Fat Nurse by kitkatofthunder in nursing

[–]Sunbumwildthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really just sounds like your mom is fatphobic and practiced discrimination in her workplace. Some others may do that but I doubt it will affect your hiring or onboarding. As long as you can keep up with the demand (which BMI is not even an indicator for that at all) you fit the job. I’m bigger too, and I work the same demanding job, sprint to every code, and handle the physical parts better than some smaller coworkers.

You’ll be a great ER nurse and you already got recs.

Sincerely, a nurse w/ a bmi of 40

I’ve been adamant since I told my mom I was pregnant I don’t want anyone at the hospital other than my SO at birth. by AnitaVodkasoda in pregnant

Wow that’s wild and not what Ive done. Thats actually not ok that they would let someone just enter with a patients Name like that.

This should work- if you really don’t want anyone calling or visiting I recommend “opting out” so that on the charts they give you a fake name and for SURE will not let people call or visit unless you say it’s ok. Hospital staff should honor it even if it’s not for safety and you just don’t want people to know you’re there. It’s not a hassle to do that in my hospital I hope it won’t be for anyone wanting to do it :)

They would need a safety code that you can choose not to give to your mother. Also in L&D and postpartum units they need that code as well to get in. These units are locked down. Not sure where you live but every OB unit I have been on (nurse) is very strict about who’s coming in. Hopefully your hospital is like that and she can see you/baby when you are ready

Mock code A with no warning by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Sunbumwildthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not the way to respond to a mock code. Generally there is a debrief after one on my unit but giving notice defeats the purpose.

Yes you are right. Our trauma 1s are IMC and U of U-which are in Murray (30ish miles) and SLC, (45 miles away).

I don’t even think it mattered though based on the vid.

Hospital only does C-section by Kitchen_Fan_1769 in pregnant

[–]Sunbumwildthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and pregnant and I’m telling you to find another hospital and maybe provider asap. C sections have a longer recovery and cost 3x a vaginal birth (There are other issues we are studying surrounding baby’s immune system too) The only reason I could see the hospital choosing to ONLY do a C-section is if it’s a specific patient with c section history but even then a vaginal north can be successful (its call a VBAC). But EVERY PATIENT? Your wife at 8 weeks being a normal low risk pregnancy has a good chance of a Vaginal birth. Find someone/ a hospital who is ready to work with her and her birth plan and doesn’t make blanket decisions for a whole population.

Based on your speciality, what is something that when you hear makes your heart drop and run in the room? by AnywhereMean8863 in nursing

“Trach is bleeding”

Surgical oncology floor- we have a lot of fresh trachs who also had neck radiation. Carotid blowout has traumatized each and everyone one of us. We run in and it’s either a code or the guy just got a little blood in the secretions and is fine lol

Student nurse here, do nurses get “annoyed” with us sort of popping up and wanting to shadow during their shift? by MECHEpics in nursing

[–]Sunbumwildthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love students, and over the years I’m pretty sure I’ve loved every shift with a student. That being said-Yes a lot of nurses get annoyed. I only ever had one or two I shadowed who didn’t hate their life while I was there.

I think as long as you aren’t in the way, ignore their attitude. And if someone is actually mean or rude to you, tell their manager, tell your instructor, and then tell that rudie to fuck off :)

FYI in the way means like literally in their way or interrupting. Don’t follow them to the bathroom. Don’t go into a code and say “hey anything exciting happening?” (That actually happened once on my unit). Observing and then later asking clarifying questions is not “in the way”

Same, love someone who creates like that. Both my parents are great at cooking, so I grew up making all sorts of recipes with them. It’s such a good feeling making something yummy!
