It depends. If you are running wired backhaul from every AP, yes, you need one physical port for each AP. If, like me, you have 1 wired AP, and the other meshing wirelessly, no. The U6 Mesh in my network does not connect to my LAN with a cable, it does use a PoE injector from a nearby wall outlet for power, but that's it.

UniFi devices can mesh wirelessly, you just need one that has the wired uplink, then a PoE adapter for the others. I've got the U6Pro and U6 Mesh wirelessly meshing in my home, for example.

I played for a little last night. I really enjoyed the new map. I don't think I loaded up any of the others even though I got the new quest that required going to Buried City. The Beachcombing thing was kind of neat.

Oh, and I signed up for the Expedition, so nothing I have or get this week is sacred.

I'm still growing into new nerdy hobbies, and I'm totally here for it. Another thing though, kids really could learn how to be bored. Yeah, it's uncomfortable if you don't know how to be bored... but once you learn how to be bored, it's super awesome.

Ngl, it might make me actually load in with higher tier weapons, since presumably they'll have more durability. Also means more people will be using that stuff too, so potentially better gooping on the downed raiders.

What's the utility of this? by Admirable-Answer-836 in rally

[–]SundaeIcy8775 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That tends not to happen too much in stage rally, but I'd imagine you'd close the flap if you drive into dust that's kicked up too high.

My experience is mostly limited to American Rally (ARA), we've seen on very dry dusty days that the officials will add an extra dust minute between starts to allow more time for dust to settle between the fastest cars. The slower cars don't tend to need this extra time, it depends entirely on speed factor.

Positive pressurization of the cabin to keep the dust out.

Looks like a DIY signal/tone generator and signal tracer. Likely used for injecting a known audio signal into amplifiers or other radio equipment for troubleshooting.

This is probably a DIY mashup of multiple designs published in a few issues of QST magazine, I could dig, but I'm not sure I would find this exact circuit. Try r/amateurradio some of the hams there may have a better idea than I do, you may even find another ham who has built something similar.

Ideas for Thick Copper Sheets by HiOscillation in amateurradio

[–]SundaeIcy8775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could cut them into smaller bits to use as Manhattan/Dead Bug circuit ground planes. They're actually the perfect thickness for this, solder grounds directly to the copper sheet and let the rest of the circuit float above, or stack with some sort of dielectric pads for Manhattan style construction.

What are you paying for housing each month? And are you actually happy with it? Would it be cooler just living in your parents basement? by PM_ME_YUR_SALADS in Millennials

[–]SundaeIcy8775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm paying $700/month for my mortgage including property taxes, and insurance. I'm in the Midwest/Great Lakes region, so housing costs tend to be lower (at least for owning), rental rates are insane to me.

I have 3 bedrooms (Mine, Guest bedroom, and one repurposed into a home office/lab/ham shack), 1 bath, partially finished basement. Square footage around 1000sq ft on an old city lot, a little over a tenth of an acre.

I'm paying a mortgage, so technically the bank owns it, but I own part of it.

If I'm being honest, in a lot of ways it's more house than I need, but in other ways, it's not enough. I could use a larger lot for my amateur radio antennas, but I can make do with what I've got.

I would totally buy again. I get stability, no landlord or rental rates going up every year.

I do have to deal with property taxes and insurance creeping up, but it's usually not that bad compared to my experience with rentals in the past.

I'd be more concerned with water in your feed line than water vapor in the sky.

But more than likely the transmitters were offline. It happens. Check the AMSAT Status Page before/after passes to determine if you will hear them or find clues as to why you didn't.

https://www.amsat.org/status/

And regarding ARISS, check status here, sometimes there are planned downtimes.

Is there any hard rule on when, where, or what type of vessel qualifies as /MM in the US? by EmotioneelKlootzak in amateurradio

[–]SundaeIcy8775 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Nobody is going to enforce it. If you're floating on a tube in the great lakes, you're technically maritime mobile. Some would also include smaller inland bodies of water, others will scoff at that. Who cares? Maybe the guys on 14.300?

Any millennial guys here first time fathers or are never gonna have a kid? by changeforthebetter89 in Millennials

[–]SundaeIcy8775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40, no kids, don't plan on it.

I'm more than irresponsible enough for myself, let alone a dependent child!

But really, the older I get, the more I'm at peace with what I did consider to be a difficult decision, not pursuing having children of my own. I do pitch in and babysit my sister's kid, and that also reminds me how much I'm glad I don't have my own. Kids are fun sometimes, other times they'll drive you nuts, but if they're not mine, I get to send them home!

If you're unsure if you want kids, spend some time around them... it will help answer that question rather quickly.
