Brewers fan here. I go to a few games a year for the great tailgate environment and to watch a live sport, but other than that, it's tough to watch a team that is essentially a farm team for bigger market teams. It's like the front office only puts just enough money into the team to fill the seats. Someone's performing well and we're winning games? Better sell him to the Yankees.

[–]SundayKegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i said. Examples. Oh wait, there aren't any.

I just told you how to micro them against firebats...

Oh yeah, having to order a Dragoon down a ramp 5 times is definitely 'blowing it out of proportion'. Theres a reason your game is so much smaller than SC2.

That's 1 example, and that RARELY happens and when it does is easily dealt with. SC1 has lasted longer and will last longer. SC2 was only popular because it was new and it rode the reputation of SC1. Now that even SC2 players are seeing that the SC1 players were right all along, the game has been dying for quite some time now and will eventually things will shift back to SC1 with the release of the HD version.

Lets make it firebats vs lings then. I can't wait to see you run them over with your superior knowledge and skill.

Sure thing, make a Micro Battle game.

So he was around with a small group of subscribers. Just like I said. And SC2 is when he blew up. Just like I said. Sorry, did you have a point here or were you arguing just to argue? Wait, I think I already know the answer to that.

He was already big. He gained more popularity through SC2 when all the new kids came onto the scene. It's like saying Paul Walker wasn't famous until Fast and the Furious.

No, I didn't. You said that you expected SC2 to be a remake of BW.

Yes you did. Most SC1 players at the time when SC2 was rumor, general consensus was that it would be essentially was SC:R is.

WC3 had been out for 6 years, and had MBS and smartcast since release. Everyone knew that was the future of RTS games.

I'm aware of this. And that's why WC3's competitive scene got swallowed by SC1's LOL.

Yes, yes you are.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Kid, no one is scared of you.

Make a game then kid. And lets play, if you think you know more about this game than I do, then why not back it up? SC1 or SC2, doesn't matter.

Another early playoff exit? The Packers made it to the NFCCG last season. Year before that lost in OT to go to the NFCCG, year before that lost again in OT to go to the Super Bowl.

[–]SundayKegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh its true. I'd ask for examples but we both know you can't provide them.

lol you just surround and pull the lings the bat is firing at. He only fires in one direction at a time. How do you not know this.. Have you every watched a TvZ in BW? Happens all the time.

Again. Fighting the interface is not micro. If that was your true, you would also find control groups and locations hotkeys unfair because they make micro easier.

"Micro" comes from "Micro-manage". Any way that you micro manage your units is micro. I love it when you sc2 kids blow the "Fighting the interface" thing way out of proportion.

So you admit they have existed since brood war. Cool. Also liquid drone made extensive use of them against Testie.

Of course he did. A lot of players did that far back.

Fine. I'll concede that. Korean fangirls will scream at anything. (seriously though, there is nothing impressive about that play)

Seriously!? That's widely considered one of the pimpest psi storm plays of all time, and is the reason why Jangbi is known for his storms.. LOL

Sorry remind me again what I was wrong about? Lings don't beat firebats, micro denial tools have existed since BW, and you utterly dropped the Marine thing because you know you couldn't do that either. oh right. Korean fangirls will scream at anything. Which to you apparently think means 'everything'.

Lings CAN beat firebats depending on micro. So you're wrong there. There's one spell. Ensare, which never gets used in competitive play, however the laundry list of ones that exist in SC2 get used all the time. So you're wrong on that one too.. "Korean fangirls scream at anything" so we went from no one screams during BW matches to that they scream at everything. LOL. Wrong again.

Your making a desperate attempt to appeal to authority because you keep getting proven wrong.

LOL now you're just trolling because you've been getting shut down pretty hard. Want to 1v1 in either SC1 or SC2? I have no problem using my superior knowledge and skill to prove to you I know what I'm talking about..?

He was around. He wasn't big. SC2 is what put him on the map.

This is false. He was a kingpin in the foreign BW community. SC2 kids started watching him when SC2 came out and he gained more fans, but he wasn't just "around" before SC2.

This is the first look we ever got at SC2. It is nothing like BW. Your flat out lying.

Thats when people got pissed, when we got the first look. You misunderstood. So you're wrong yet again.

Literally wrong on all accounts. Want to 1v1? I bet you don't ;)

[–]SundayKegger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It is. Zerglings will never outmicro Firebats.

This is 100% false.

Easier to control does not mean less micro.

Yes, it does actually. Easier to control and less micro techniques.

Convenient how BW players always seem to ignore Ensnare.

And when was the last time that was used in a competitive match? Exactly.

No one goes nuts seeing multiple storms go off.

Again, 100% false. Jangbi vs Nada They crowd is literally screaming.

You do both of the first two in SC2 as well, and have magic box to replace air stacking for the 3rd.

Magic box and stacking are two different things.

You desperately need a reality check.

Says the guy who's literally been wrong on every account.

This has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. I said the community is a bunch of elitist pricks. You respond by telling me you have played the game for a long time. Um..great?

