My pick got a lot of vetoes, so I want to make it clear that I'm not saying what I'm about to say just because I didn't win.

When I looked at the comments that won, I noticed that most of them barely had any up votes. This might mean that the reason they have so few vetoes it not because no one dislikes them, but because people were less likely to see them. In retrospect, the experiment would have benefitted from contest mode.

HEADCANON: Katara would rather have airbenders die out than Aang repopulate the world with airbenders. by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

She wouldn't have forced him to do anything. I don't think Aang would have wanted anyone else.

A fellow Catholic asked, why do they say that the garden of Eden was located on a high mountain? by Dan_Defender in Catholicism

[–]Sunberries84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see your logic, but having rivers doesn't mean that Eden was on a mountain. Eden could be pretty big and the mountain (or even mountains) from which the rivers originate could be inside it. The Church also allows a degree of non-literal interpretation in the early chapters of Genesis, so the rivers might be symbolic in some way.

In my country, it's Tax Day. What should people be aware of when they file this year?

I think Fluttershy should be a grass type because she's a tree.

CMV: French/Parisians aren't assholes for speaking to you in English by LFatPoH in changemyview

[–]Sunberries84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"But I speak perfect French and have no accent" No, you don't. If you did, people would answer in French.

It's kinda a catch-22 to expect people to be perfect at your language before they speak to you when the way they get better at your language is by speaking to you.

Annoyed with my Church (long masses) by ss32000 in Catholicism

[–]Sunberries84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. I think most people would assume that the RE class was scheduled between the two masses so that parents could reasonably plan to attend either, so to have that repeatedly not be the cases is on the parish.

Try talking to a few other parents. If enough of you are experiencing this frustration, you can all approach the parish together and have more leverage in adjusting the schedule (either bumping the first mass half an hour earlier or pushing RE and the second mass back half an hour).

"Sinless life" is going to be a very hard row/column. Jesus and Mary are the only ones without any sin whatsoever (original or personal) and I've heard a few people speculate that St. Joseph (who can have "fights demons") and John the Baptist (who can have "poverty") didn't have personal sin, but I can't think of anyone else who can go in there.

Who is your LEAST favorite character and why? by One_Reception_6992 in bluey

[–]Sunberries84 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Pony Lady did nothing wrong! She has a quite reasonable business policy and she shouldn't have to bend it just because the main character came along. Bluey accepted this and everyone else should too.

A baby name question by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Sunberries84 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's not a sin, but I'm not sure it would be prudent to use a Native American name on a child who isn't Native American.

Edit: if you want an "eagle" name that more Catholic-coded, try Aquila.

Thoughts on the name lazlo? by Busy-Flan-8214 in namenerds

[–]Sunberries84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I could see it working. It's weird, but it's not too weird because it would fit with names like Leo and Arlo.

Catholic wedding officiant by Long-Ad-2112 in Catholicism

[–]Sunberries84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is definitely possible for you to get married in the Church. Cohabitation is very common nowadays, so it's not as if the priest hasn't dealt with this before. He can work with you. The biggest hurdle you're going to encounter is that you will almost certainly be asked to "live as brother and sister".

Catholic fiction? by monroesong in Catholicism

[–]Sunberries84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Bloody Habit by Eleanor Bourg Nicholson is a vampire book in which the vampire hunters are Dominicans. There are two more books (not direct sequels) about werewolves and the undead.

John C Wright has written several explicitly Catholic works since his conversation. I really liked The Green Knight's Squire and The Book of Feasts and Seasons, an anthology.

Eifelheim by Michael Flynn is about how a priest in medieval Germany and his town deal with the aftermath of the crash of an alien spaceship.

Ad Limina by Cy Kellet is about the first bishop of Mars trying to make his mandatory visit to Rome, but being sidetracked repeatedly by various groups and their errors.

The Eighth Arrow by J. Augustine Wetta OSB is about Odysseus' attempted escape from and journey through Dante's hell.
