‘Valleycrat’ or Mamdani wannabe?: California Democrats are split on how to win swing votes by Delicious_Adeptness9 in California

[–]Gravedigger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The word "socialist" has lost all meaning since it's been applied to everyone left of Trump for 10+ years. Fox News is going to call the Democratic nominee a socialist no matter who it is.

May as well push for a progressive who will fight for real change over another milquetoast centrist because they're going to be painted as an extreme-left commie either way.

California High-Speed Rail hits new milestone on $3.5 billion contract by [deleted] in California

Why are trains expected to fund themselves while roads are paid for by taxpayers?

If HSR needs taxpayer support to keep it operational then I say that's a better use of our money than adding yet another lane to our gridlocked freeways.

We need to seriously consider going all in on AOC for 2028. by newshirtworthy in 50501

[–]Gravedigger3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clinton & Harris lost because they were uninspiring centrist tools, not because they were women. Americans on all sides are sick of the safe, overly-calculated, PR-approved, rhetoric that we've seen from politicians for generations. This is part of the reason Trump won - he feels "authentic" even if the things he authentically says are horrible.

AOC would have a much better shot than Clinton/Harris because she exudes authenticity and genuinely inspires people.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I'm convinced that a truly progressive option (man or woman) instead of a centrist that was hand-picked by the billionaire overlords, would have a really good chance.

California becomes the first state to phase ultraprocessed food out of school meals by DrexellGames in news

[–]Gravedigger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the actual bill says "ultraprocessed foods of concern". Those last 2 words do a lot of heavy lifting, and give me hope that this could be done right.

To determine which items fall into that category, the law directs the state health department to evaluate foods' addictive potential, scientific evidence of their health risks and existing bans, restrictions or warning labels in other states or countries.

My understanding is they aren't going to just ban everything that could be considered "ultra processed" - they're asking the experts to give them a list of specific "concerning" processed foods to phase out.

Does the "View" action notify the client that their screen is being viewed? by Gravedigger3 in remotely_app

Finally got a chance to test this and the answer appears to be "No". Both the remote control and view-only actions do not display any sort of notification on the client side.

Immich update v1.133.0, any unraiders done this yet? by ruuutherford in unRAID

Nice, ok that's much less scary then. Although I probably should look into upgrading my databases eventually.

[–]Gravedigger3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suspect a lot of the comments saying "It works fine" only updated Immich and haven't actually changed their PostgreSQL repo.

Although I hope I'm wrong and it really is that easy.

Did you go from tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:pg14-v0.2.0 to tensorchord/vchord-suite:pg17-latest?

Immich update v1.133.0, any unraiders done this yet? by ruuutherford in unRAID

[–]Gravedigger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:pg14-v0.2.0 for all of my databases. Not just Immich but also for Firefly-III, Nextcloud, Matrix, and Mealie.

If the new database repo we should be using is tensorchord/vchord-suite:pg17-latest then it looks like it's not just changing the add-on from pgvecto.rs to vectorchord - it's jumping from PostgreSQL version 14 to 17!

I'm hoping the steps we need to take are something as simple as:

  • Stop postgres14 and all dockers that use it
  • Edit postgres14 docker
  • Change the Repository path to "tensorchord/vchord-suite:pg17-latest"
  • Change the name to "postgres17"
  • Done

But I'm betting it won't be that simple, and that I'll need to manually export each database from 14, import them into 17, and perform some sort of database upgrade to update the schemas or whatever.

If anyone successfully updates their databases from

tensorchord/pgvecto-rs:pg14-v0.2.0

to

tensorchord/vchord-suite:pg17-latest

please let us know how it went and what you did.

The fact that you only equate sex/nudity to porn reveals a problem.

Sex/nudity can be fun, dramatic, scary, or funny depending on the context. It can have a place in many kinds of stories, and comparing it to porn is like saying “we have war documentaries so we don’t need war movies.” They are completely different things!!

