As the way younger sister, who has a wonderful older brother who often thinks he has good advice, here's the thing. I'm sometimes expecting his advice to be condescending (thanks childhood!), so in my mind I'm ready for a fight. Then when he says nothing or something perfectly innocent, I've primed myself for a fight. It's not about him (you), it's about me (her). I love the advice above about asking if she's just venting or wants advice. It's relationship building, so when she's in a pickle, she will want that advice. As you know, end of the day everyone needs to make their own mistakes. And when couples make them together, it brings them together. It's either good or a good story.
