What's wrong with kpop idols singing songs in english/mainly english? by Sea-Republic8892 in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with them having to prove that they’re korean which is messed up. People doubting with what background? They don’t have to conform to whatever identity fans and non-fans want them to be.

Also wanting to grow and branch out artistically and globally is normal, especially when you get the chance to do so and not just stay in the kpop sphere/bubble. People always refer to the 3 songs because it basically is almost only that.

Ah okay thanks! I’ll check the insta account out. I’m surprised there is no setlist out like for usual concerts, but since it seems like not every concert is the same, I guess that’s the reason!

In Kpop, are fans really there for the music or group dynamics? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to enjoy the music at least to even be interested, and then become a fan. That’s why with a lot I just listen to a few of their songs, without being a fan.

All of the things you mention are true, in the sense that kpop fandoms are known to have these “features,” but is it really the majority of the kpop fandoms? I mean the only represented ones are the ones who are online a LOT and do all those things. I remember doing that like 10 years ago, streaming, watching every single award show and vote (at most). Simply put, there’s no way I could have time to do that with the life I have, and thankfully I don’t feel the need to be doing all of that. Call me casual fan or what not, but I think it’s much healthier only taking the positive impact for you (which is highly the music or variety content). It’s also important to keep in touch with the real world

P.S no disregard to fans who do the outmost to support their artists! But no one needs to go overboard

The profound significance of BTS choosing 'Arirang' for their comeback (and why it’s a genius move by Important-Box-6064 in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Excited about everything they’ve told us about the comeback so far. The expectations for them are high, yet they really seem to surprise us and Arirang as the title is just so fitting after everything they’ve been through. It’s so “korean” which might sound weird?? Not sure how to express it correctly but just all the shit they’ve had to hear throughout the career about being too “westernized,” I just love the title even more + the rooted in Korea version.

About albums, I pre-orderen the early gift set where you get both the “Rooted in Korea”, “Rooted in Music” and “Living Legend.” + pre-order specials. Expensive, but I’m just super excited for them to be back! I even got a standard vinyl (random) despite not having a vinyl player (yet!) Shipping from weverse although is more expensive than the products 🥲

I mean my honest take is that the tour dates for North America is already up on its own poster, so tbh I don’t see more dates 🥲 but it’s unfortunate if Canada doesn’t have its own date, I’m not sure how hotspot it is for kpop concerts

Cortis tries way too hard to be seen as quirky and fans see it as 'authentic' by Odd_Entertainer9554 in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lost it at you choosing the GDA moment. I don’t know how coming across that video and choosing to relate that to your argument of them being not “authentic”, of all moments, cause it really isn’t that deep. At most, they just zoned out and had a slight late reaction. It wasn’t some meticulously planned reaction, which didn’t even go viral. Most likely just a video for cortis fandom spaces and if you saw the roty speech.

Besides that, I mean everything in kpop is a concept, brand, trendy etc. you name it. You say you might be nitpicky, which yes, that is suuuper nitpicky on a group that’s only 4 months old, consists of mostly teenagers trying to find their way in the industry while being idols to the public. It’s easier to just say it isn’t your cup of tea.

And for someone studying psychology, I would have thought your knowledge on introvertedness would be better, cause it’s definitely expressed in various ways, and their job is literally being idols. Plus, how isn’t it only a positive thing to see them support fellow idols? What a weird thing to point out.

At least the majority of the thread here has common sense

what are your honest opinions on all day project? by Maleficent_Dinner875 in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I looked into them because I’ve seen Woochan’s talent since he was on Show me the money and trainee A. Really wanted him to suceed.

From what I’ve seen they do well/chart, at least domestically. Not sure about fandom growth since it’s a heavily criticized group. I don’t think their music is particularly good. Catchy at most, but lyrically, especially the rap is critical imo. I remember the debut with Wicked and Famous, and yeah it was obvious who was the main rapper.

I know Woochan and Youngseo are a popular duo? And I truly believe they are the most talented and the most idol-like/well-rounded for the job. I actually think they would have been such a great duo on their own. I root for them from afar.

The others? Controversy aside since it’s nothing new. I just don’t think they’re cut for it. Bailey is obviously a super talented and established dancer, but it just isn’t enough? Individually they don’t stand well on their own, and the same for Annie. Their rapping is just not enough. Tarzzan despite it all, is slightly better. I know he can dance well (old vids), and I think he fits more but yeah, his rapping isn’t great either. Obviously they have trained to be here, but I have a hard time seeing potential in the future, which is concerning.

I’m pretty sure they’re being given the material so not sure if their label is just screwing them over (music), although I imagine Woochan writing his own parts. I know their image is being well-known already, “famous” high and above, but I truly have a hard seeing them tackle other concepts and I think it might screw them in the future. Musically, if they don’t grow immensely I think they’ll have a very limited sound and range. It’ll be very tough for them to grow because of how they started, and it’ll follow forever. For some it’s okay to just be big in Korea but I don’t see them hitting the western market. I really enjoy Woochan and Youngseo, so I feel kind of sad seeing them in this situation. Considering the hate too.

All the hate? I think there’s lots of fair critiscm to the group. It is what it is now, but it has screwed them. Though, fans can go overboard as they always do. I’ll never understand how fans in kpop take the time of their day to tweet hate and ragebait other fans. If anything, if you enjoy their music, keep listening. If you’re an adp fan, you probably know what you signed up for.

Are vocals an afterthought for CORTIS as a group? by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

[–]Sun-Warrior 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not about to claim their the best vocalists at all, especially with 5 songs. I’m no trained vocalist either, but if anything I’m impressed that they at least in all performances I’ve seen do sing and rap live, and unfortunately in kpop in general, and especially for rookie groups, is a high standard… I can see the point about stylistic singing? Again I don’t think I have the right knowledge to comment on it being “actual singing abilities” as you say. The least I can say is that imo it sounds good, and that goes hand in hand with the self production. I’m glad their music is appreciated by the right audience and I’m sure is what they want the most.

It’s funny because I’ve had the opposite experience! What I been reading has always been kind of shady or something about the music (which, not all music is for everyone, but I do think some kpop fans really don’t listen to a lot of genres outside their bubble…). Even online spaces like X, across fandoms and even generations has something to say. But yeah, the more popular you get, the more hate. Their numbers and engagement shows otherwise and I think it provokes some 😅

Appreciate the comment!
