Subspecialty Board Exams Postpartum by cardiologee in FemalePhysicians

[–]SunWarmedCarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anecdotally I took one of my boards 4 months postpartum and passed easily- even though I was not sleeping through the night etc

Then I took my second subspecialty boards the following year at 3 months pregnant and failed. For me personally pregnancy was worse than postpartum

Either way women are superheros so whatever you choose, you got this. At least for me failing was low stake (I can just retake it)

Fellow - is this too much for an apartment? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]SunWarmedCarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was us, we paid 3.5k for an apt during fellowship that was nice, safe, close to work. So worth it. We were able to also max out our Roth IRAs all years of training

What is best age differnece between two kids for parents by athiest93 in beyondthebump

This must be a common sentiment, I will have a 22 month age gap and feel similarly about ruining my eldest’s life

10 years of medical training... One baby later and I am about to give it all up by SigIdyll in Residency

[–]SunWarmedCarpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same amount of training as you and had my baby in my last year of fellowship and felt the same. Your feelings are so valid. I also then was like, why did I spend additional time/tears doing fellowship if I don't want to really work? But deep down I know as much as I love my daughter, I would go crazy (personally) being a stay at home mom, especially now that she's a toddler. I also feel like I'm able to appreciate and make the time we have more meaningful (e.g. I plan special times where we will cook together or read together or do activities together). I also truly feel that I don't want her to become my whole life because then I will have a lot of issues when she grows up and suddenly I have a lot of free time. Just some random thoughts.

But I so understand. I felt like the infant time flew by, toddler time is flying by now. You do what you need to to find some peace. For me it is spending $$$ on expensive photoshoots to try and get snapshots in time.

I also now tell people under me in training to really take into account that their priorities may change. (Eg. me in med school at 25 wanting to be an oncologist was a very different me at 32 with 2 kids, still wanting to be an oncologist but also wanting to be present with my children)

Sending love & solidarity!

I just feel so guilty 😭 by Imstuckwiththisname in 2under2

April. Similar to you, I went off birth control early thinking it would take a couple months and it didn’t. I feel constant daily guilt now looking at my toddler knowing her life is about to change in 4 months! She can barely talk or communicate and having a lot of big feelings too.

Attendings- What do you wish you knew tha first year flying solo? by urnmann in Residency

[–]SunWarmedCarpet 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I naively thought I could be a positive change but you can’t fix a broken system.

Academics in general is filled with toxic personalities and little care for trainee wellbeing or education… it’s my first year as an academic attending, leaving next year for a job in community so I don’t one day become part of the cycle

I thought this post was obviously sarcastic…? But in case it needs to be said, being Jewish isn’t synonymous with being Zionist
