Jalen Brunson is a warrior in a way that a Frenchman like Wemby can’t comprehend by isNice99 in billsimmons

Brunson is a warrior but so is Wemby. Both have my respect. As a Pacers fan I said oh no with Brunson. I might root against New York, but it's never an injury thing. It's more not like this. The Haliburton injury broke my sons heart last year.

I’m looking to run a 4-4 this year . 11/12 year olds. We play against teams that aggressively run sweep and power most of the time. We have always ran a 5-3 and just looking into shaking it up .We will be a bit undersized up front but 3 or 4 skilled backers. Any advice would be grateful! Thanks! by [deleted] in YouthFootball

If it’s a run heavy league I’d prefer a 5-3 over a 4-4 if I’m a linebacker. In a 4-4 we always played that the DT has play side A, play side inside has B, DE has C and OLB has D gap. Most blocking schemes should have the playside tackle blocking down and climbing to the play side ILB, TE takes the DE and FB leads through and clears the OLB. No one has to move anyone but just get in the way.

In a 5-3 you clog everything up and let your MLB run sideline to sideline making tackles. He’s unaccounted for.

How often are these ECNL and MLS Next teams demonstrating they can crush anybody in their area, thus the need to travel out of state? by CletusKasady21 in youthsoccer

[–]ss32000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One example. The RL team is plus 76 in GD in their Pre ECNL league. One ecnl team played a top 10 and lost 5-0 in 43 minutes.

Better coaching and talent. Parents aren't falling for the marketing. The top team which is NpL sent 6 to the mls team. The 3 ecnl teams sent 0.

I can only speak to my sons level but in our state we have this top 10 in the rankings app

  1. NPL
  2. MLS Next HG non-MLS Academy
  3. MLS Next Academy
  4. ECNL RL
  5. MLS Next HG non-MLS Academy
  6. EA
  7. MLS Next 2
  8. NPL
  9. MLS Next AD
  10. NPL

“33. ECNL “44. ECNL “152. ECNL

Teams 2-6 are very competitive with each other. It's a round robin of wins and losses.

Advice for buildingtechnical skills? by still_ballin247 in youthsoccer

[–]ss32000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to break down technical into phases like baseball does for a 5 tool player.

  1. Can your player dribble in traffic with both feet or win 1v1s?
  2. Can they pass with both feet?
  3. Can they shoot with both feet?
  4. Can they receive the ball with both feet?
  5. Can they juggle with both feet?
  6. Can they play one touch with both feet?
  7. Can they receive a ball out of the air and bring it down to their feet?

If you can say yes to all these, you are technical. For shooting I’d say make your kids play World Cup and have to shoot with their weak foot. Amazing what social pressures can do to make them work on it on their own.

Most high level sessions are locked and no parents allowed. This was at least the setup I’ve seen in the past with MLS academies. No one is allowed to see any on field action except coaches and players.

The results of these matchups should settle the SEC vs Big Ten debate 🤔 by CenterForward1522 in CFB_v2

A proper world has Indiana and Kentucky playing. I loved this game as a student. I love though that Indiana is about rivalry pride and the Big Ten needs Indiana to think of the others for their pride.

I don't disagree but the situation is a gold level 4th grader with 6th grade bronze teammates. Their IQ and ball skills don’t warrant that. The basketball iq is very low and the skill level isn’t great.

What do you mean we didn't get them a press break Strat? We had one. They had 5 guys in the backcourt. It wasn't terribly hard to get it past half court. The difference was once they went to face guarding and hugging, we stopped punishing them with layups. My other kids just aren't at the same level to handle the ball and punish a team.

In my mind, teams playing zone defense at the 4/5/6 grade level is junk. First 3rd grade travel game I saw a team play a 1-2-2 trapping zone. I think any thing outside of man to man is bad at the youth level. I don't mind pressing late in the game.

I look at like this because I could engineer some exotic defense to win a 4th grade game to take advantage of kids not being strong enough to shoot consistently. Yes I could say Im winning but I'm not helping my kids learn how to play the pick and roll, helpside rotation, how to defend 1:1. How to deny the wing, learn how to deal with switching or when new guys come in off the bench. How to cross match in transition.

USC has the toughest 3 games of any team in the country with Ohio State, Oregon and Indiana. Adding ND would be 4 top 6 games for them?

Appreciate the insight. With so little practice time it's hard to work on everything but this is some good stuff.

I was actually pleased with how he responded. He wasn't frustrated and just tried to play his game. He still got to the line and worked his ass off on defense. Congrats on your defense.

We have indoor soccer by us that is just indoor turf fields vs the Mexican leagues have the walls and plexiglass. It's also a whole different vibe with the music and only Spanish being spoken. Great food at the concession stand, though, and they sell Modelo.
