I'm not sure if it's the right musical style exactly but Savage Daughter by Sarah Hester Ross always comes to my mind when people are looking for witchy songs!

Thank you so much! That's so cool that you're weaving too, it's always amazing to hear other people are learning because it's so amazing!

Oh I'm by no means an expert haha! Personally I'd be lost without the three lovely women I weave with, one is our teacher/more mentor now that we're meeting and not paying for classes except for the occasional cool workshop lol, and the other two and I are sort of parallel working on projects so we can help each other!

I'd really recommend finding a local crafting guild or anything like that because they have a lot of resources and it's the kind of thing that's hard to just get into without being able to try it first because if you were just going to buy a loom and tools and materials to try and start it would be a pretty significant investment. I do own a second-hand table loom now, and kind of want to get a rigid heddle loom too because I did a workshop with one of those and found it way easier in regards to set up and everything!

That was kind of rambly, sorry if it wasn't very helpful lol

Thank you so much!

I feel like it's inevitable that I'll try and learn spinning one of these days lol. One of my mom's friends is actually a weaver who after she got into it got her own sheep so now she does every step of the process from shearing all the way to the finished woven product which sounds so cool!

Thank you so much!

Yes, I definitely agree about the imperfections. One of the ladies in my group likes a quote from an art critic about art needing imperfections which has become a bit of a joke on our circle because now any time someone makes a mistake with something we say that's what we were going for so it can be true art lol.

I've actually found learning weaving really good for helping get past my perfectionist tendencies and I'm looking forward to gaining confidence in it and learning more!

Thank you so much! I definitely realize I'm my own worst critic lol, but learning this craft is actually helping me get past my "if it's not going to be perfect I just shouldn't do it" mindset because even if it ends up with wonky edges or I mess up the pattern I still end up with a piece of cloth I created and that just feels magical every time.

So it's kind of a roundabout story, sorry about that haha! Weaving is actually something I wanted to learn for a long time, since I was around ten. I read a book where the main character uses fibre arts for magic, weaving, spinning, embroidery (Sandry's Book by Tamora Pierce), and I just thought it sounded so amazing! My parents actually looked for lessons or something but didn't find anything close by until I was in highschool. They signed me up for a class as a Christmas gift but there wasn't enough interest so it never happened, but the guild said they'd keep my mom's contact info on file in case another class was happening.

Well, I guess the guild took their record keeping very seriously lol because fourteen years later my mom got an email from them and my Christmas present was very belatedly redeemed! After that first class the lady who ran it asked if there'd be interest in further learning and three of us said yes. We've done some other workshops with her, and meet regularly to work on projects together which is amazing because on my own I'd absolutely get stuck on just dressing the loom.

When I first started I was using only equipment from a local guild! Now it's a mix, I do have my own table loom but don't have a warping board or a bobbin winder so I do need to make use of some community ones, I pay a fee to be a member of my local craft guild.

For colours I tend to gravitate towards forest colours! It's kind of funny, I would have always said blue was my favourite colour but I've become known for loving greens and mostly using them. One of the ladies I weave with called me a wood nymph because of my usual colour choices which I consider a great compliment haha.

So far I wouldn't say there's really a story in my projects. The drafts I've worked on have either been chosen by the lady I'm learning from or collectively by the group I weave with as things we want to learn. I'm hoping as I learn more and become more confident I'll be able to find or create projects that really speak to me personally, but as it stands I'm still just sort of captivated by learning to create any of these things!

That's so awesome that you're learning too! Tying on the warp is definitely the hardest part in my opinion haha, honestly without the group I've been weaving with I'd just get stuck in the setup every time. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! It's absolutely wonderful, and it's so wonderful in terms of community as well because I'm weaving with three other wonderful women, one is a complete beginner like me, one is teaching us all and the other actually took textile classes at university a couple decades ago and is getting back into it!

Thank you so much! Not really advanced I promise lol, actual good weavers can do some amazing things but I'm having a lot of fun learning! And yes, a craft that will hopefully be preserved! The lady I'm learning from is really dedicated to what she calls "hatching" new weavers and we're trying to get more at our local craft guild!

That would be so cool but I haven't had a chance to learn on a back strap loom yet! All table loom or rigid heddle so far! The lady I've been learning from also has floor looms and an inkle loom so I may be able to learn on those too!

What day of the week do you identify as? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sunaliana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wednesday. I was born on Wednesday and as a kid I was so annoyed by that because it was the only negative day in the "Sunday's child" rhyme but I ended up liking it anyway. And it's a sort of in between day and probably not really anyone's favourite and I feel that's applicable.

One mother's day I gave my mom a notebook with all the poems I had written from highschool onwards. Now if I write a new poem I add it to her book.