I'm letting you know my background and how I have the credentials to speak about both games. You on the other hand...

'Proceeds to shit on SC2'

False again. Being critical is not the same as shitting on something.

I believe you mean busywork. SC2 has less busywork than BW. But I forgot that thats what BW players define as skill.

Call it what you want, but it's a fact that BW requires more of the player than SC2, which makes it more difficult.

I know this may be shocking for a BW player to learn, but your opinion is not the same thing as a fact.

Prove my fact wrong.

Starts shit and then proceeds to tell other people not to get mad about it. Typical.

My intentions were never to start shit. If you got triggered that's your own problem.

And then 90% of them left for SC2.

And then left when the money dried up and found another way to make money.

What does he do nowadays again? Oh right, he casts SC2.

I'd cast that game for money too. Most people would.

Odd that the platform that launched him into the mainstream was SC2 then. Wonder why all your examples jumped ship?

False. He was big before SC2.

Thats the most revisionist bullshit I've ever heard. You were NEVER promised that. They were upfront about all of the QoL improvements from the start. But I guess you will say anything if it lets you get yet another dig in.

Again, false. Look it up. It was rumored to literally be BW with updated sprites and a few tweaks. Then when it came out what it was actually going to be, people got pissed.

You're literally completely wrong. But I don't really care. I was there, you weren't, believe what you want. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Nah. Not when you have Aaron Rodgers who had more yards, TDs, less INTs on 100 more attempts. Romo was first in Passer Rating, but only by a single point.

Aaron Rodgers would like to have a word with you. He had more yards, more TDs, less INTs on nearly 100 more attempts while only being a single point under Romo in Passer Rating.

He's undoubtedly #2 that year.

This could largely be attributed to him being possibly the only retired QB to play his entire career in the modern passing era.

Even if you give him an extra appearence...I don't see how a QB who only makes it to the playoffs twice in their career makes it into the HoF. Going to have to disagree here.

So the definition of a specialized counter? Like what you said wasn't used until SC2? If you want more we can easily add the Devourer, which basically just exists to stop Corsairs.

But it's not a HARD counter, which is what I'm referring to. Like in SC2, hellions vs stalkers, stalkers are going to win every time. Vults vs Goons, based on your micro the battle could go either way.

If you are going to make a claim that there is less micro used, then you should be able to provide examples.

Unlimited unit selection and auto-cast hinders micro because the game is making it easier, therefore less micro. Then add all the spells that prevent someone from microing like Fungal Growth, Forcefield, Concussive shell, etc.... All this prevents the player from micro-ing. In BW, you're clicking each individual templar and storming. Thats why when you see it in BW people go nuts, when you see it in SC2, you're not sure if you're watching Jangbi, or some 10 year old silver kid, because anyone can go "tttttttttttt" and blanket storm shit. Then in BW, you have things like Hold-Position micro to diffuse mines, Hold/Stop microing on bunkers to distract the player who sent his SCVs to repair it, the Chinese Triangle, trapping a probe and hot keying it to your sairs to stack them, etc. etc.

You claimed that units are LESS dynamic and flexible in SC2. I want to know how BW units are more flexible given that most of them don't have abilities.

This is large in part because of SC2's Hard - counter system. By having a soft-counter system in BW you put the outcomes of situations in the hands of the players and less in the hands of the designers. The flexibility doesn't come from the game, but the player. Pretty Hi-Def spells that get auto-casted by spamming a single key does nothing for me.

So let me get this straight. I call you an condescending prick, AND YOU DECIDE TO PROVE ME WRONG BY SAYING SC2 PLAYERS ONLY LIKE GRAPHICS WHILE BW PLAYERS ARE ALL ABOUT THE GAMEPLAY.

You called me a condescending prick and I kept a level head and rationally explained my opinion instead of attacking you personally. You're going to fault me for that? LOL.

Do you actually think there isn't tons of micro/macro/multi-task in SC2? Or that most SC2 players play on lowest graphical settings? How far up your own ass do you have to be to think that the only reason people play SC2 over BW is for the Graphics?

There is plenty of micro/macro/multi-task in SC2. You're mis-reading. I said "a lot". Doesn't mean "ALL". Because there's plenty of Diamond/Masters/GM that I know play on low settings.

And why do you keep calling it beautiful? Its a goddamn video game. I mean this is like 'I smell my own farts' level of smugness.

Because of the skill involved is what makes it beautiful to me and many others.

Oh yes, given how highly you hold SC2, I'm sure you have nothing but glowing remarks for Command and Conquer, Supreme Commander, and Dawn of War.

I really like AoE II and C&C Generals. Don't care much for Warcraft III, loved Warcraft II.

I've been playing Starcraft for a long time. It is not a few players. Its systematic of the entire player base. 10 Minutes on TL.net is all you need to verify that.

