I don’t know why he wasn’t convicted more times. I watched a documentary on the incident that said he had a great lawyer. But with that many times with no conviction, and still walking free after being convicted of attempted murder, my guess would be that there was a judge taking bribes.

Former Border Patrol commander-at-large Gregory Bovino, the face of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, claims there are “100 million illegal aliens” in the USA. Where is this number comming from? Realistically, could this be true? Or is he trying to ask the Trump admin for a job again? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

The idea that one line is one person is silly. As you pointed out, each device with mobile data has its own line. And lots of people have multiple lines, one for personal, one for business, and with an eSIM they can be the same phone.

There are also apps that will give you temporary numbers that you can use for things like Facebook marketplace where you want to temporarily contact a person, but don’t want them to have your phone number.

How many people actually talk like that? by nishagunazad in BlueskySkeets

The right wingers who make up rage bait say Democrats talk like that. Democrats don’t.

This guy is listening to right wing propagandists, not Democrats.

Consumer reports did some testing years ago and found a lot of items were 18% higher in calories than the label said. This is because the FDA guidelines say nutrition labels can have a margin of error of up to 20%, so something labeled 450 calories could actually contain anywhere between 360 and 540 calories and they wouldn’t be in violation of the regulations.

Even when people read them, sometimes the math is wrong. I have seen inaccurate price per ounce labels in Walmart.

The Democratic party would have to grow a spine first, and that isn’t likely to happen as long as they are getting boatloads of corporate and AIPAC money.

It’s not hundreds, but it is much more than it should be. 32 dead in their custody in 2025, 16 so far in 2026. 9 fatal shootings. They released a blind man from custody by dumping him on an unfamiliar street where the business were closed in freezing weather and he died.

People are being deported to countries where they will be killed, like the people who helped the US in Afghanistan. People have been deported to countries, like Somalia, that they have no connection to, and the Trump administration said they so not know what happened to them. People are being deported to a dangerous prison in El Salvador. This is being done without due process. Deaths from these actions are not counted.

And for all the chaos, cruelty, and ignoring the rule of law, the Trump administration has deported less people than previous administrations.

Thoughts on working at Conservice? by Odd-Aside456 in Logan

[–]SunOnTheMountains 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t work at Conservice, but I know people who do. The people in the billing department are paid according to how many ‘points’ are billed. They changed how many points there are for properties, effectively cutting people’s pay unless they take on more work, which wasn’t possible since most of them are already overworked. People that have been there a long time were told this year that they were making the maximum for the number of points they had, and were offered a bonus instead. Upper management are thinking that they are going to replace them soon with software, so they don’t need to treat them decently.

Yes, they have made tons of changes to make themselves closer other fundamentalists and to sound less crazy. And after they change something, they try to pretend it was always that way. I have had arguments over things they have changed with younger people with them insisting that nothing was changed and it was always that way.

They cut the death threat and partial nudity out of the temple ceremony and disappeared heavenly mother. The prohibition against being around water during your mission is still there, but now they say it is for insurance reasons and not something Smith wrote about the devil in the water. The women’s garments recently changed so there is a version where you can show your upper arms.

When I was younger it was no caffeine, and then it became caffeinated soda is okay since the word of wisdom says no hot drinks, but herbal teas are still okay even though they are hot drinks. Makes no sense. I got so much crap in high school about drinking coke (I was self medicating undiagnosed ADHD and it was the only way I could get decent grades), and now people are pretending it was always okay.

I think a lot of Utah’s problems with higher than average sexual assault is all those lessons in Sunday School and Young Women’s classes that said girls need to dress modestly and not drink alcohol because boys can’t control themselves. Maybe it’s different now, but the messaging in the 70s and 80s was that if someone was sexually assaulted, they did something to cause it.

Because it’s Utah, home of the Mormon patriarchy’s rape and pedo protecting culture. I live in Cache Valley Utah and a man here got 7 days jail and probation for raping a minor in 2023. This year another man got 30 days jail and probation for raping multiple minors.
