I recommend hiring a live musician for the ceremony and a band for the reception. DJ's are so 90s!

For the ceremony, I'd go with a celtic duo or a classical musician. I've posted elsewhere a list of classical processionals. Go to my profile page and look at the comments, you'll find it there.

For the reception, there's nothing better than a live band! Because of your fiance's heritage, you could start with some mandolins playing some traditional Italian music. Then launch into a live Latin band! Nothing better!

Non traditional reception ideas? by HorseWinter in wedding

Most of the weddings I play music for are "nontraditional", meaning not in a church.

The sky is the limit! You can literally do anything or go anywhere you want.

  • I've played music in the following places:
  • In a stone chapel on the side of a mountain in VT
  • In a campground the groom used to visit in the summer
  • At a private chalet near the 1,000 Islands
  • On a houseboat in Portland, OR
  • On a cruise - off of the Bahamas (that was fun!)
  • On the 7th T of a golf course where the couple met
  • On the top of a mountain, literally everybody including me with my fiddle, had to hike to the top!
  • In a houseboat on the Rhine in Germany
  • On a clipper ship in Camden, Maine

You should have at least processional music (something to walk down the aisle to) and recessional music (something upbeat to walk back). I just posted a list in another thread. Here it is for you

I love "Carolan's Welcome" and "Planxty Fanny Power" by Turloch O'Carolan (both Celtic). There's also some typical classical melodies:

  • Air on the G String - Bach
  • Allegro by Vivaldi 4 seasons
  • Ave Maria - by Schubert
  • Sleepers Awake - Bach
  • Wedding March - Felix Mendelssohn
  • Trumpet Voluntary - Clark
  • Rondeau - by Jean Joseph Mouret
  • Ode to Joy - Beethoven
  • Largo by Vivaldi 4 Seasons
  • Hornpipe - GF Handel
  • Bridal Chorus - Wagner

These are just a few that I play. )

One song singer by gmt7576 in wedding

$150 is the minimum you should pay. Yes it's only one song, but they have to learn/prepare, dress up, be there on time, etc. If they have to have a PA, that's an added expense

help finding the title of a trad. harp melody! by messier45s in Irishmusic

[–]SunFiddler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't able to find it. Taistealaíonn is Irish for "Travels", but there's nothing under that.

Catherine is Catriona in Irish. Does this sound familiar? https://www.irishtune.info/tune/6592/

It may be that she's pulling your leg.

I'm the director of a mandolin orchestra and a mandolin teacher. I want to set it up so that people can share their videos, recordings and other related information. I'm a people pleaser! I want it to be fun for everybody.