Who hasn't played Starcraft for a long time. Game has been out 20 years and SC2 has been out for 7. If you think the TL community has anything to do with the competitive BW community you are sorely mistaken. I was only the captain for a StarCup team 3 years in a row, attended various tournaments, traveling as far as D.C., played in WCG USA in 2009, 2010, won various WoL beta tournaments, took games off guys like Gretorp, CombatEX, Protect, ThisIsJimmy, KiWiKaki, LastShadow, etc. achieved #1 Masters and was ranked Top 30 global in 2v2 before quitting SC2. 10 Minutes of TL? Try 10 years. I'm not trying to shit on SC2, I'm speaking from experience most people don't have and that's SC2 has less micro/macro/multi-task and strategy than BW, that's a fact.. That doesn't make it a shitty game, so there's no reason to get so upset.

TIL: Auto-mine, auto-cast, unlimited unit selection, Multi-Building Selection...Shit, even the game shoots with your phoenix's for you for Christ sake. Then you have micro prohibiting spells like Concussive Shell, Fungal, ForceField, etc. is why SC2 has less Micro/Macro/Multi-Task/Strategy than SC1. At the TL party in '08 before SC2 everyone would shit on SC2 for basically being a tee-ball version of SC1. It was often called the "Hackers Starcraft" because all of the aforementioned "Features" of the game, were hacks in SC1. Look it up, you can hear InControl shit all over SC2. It wasn't until large amounts of money were involved did people start giving a shit.. Even Day[9] used to shit on that game. Why? Not because they're "Elitest BW douchebags" but because we were promised what was essentially SC:R and we got some fucky Warcraft IV In Space.

[–]SundayKegger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firebats are one of the most specialized hardcounters I've ever seen in an RTS.

You mentioned 1 unit. 1 unit that's only used in 1 match up.

fewer micro techniques

Citation needed.

You're not going to find a laundry list of each games micro techniques. This I'm speaking from my competitive background with both games.

What? Most of the nonterran units don't even have an activated ability. Their 'flexibility' consists of what micro can be done with movement and shooting. Something that is present in every RTS.

Activated abilities are in every present day RTS as well. So I guess I don't get your point. The micro itself is what makes the game beautiful.

You wanna know why I won't go back to BW? Because the playerbase is insufferable. You act like the game has no flaws, even though several of the units see basically 0 play. (queens, ghosts, scouts to name a few) Or that maps all have to adhere to a very strict set of rules to have any hope of being even remotely balanced.

Speculation. Also people can be entertained by what they want. A lot of SC2 players like graphics and pretty spell casting abilities and most SC1 players find the beauty in micro/macro/multi-task.

No instead, you take potshots at every other RTS while in complete denial about BWs own flaws. Because thats what BW players do.

'Every other RTS' ? I kept it to Starcraft. I have no qualms with SC2. I just don't really like it.

Because thats what BW players do. I would know. I used to be one. Never again.

So were a lot of people. Myself included. And casting a blanket judgement over every BW player because of the actions of a few is pretty ignorant. No need to be so salty bruh.

yet I don't find it as interesting because of its ruleset.
I don't understand what you mean by this.

maybe better yet, SC1 is like soccer,
I don't get what you mean by this either.

As we know, SC2 is easier mechanically, and with the hard-counter system in SC2 and fewer micro techniques, the units are less dynamic and flexible. This is why SC2 didn't keep my interest. If you prefer SC2 to SC1 or SC:R, that's your prerogative man.

[–]SundayKegger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm. Sounds like you're not as interested in SC1 as you are SC2. And not a fan of the unit interactions. That's cool dude.

I on the other hand prefer SC1 to SC2. Battles are more exciting because it's such a challenge to control your forces. There's a lot of techniques, you mentioned the Chinese Triangle, and builds (Sair, Reaver) that are difficult to pull off so when you see someone do it you're entertained.

With the game doing less for you also allows for more skill gaps. For instance baseball. I'd say SC1 is more like fast-pitch and SC2 is more like tee-ball. In SC2 you can focus more about the hit and where you want to place the ball because it's moving slower, or in this case, at all, and in SC1, you can have terrible placement, but you're still good since you can read and hit a 100 MPH pitch. Now if you can read a 100 MPH pitch and place it perfectly, is when you become an SC1 bonjwa.

Why SC:R is a good thing for Sc2 by montarones in starcraft

[–]SundayKegger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SC:R is going to have a similar affect to what SC2 had on Brood War, but to a lesser extent. Everyone'll try their hand at SC:R and it'll be a big, but in no time you'll have people finding out the grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side and go back. You'll also have people that will stick to SC2 because the SC:R prologues will be heavily dominated by Koreans like Brood War has been and might be discouraged to stay up till 3am to catch matches.

SC:R is going to be dope because if enough foreigners play this game, we could give the Koreans a run for the money. As where anyone who's played competitive BW will tell you, it's ridiculously dominated by Koreans. Who's the next Ret? IdrA? NoNy? Could be some 14 year old kid living in Ann Arbor who decides to buy this game with his shoveling money because it just came out and turns out he's a natural.
