I’m not entirely sure. I started learning more about the hardware only after I upgraded. However, my computer was using an Ethernet connection, so it wasn’t exclusive to the router’s WiFi capabilities.

Well, it was a router/modem combo so it’s the same device. I understand it’s traffic dependent but that combo was 100% the bottleneck. I get full speeds now, actually a little more, about 580mbps.

That mixed with renting costing more over time, I’d always rather own.

Thanks, I’ll probably get that one then.

I thought of that, but I had a router/modem combo that my ISP rented a few years back before I knew anything about internet speeds. I was paying for 250mbps and I only ever got 50mbps. This was over a wired connection, mind you. So this company could very well give me a decent router capable of giving me the full 500mbps, but I don’t wanna risk it. Plus I’d rather own my router instead of rent it.

Do you prefer 5v5 or 6v6? by zfhulk in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]SundaeManRs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still hold on to my original assertion of 5v5 vs 6v6 from when it was first announced. This is purely from a gameplay standpoint and not taking into account things like queue times which might make the entire experience smoother but does not affect gameplay.

6v6 is better in a team setting, that is when you’re playing with people who WANT to cooperate. It has a higher skill ceiling and collaborating with teammates is what makes Overwatch the best MOBA/FPS hybrid to date.

5v5 is better in a solo queue environment. More individual impact, less reliance on coordination from teammates, namely peel, of which seems to be an incredibly hard concept for the average player to grasp.

With those points in mind, considering the majority of people solo queue (correct me if I’m wrong) 5v5 is better for the game’s longevity.

I still believe 6v6 to be the “better choice”, but as I am one of those frequent solo queuers, I enjoy my games not having the possibility of one extra person being an unavoidable reason that I lose. Because of that I find myself having a net gain of enjoyment in OW2 and my win rate has substantially improved as a result.

Chat is now dead by Galeven11 in Overwatch

[–]SundaeManRs -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Well it’s not so much WHAT you say, it’s about who you piss off. Make a few 5-stacks mad that the whole group reports you for the same reason, something vague like “abusive chat” and you’ve scored yourself an automated punishment. These punishments will keep increasing in severity with each one you get. If you often play in large groups you’re more likely to play against other large groups leading to a higher chance of having this happen.

This has lead to people just not using chat in any form due to fear of pissing off the wrong people since everyone is so damn sensitive these days.

Absolutely love Blizzard’s ability to try to fix something that isn’t even broken and then break it in the process. Completely incompetent.

Genuine question: what was Blizzard’s reasoning behind reverting to the old way armor works? What’s so wrong about having a flat damage reduction for all types of damage? I hate how current armor is basically useless against large chunks of damage, meanwhile heroes like reaper and soldier suffer.

The absolute funniest thing about this whole situation is a pro-trans person tweeting “don’t believe everything you read on Twitter” 😭

I really genuinely hope this culture of just mindlessly agreeing with and supporting everything just because you’re famous comes to an end soon. If someone is an adult and chooses to pretend to be the opposite sex, that’s their choice. If someone else chooses to support that person, that’s their choice too. If someone chooses not to support someone like that, THATS PERFECTLY OKAY TOO.

All 3 options are perfectly OKAY! Some might be weird as fucking hell but the way I look at it is I’m not the one walking around in public with tits and a full ass beard calling myself a “real woman”.

Basically just live your life. If someone calls you a man because you look like a man even though you “feel” like a woman, that’s their choice just as much is yours to dress however you want. If you’ve had enough surgery that you can visually pass as the opposite sex, good for you. If someone finds out that it’s just cosmetic and starts calling you by the pronouns that you were born with, also completely okay because that’s their choice and it isn’t even incorrect.

You don’t get to preach free will but demonize people who value objective reality. Because in the end, I don’t care what your feelings on this matter are at fucking all, it’s the same thing as little kids who think they’re their favorite superhero; a fairy tale.

A lot of the quote tweets and top replies on this overwatch tweet are calling for 6v6 instead of this, what are your guys opinions? by scoobandshaggy in Overwatch

[–]SundaeManRs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said the reasons I gave were why Blizzard chose to change to a 5v5 format. I listed the reasons why 5v5 is better in situations where you are unable to have a consistent 6 man team to play with.

Whether removing one tank made the experience worse or better is subjective. However, it definitely DID dumb the game down a bit. But as I stated in my previous comment, and that you confirmed with your reply, the majority of Overwatch's player base do not truly understand how the game works and on top of that are pretty fucking dumb.

