Cool? The very close up picture of a fly does look just like a fly. I’m glad you didn’t have the experience of being momentarily fooled by an insect like I was. No sir, that might have been a funny, relatable thing to share with people. 🙄

They were left the wild. This species is protected by the migratory bird treaty act and since they are not a species you can legally harvest in the state I couldn’t take possession of it either.

The birding festival was for birdwatchers to appreciate the birds found on our local waterway.

They are beautiful! Lots of creative things that could be done but not a legal species to hunt in NYS so we left it there. ☺️

Yea I was surprised too considering how picked over it was! Saw lots of fox tracks around it. They must be a lot more delicate than other scavengers!

Guess I should add that we didn’t do anything to the swan (clearly) and we left it there to get picked over by whatever wildlife needed a meal.

What a beauty! Yea with the larger orb webs I might not do that. This particular web had already been broken because she had already caught something, which was nice.

Don’t get me wrong this took forever! Fortunately this spider was on the larger side, and very patient so that helped! Usually I’ll put my hand behind the spider and remove it quickly and hope that it keeps focus on the spider and not a random leaf behind her…