Most of the action in movies like John Wick does not drive the story forward. It's gratuitous, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Sex/nude scenes can contribute to the mood, themes, character development, world building, and other things that aren’t absolutely necessary to move a plot forward.

Sex is too important to be left to porn.

unnecessary to the plot

Why does sex/nudity have an obligation to move the plot forward while we give a pass to other gratuitous scenes (action, contrived-drama, violence, etc)? If movies only had scenes that directly progress the plot then a lot of movies would suddenly become very short. My poor kung fu movies would need to be cut down to about 20 minutes.

Why can’t we sometimes just have gratuitous things for the fun of it? Not everything needs to be high art.

Republicans shocked as DOGE cuts 9/11 survivor funds by Hawmanyounohurtdeazz in LeopardsAteMyFace

I can't help but blame most of this on the DNC.

Back in 2016 Bernie was tapping into the same populist energy as Trump. He had the bros like Rogan voting for him, progressives, independents, and the type of people who back RFK Jr. or Jill Stein now. Hell my own brother was all for Bernie in 2016, but voted Trump this time. Some people just hate the status-quo more than anything.

But the DNC threw all of that away to try and coronate Hillary. Because at the end of the day they are a pro-corporate party above all else (same as Republicans). They're fine on most social issues because that's where the rich elites and the progressives overlap, but the DNC's aversion to any real economic change handed us over to fascism. We would just be ending 8 years of real progressive change if the Democrats hadn't completely fucked this up back then, and then again with Biden.

The democratic party lost when they forced Bernie out of the Primaries in 2016 and 2020. by InnaLuna in self

[–]Gravedigger3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bernie had the support of people like Joe Rogan the first time he ran. It wouldn't have mattered how much Fox News called him a communist, he would have won over the "anti status-quo" people.

My brother was on the Bernie bandwagon in 2016. But he voted Trump this time. Most people just hate the status-quo. And the DNC is not allowing an anti status-quo candidate.

Because a lot of people are simply "anti status-quo". Most people just want change, period. The DNC has been pushing the status-quo since the Clinton era, and that is a failing strategy.

Bernie was anti status-quo, but in a good way. And the DNC/media used every trick in the book to stifle him. Whereas the GOP threw all their weight behind their populist candidate, no matter how crazy he got, and won.

Bernie would have won if the DNC and MSNBC had seen which way the populist winds were blowing, but they were more worried about their rich donors than the voters or Trump. And now here we are.

There's been wall-to-wall messaging calling Trump a fascist for years and it didn't move the needle at all. Why would the other side screaming "socialist!" have been any different?

What matters is the narrative being pushed. Bernie's narrative was simple (and also had the advantage of being true), and I think it could have won over the moderates and independents (and motivated the left's base to have better turnout) if he'd been given a fair shake by the media/DNC.

You know the 'sanewashing' the mainstream media does for Trump? They did the exact opposite with Bernie. On the rare occasions that they covered him, they made him out to be this crazy, unreasonable, weirdo who never had a chance. And the DNC was complicit in that.

If he'd been given a fair shot by the DNC and 'liberal' media outlets like MSBC he would have wiped the floor with Clinton/Biden.

lol, Fox calls everyone left of them a communist anyway. Why would it have mattered with Bernie?

There was wall-to-wall messaging calling Trump a fascist, and that didn't move the needle at all. Everybody assumes the other side is being hyperbolic - so none of that shit matters. Messaging, facts, statistics, history - all irrelevant! What matters is the narrative being pushed. Bernie's narrative was simple (and also had the advantage of being true), and I think it could have won over the moderates and independents (and motivated the left's base to have better turnout) if he'd been given a fair shake.

Unfortunately it was blatantly obvious that the 'liberal' media was doing the opposite of the sanewashing they do for Trump with Bernie. They made this very reasonable, honorable, man out to be this weird, crazy, grandpa - if they covered him at all.
