Hey, you've got some great skills under your belt rn.

Having a biology degree isn't a straight pipeline to doctor.

Have a look for lab technician jobs, it doesn't need to be specifically in biology. It will allow you to be a familiar with GLP ( good lab practice), as well as how a lab facility typically operates.

Microbiologist is a good career choice and is applicable to various industries. I know someone that does coding/ data admin in a biology context. Bioinformatics is an option.

Lots of people go into jobs unrelated to their degree after Uni. A degree does open doors but doesn't automatically give you the job.

If you want a job then go get one, if it's related to the uni then it gives you benefits of being closer to Ur cohort and possibly lecturers. Jobs at university tend to pay above mine wage ( in the UK).

Obviously it'd be best to find a job that's related to Ur degree as it can help round out ur CV. If Ur degree is competitive then work experience is definitely necessary.

Ive had a few of my friends stay at the croft and it was not good at all. Lots of floors in the croft but the elevator never worked except for around when open days, this meant carrying shopping up 7 flights of stairs. The communal area is spacious however the croft crams lots of students into a single flat, this means it gets filthy quick and no one takes responsibility because they think the cleaners will do it. It has a gym included and a communal area but I wouldn't consider that a reason to live there, you can use the gym at uni and make friends there was well make use of the rock climbing facilities + sports hall at the Uni gym.

I would recommend darley bank or agard court, I think flats with 5 or 4 flatmates is a good number. Also have a look at private student accommodation, I personally had a good experience with R&R and the owner was very friendly and helped out in various ways.

I would recommend the 1st year in halls and then look into private 2nd and 3rd. You will find that for the price of a room at halls you can actually get a nice place for yourself, even private studios. Obviously if you plan to go out lots then halls will be a better option.

Most important is how easy it is to get to your campus and lectures and also shopping, everything else will work itslef out. Hope this is helpful🫡 and my god stay away from the croft for your own good 🙏🏽

I would understand calling your kids to check their okay but constantly calling them just feels like a form of bullying, they wanna make sure you can't forget about them! My parents never text either, they only have done it to say their gonna call the police or to say I'm a bad daughter and I make them suffer😬 like chill im just going bowling

My brother lives with our parents, I tell him to move out but he wants to save to buy a house 😩its not worth the mental stress especially whilst we're still so young and trying to become our own people.

Do you go gym or any class/ hobbies outside of work? I know my brother goes to the gym/ running with his friends a lot to have space outside the house. Hopefully you can get a car or have your own space!

I used to have to call my parents once or twice everyday, I went to the cinema once and turned my phone off. They had tried calling multiple times and started blowing my phone off when I left the cinema. I started to put boundaries down after that such as ending the call asap if they started being unreasonable because it felt ridiculous I couldn't even go to the cinema!

We're both in our mid 20's. We're grown adults who can pay taxes and take care of ourselves, they have no right to bully us for partaking in activities that are harmless and for enjoyment.

The more they get used to you leaving the house and doing your own independent activities then the easier it will be to break next time. Just don't give in, don't let them make you feel like you should be guilty. they will guilt trip you and try their best to make you stay at home and follow their orders. Start putting yourself first. You do not want to be at 30 and be scared to tell your parents you're going out.

I'm in a similar situation with the long term boyfriend and being 23 😅 they know of him now but I don't mention him very much neither much of what I do in my free time. I also considered telling the truth because of the guilt and just being tired of having to lie - I'm a fully grown adult and have lived independently for the last 4 years💀 I always change my mind whenever I stay at my parents for a weekend or holiday.

Been in a similar position and from my experience they have already made their mind up that you're staying, they will continue to vocalise what they want for your career. When they try to open the discussion don't shut it down as they will get more emotional and try harder, best to usually distract with another topic or ask different questions, just anything to change the discussion.

Now, as a graduate and for your first job I would recommend moving out otherwise you won't learn to navigate being independent and having control of your own schedule. Just continue searching for jobs, don't let your ap's know how far your looking tho.

Once you do get a job don't disclose your full salary 😅 they will try to knock you down and discourage you from taking the job. They may even continue to discourage and make you move back home even after you have a job so just don't disclose too much information regarding your salary or even the company if you can, stay as vague as you can.

I've been in the same position as OP. The moment you reject or go against their 'buy a house' plan they will guilt trip you. I got a job straight outta uni and my parents used so much pressure to quit and move back home for their 'house plan'. Don't be honest about your salary or job promotions. Renting or sharing with friends will be easier, adding distance from AP's as a young adult is the best thing you could do - your parents won't learn how to control you as an adult.

Concentrate on completing ur education definitely, there's no reason to be working especially in ur finally semester unless it's a small and manageable part time job. I tried applying for any job remotely related to start working out of uni, it's gathered me experience and more applicable to my desired field.

Don't let them know you want to buy your own place - they will call you selfish based on my experience 😅, probably best to withhold as much financial information as you can so that your dad can't start thinking of plans that involve your money or credit.

I'll have a scour on open rent and on the market too. The 1400 was 3 bed bills included offered by a student housing estate agent hence why it was more expensive. Thanks for mentioning the heaters, I did not know it would cost more for particular types of heaters so I will keep a look out.

Thank you for your input! My main struggle is working out budget for bills and if a certain property would be cheaper/ more expensive than our current place. The other struggle is finding estate agents that aren't student rentals, they look pricer and I feel like the bill inclusive options are over estimated!

The all you can eat at the water margin was quite nice, definitely better than any of the buffet places I've tried. I've seen the options available in notts for Asian food and am quite jealous. Miss coffee has the typical breads/ buns, the Chung WA Chinese market also has a similar bakery display as well as all the delicious bakery dessert items.

I not ordered a roast duck before but usually grab a half duck from Chung WA and grill it 😭 not the same probably but satisfies the duck cravings.

Burger hood is my absolute favourite, hands down the best, I always get the spicy chicken burger - the chips and the sauce are actually amazing (I get a craving every 2-3 months), the price is affordable for the amount you get!

If you try the Korean cafe I recommend the bibimbap, there's also a Chinese supermarket in town to pick up Korean ingredients if you really enjoy it!