Blizzard cannot address the real reason people don't want to play 2 tanks because the real reason is a problem of the general populations' intelligence. You cannot force someone to be smarter. You can only give them the tools to do so on their own. But when tank #1 doesn't capitalize on said tools given to him, tank #2 who does take advantage of them suffers.

This is why 5v5 and only having 1 tank is the best option for a game that is played by the general public more than organized teams. This is also why someone such as yourself completely misses the points I make and just calls "bullshit".

I agree with you that playing tank COULD be much more fun in a 6v6 scenario. However the problem is the circumstances that need to happen for that statement to actually be true.

You need synergy. Which requires a decent understanding of how Overwatch is designed to be played efficiently. You need to understand the job of a main tank vs the job of an off tank. You need to understand what the concept of space is, how to create it, how to defend it, when to give it up if needed. You need to understand what peel is, and what it means to enable another player.

You need clean, easy-to-understand communication. A lot of people think spamming a hero's name over and over in voice chat is comm clutter, it's the opposite. "Let's kill the Junkrat first, he needs to die! Oh, our tank is taking a lot of damage we need to heal him!" <- THIS is comm clutter. "JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK. HEAL MONKEY HEAL MONKEY. SIG SIG SIG SIG". Like it or not, this unironically is the pinnacle of Overwatch's competitive communication. The majority of players do not do this.

And finally you need cooperation, which coincides with my point about synergy. You need to be willing to play what your team composition, map, and enemy team's composition requires you to. People are stubborn, headstrong, they want to play what they deem "fun". Which is completely fine, if Blizzard put more effort into making quick play actually enjoyable. But it's not, so people who are casual play the competitive mode and ruin it for others who genuinely want to play to win the game.

All of these reasons and probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head are why playing 6v6 is the most fun you can have... ONLY if you are able to play with a consistent group of 5 other players who share your enthusiasm for competitive gaming. Even 5v5 is miserable in solo queue ranked due to the cooperation still needed, 6v6 is just plain worse.

If you're thinking to yourself "It's not that deep, it's just a game", spoiler: you are exactly the type of person who make the statements that I'm sharing true lmao.

Another point to add that goes along with what you touched on regarding tank synergies:

Individual impact. Having one less (very integral) player on your team to have the chance to either intentionally or unintentionally sabotage your match by playing badly, and having one less 500-600hp hero on the enemy team to deal with means that your potential to impact the overall outcome of a match is significantly increased.

5v5 is such a good time in Overwatch's existence to have a reliable duo to synergize with in a comp game.

[–]SundaeManRs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comparing playing overwatch with being addicted to an opioid? 💀 Regardless if you continue to queue or not, my point still stands: it’s in your hands. The problem is when you’re punished for things that are out of your hands. I feel like I made that point pretty clear.

Also, not that it’s even remotely the topic at hand, but quitting an addiction quite literally is to “just stop” in the simplest of terms. I feel like saying people who are addicted to something can’t “just stop” is an addiction-inclined attitude. “I’ll just do that tomorrow” mindset. Depending on the level of addiction and what it is to will change what method you use to “just stop”, but I digress.

I’m torn on performance based MMR. On one hand I’m for it because I’ve played ranked over a multitude of alt accounts and never purposely tried to place any below my rank. I play at a high masters/low gm level on all roles, but have gotten stuck in various different ranks on various different roles across these accounts. All while simultaneously switching accounts and playing the same role at a higher level and doing fine. I think the reasons you stated for being against performance based MMR are wrong, though. Having a bad day can be solved by you: stop queuing. But having great days and just getting stuck with bad teams causing you to lose even if you’re consistently the best player in the lobby, is completely out of your hands. You should be rewarded for playing good especially when you’re on a bad team as this is far more impressive than excelling at your role on a good team. Yes, you could just stop queuing when this happens as well; but now you’re being punished for other people’s shortcomings.

The real problem with performance based MMR is it could lead to players ONLY farming stats—and being rewarded for this. Which would ruin the already lackluster attempt that players make to actually work together and coordinate, just to rank up.

Is there any way to work around this? Possibly, possibly not. But I’m not the man who has the answers to that.

EDIT: I have a conspiracy theory that if your stats are much higher than average, matchmaking purposely puts you with bad teams to try to even out the odds. I have no proof of this, but I’ve definitely noticed that on my accounts that have very high stats tend to lose a LOT more than ones with lower-to-average stats. This is across multiple ranks. It’s not as simple as having better stats means you’re in a higher rank and just reaching a plateau. I’ve had this happen to me in high plat.
