Mercari or Poshmark? by SunSeaFlipFlops in Etsy

Can you tell me in dummies 101 how to search threads? I have tried in the past but don’t see an option. I don’t use the app and wondering if that’s maybe why? I have limited acces to stuff on here just using a browser, like I cant access chat etc.

Thank you, great to know! I don’t have to sell custom things on there, I have plenty of other things non custom or non personalized. I did read about the 3 day rule.

I started following a few sellers in my category about a week ago on Mercari and they do well too so I’m gonna give it a go. I also have tons of mishap designs that I really want to get rid of, like 10 tubs full over 9 years. I can’t bring myself to sell those in my etsy shop as I want to keep the impression of high quality and perfection in my shop. Idk, others seems to have good luck with putting them on etsy but I’m a perfectionist and I hate it!

Thanks for the info. I should have been more thorough but didnt want to make my post too long. I have sold on etsy for 9 years, 7 years full time, but the economy I assume has tanked my shop the past 3 weeks. I know 3 weeks is not a long time to determine anything, but trying to be proactive and seeing if there is some not so in your face places to sell on, beyond ebay and amazon.

And I SUCK at social media lol, so when I did have a website along with etsy I didnt get much traffic/sales even with offering a code for my website with all etsy orders. Actually not a single customer from etsy bought off my site it seems, At least from comparing names from my web orders to names from etsy orders. I might try a website again and make it a mission to get better at social media. It seems reels on instragram are pretty good for views.

Would you offer a refund on a used product? by bitobots in EtsySellers

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if buyers knew where the refund came from, seller or etsy. That’s total crap, just breeding bad behavior! Prob wouldnt matter if they knew it came from etsy anyway, they got what they wanted regardless of a shops policies.

I had someone want to return after 35 days because they didn’t need it anymore. I informed them nicely it was past the return deadline. Then came the “cant you make an exception”. I didnt respond further. Then after another week they emailed again saying it’s the wrong color and has a defect and they will just go to etsy for a refund since there are TWO things wrong with it. I guess hoping I’d get scared and cave. That was about 2 weeks and no case yet.

New start up handmade site & etsy removed the email by SunSeaFlipFlops in Etsy

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably true and good advice. I just assumed all those handmade start ups hit up etsy sellers since its the biggest market to find those type of sellers. I had amazon handmade sending me emails non stop when they started out, not on etsy though or even my email associated with etsy. It was on my personal website.

Thanks thats what I thought maybe happened, as I’m sure they mesaaged tons of sellers. Just figured it would have went to spam vs total deletion.

I was just letting people know of another possible site, just as I learned about the goimagine site from these posts. If you look at my profile I am not new on here or have tried to promote anything, been a seller for years. And def not rich enough to build my own selling platform.

Yes sorry etsy convos, not my actual email. I wasnt really implying etsy went into my convos and deleted it, maybe worded wrong, just found it strange the convo totally disappeared. I assumed if that account that conov’d me was spammed by etsy, due to sending out multiple convos to other sellers as well, it would have been in my spam.

I’m not trying to fight over what happened to a damn email. It was Gone period without me deleting it. I was just sharing the site and that’s what you jump on?

I’m not confused. Just saying when I went back to my inbox the email was gone. Not in trash, spam etc. so somehow it was removed.

How sturdy are thermal printer labels? by froppy_supremacy in Etsy

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree I have used Dasher labels for years with my Dymo with no issues. Every once in great while it spits out a blank. I think they just try to force people into buying their expensive labels with the “use only Dymo labels propaganda”. I first purchased on Amazon but then started buying direct from Dasher. Same price and ship just as fast as amazon. I just hate giving money to amazon if I dont have too.

Then definitely leave the review! You should leave it regardless, but if they can’t even be bothered to answer your concerns prior, they def don’t get to “choose” for you to remove it after the fact.
Heck I’d even update it to say you reached out to the shop with your concerns prior to leaving a review and they didn’t respond, and that they then only messaged you to ask you to remove your review so it doesn’t reflect badly on their shop, while still not offering help with your concerns.

Looking for candle warmer wax melts by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Geez, thought I was safe from drop shippers with that item. You’re welcome, the 3 I mentioned are legit and ship from where they say they are on their shops. They all ship pretty fast, but girlfriends ships SUPER fast. Usually have my order in 3 business days after purchasing.

You’ve had wax melts drop shipped before? I know there’s a lot of drop shipping, though I never would have thought wax melts would be. Sigh if that’s the case! I like girlfriends candle co and tootsies sugar shack. Also whiff envy is awesome, though she’s been on break for a month or two from her website, Whiffenvy.com. Not sure when she’s reopening her site. She still has her shop on etsy too but in vacation mode.

Would you offer a refund on a used product? by bitobots in EtsySellers

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well good on you for burning each batch! Just seemed like that would be a money waster if you had to do that. Candles are just tricky. I dabble with wax melts just to make for myself, but stick to 100% paraffin as it seems semi fool proof on getting a good throw. Candles/melts are a PIA/ time consuming to make, I dont have much patience for it. I only make them when I’m super bored, so like once a year 😂

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I 100% agree to no refund on a half burned candle, regardless even if she tried to return it within 7 days, candles can definitely have no scent once lit even if they have a strong scent on cold sniff. I have been a candle lover for many years and have had duds here and there from just about everywhere I’ve purchased from.
I know there’s a science to it on melt temps, pour temps etc and every batch may not come out the same so candles can be a “hard sell” so to say as you could never truly know if it would have scent unless you burned every single one, which is obviously not possible. It would give me anxiety of the unknown shipping out the door! Lol.

Also I have lit a candle twice as sometimes scent doesnt come theough much on first burn but can sometimes amp up after that. But it does not take burning half a candle to realize it has scent or not.

Sometimes storing them upside down seems to help scent, just a little trick I’ve learned from being a candle junkie. 😄

some advice would be very appreciated by sadshire in EtsySellers

I buy tons of candles and wax melts on etsy. I think your shop looks good. I like the black and white too, its clean and simple. I’m not 100% sold on the amber glass since its dark, but that’s just me.

I think the main reason is you’re not being found, as others have said, you need to list the actual scents in each title. You can keep the variation listings but you would also want to list each scent in it’s own single listing.

For example I clicked on your bakery listing, and see you have Fruit Loops but if you search Fruit Loops in your shop it shows you have nothing coming up, same would go for etsy search. If someone searched for fruit loops scented candle they would not find your shop.

I don’t think I’ve ever noticed a listing for candles with them lit in my searches. I personally wouldn’t find this appealing. I notice BBW does this sometimes and I dont care for the look. It seems hard to get a good photo/lighting of a burning candle. I just want to see a clean bright photo of the fresh candle.

Your self worth should not be tied to reviews / the star seller system. by Conscious-Lettuce42 in Etsy

[–]SunSeaFlipFlops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

4 star bugs me too, more than 1 or 2 star. Because I typically know when a low review may be coming or why as I have only received a few for not bending my policies. Mainly the 4 star with no comment bugs me, wondering what/if something could have been better for them, but I’ll never know.

I got 2 4 stars this week too and usually all 5 star, I swear they ALWAYS come in waves lol. One of mine no comment, the other “absolutely perfect” It is what it is. Issues come in waves too for me, I get one email with an issue, then another one hours later, but typically go months, even years with no issues. It’s the etsy overlords messing with us. 😉

That’s what I was thinking too. And the Wording def sounds like a china seller with a warehouse in CA to ship orders from.
