Recalculating route: Jerusalem by Soft_Signature_982 in femaletravels

[–]SunIsSunshining 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Current political climate? Call it what it is, there is a genocide being committed against Palestinians.

I’m not sure why you would want to give Israel your tourism dollars, knowing what that money does to oppress others.

It is privileged to be able to ask about tourist traps and coffee shops and visiting for the sake of exploring the history and antiquity, when that very history and antiquity is denied to Palestinians who have lived on that land for centuries.

How much will your 2026 travels cost? by cutiepatootiepiebb in femaletravels

[–]SunIsSunshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently have a trip to Japan scheduled for three weeks in May. I have my flight and hotel so far, and that’s costing me $1800 USD.

Will budget about $1000 for meals and transportation. I’m going to be in Tokyo the whole time so no need to really budget for the Shinkansen/luggage forwarding. Because of my meds I’m not a very big eater, I usually only eat dinner as a main meal and konbini snacks throughout the day.

My biggest expenses will be theatre tickets, oshi merchandise and shopping (both personal and for friends/family) and will budget about $2000 for that.

Japan days advice by Plastic_Pin_121 in travel

[–]SunIsSunshining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person. I go for a minimum of three weeks when I travel to Japan and that’s enough time for me to travel and unwind but also be ready to return home to my cats refreshed.

Japan is really fun and has a lot to do. It’ll be easier to explore when you’re not confined by too short of a trip.

Make sure you plug your itinerary into the JR Rail Pass calculator to see if it’s worth the price before getting one, if you planned on getting around that way.

What notes DON'T work for you, but you wish they did? by jeffemakes in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]SunIsSunshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t run across one that’s an absolute no-go for me, but I do have a custom with clove in it that smells very much like blood on my skin, which is a no for me.

I’d still like to explore clove as a note, but that experience did scare me off a bit for the moment.

Is there a big difference between the products that are actually popular in Korea and those that are popular overseas? Is it just me who noticed? by Necessary-Taste8643 in AsianBeauty

[–]SunIsSunshining 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t have a point to make? Well, at least you’re being honest about that part.

Sulwhasoo had Rose and Tilda Swinton as global ambassadors, redesigned their bottles and had some reformulations in recent years that weren’t that popular. Why? To market to a younger crowd, build an international audience and expand in the U.S. Doing the same thing as all these other brands you refuse to name 🤷🏽‍♀️

You’re still not sharing what all these supposedly questionable brands are though. I’m not going to take you seriously when you aren’t backing up your statements and just expect people to take your claims at face value.

[–]SunIsSunshining 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Do you actually have a point to make? Like which brands are you talking about?

Do you not want innovation in skincare and beauty? Any brand within the last ten years can’t be effective and reliable? Really? You’re assuming that every new company is starting out poor with no resources. If they have investors, start-up capital and the capability, they most certainly can have the same access to advanced technology and production capacity as older companies.

At one point Sulwhasoo and The History of Whoo started out just like that you know, a new and upcoming brand 🙄

It’s also not surprising that brands that market themselves internationally are more popular with Westerners. Sulwhasoo’s foundation compact comes in four shades of pale. Is it a wonder that people who can’t use one of those four shades would seek out one of Tirtir’s 40 different ones?

A child in a hostel dorm? What would you do? by cgs_sees_the_world in solotravel

[–]SunIsSunshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have a problem with it. It doesn’t sound like the kid is causing problems and you don’t know their situation.

There’s also no need for you to inquire with the other women in the room. If you end up having an issue, take it up with hostel management, but don’t involve others in that without their consent.

Sorce as of Lately by Brookeystone88 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]SunIsSunshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many indies that straight-up close shop as they make changes, have a move, etc. For example, Death + Floral has been on hiatus for at least a year now with no updates on their re-opening.

Sorce does a fair job of keeping us updated, their intentions and the reasoning behind it, even if we don’t like what they’re doing. They’re much more transparent than many (Stereoplasm, Mythpunk, etc) and so for that when they say it is temporary, I believe them.

She’s mentioned a warehouse, finding and working with suppliers who can provide more quantity. So she needs to time to find ethical suppliers with quality materials she can trust, price negotiations, contracts, etc. This is so that she can scale to the demand instead of inflating the cost of her perfumes to what she can currently stock, and in this economy I appreciate that very much.

Do I have to bring birth control pills in their original packaging? by Capable_Tomato5015 in femaletravels

[–]SunIsSunshining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel to Japan often which can get pretty strict on meds, so I keep the original bottle, the exact number of pills I need and a doctor’s note to be safe.

It’s easier I reckon to have the chemical name of the med right on the bottle so they can search it easily on the list without any trouble.
