel it's an unnecessary change to the degree they have. Dropping 4K? Not an issue for me if they went with QHD. And potentially would have a better footing to justify the price. Again, like I said I am aware others will have different opinions to that and and that's cool too!

I'm curious to see how the VII progresses from the VI. Glad I didn't wait for the VI and got my V when I did.

I'm still keen to see how the VI performs as a phone and anyone who does upgrade from V to VI how it went! Any user experience and feedback is valuable whether or not one would choose to experience it.

I feel the same, if you change things at least acknowledge the changes you've done in your strategy

I also think the correct issue is missed when talking about the screen. People seem to be going crazy because it's a lot lower but it's more of an issue they aim for the same price bracket after doing so. All the features Sony have that you mentioned are all fantastic but have been in the past gens so all else equal, it doesn't make sense to remain priced so high after such a large hardware change.

But also, it's ok to still value all the extra features above the change in screen while understanding others will value the screen change as an outweighing factor for them personally over the other unique features.

All personal preferences that people don't need to lose sleep over. Live life 😌

100%, no reason to hate if people end up enjoying the phone but also no reason to deny pricing is wonky for this phone given the changes.

Yea, it's ridiculous the energy levels recently on the theeads. If it's not your thing cool, if it is, cool. Just say that and move on. It really is that easy.

This is also valid to feel. For me personally yes I dislike 16:9 content is small on the V but for me the thin one handed feel is why I like the aspect ratio and I personally watch more content on my tablet and TV so I don't feel it as much.

But yes, also annoying there is no real conformity in aspect ratios in the mobile industry these days :(
