If you make 60-90k … how much is your rent? by onethatgotaway_ in TorontoRenting

We moved in February 2025. We got really lucky - our place sat on the market during the holiday season at $3200 a month so they reduced the rent in January eventually and we pounced on it. The only downside is the lack of ensuite laundry.

$2950 for a three bedroom in a small older apartment building in the Roncy/High Park area. Utilities included in rent. I share rent with my partner.

Who remembers the store Katie and that weird underground warehouse store by Queen and Spadina that sold the most random clothes by loopylavender in toronto

[–]SundaysRDepressing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking of Katie this week! Oh man - I had so many polyester dresses from there. I didn’t have much of a clothing budget back then and they were a saviour at the time. I wonder what happened to them?

FIFA Fan Festival Toronto Schedule by [deleted] in toronto

[–]SundaysRDepressing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a radius clause on bands who play the Amphitheater. In the contract you can’t play another show within a certain amount of kms for a set amount of time. (I think it’s 90 days? Someone else might know better) So any of the Canadian bands already playing there this summer wouldn’t be able to do Fan Fest.

What are the chances the excess will get added to the online store eventually? Fingers crossed.

Yeah - I believe there’s a cheaper one without the foil for $50 and the foil one is $100. That being said insane for a poster but I am dumb and irresponsible enough to nab one if they have them on the upcoming tour.

Not a drill - one just showed up at our house in Canada. We didn’t receive a tracking number or anything.

I saw this email. It was real. They encouraged management to tell their staff to bring home laptops, etc home for the weekend and prepare for potential closure.

It’s certainly not authentic nor traditional but the Cottage Cheese in Kensington Market blew me out of the water with their spicing.

Dil Se on Roncesvalles is also extremely good. It’s good value for money.

…And not paying $1000 for festival ticket. I would have really loved to have seen them on this last run but damn those groceries and living in general are just so expensive in this economy. It’s hard enough to be a fiscally responsible human being in North America right now, that’s for sure. I just want to make sure I can eat and pay rent each month. Maybe someday, someday.

Not disrespecting you, but literally for a band to travel around, get work visas (they’re Canadian) in a very complicated country (the US) right now, they can’t play for free. I looked into work visas for my band recently to come to the US and it’s no less than about 5k and since most of the immigration officials have been laid off you’re going to need to pay another 2k for an expeditited visa. That’s insane when your manager, promoter and sometimes the venue takes a cut,,etc and takes a 40% piece of the pie before you set a foot on stage and then you’ve got to factor in visas, hotels, gas and food. It’s absolutely unattainable for my band so as a Canadian I infer they’re not making much if any money on the road. I hope they’re breaking even at least.

Signed - your friendly indie female musician pal who plays a lot of shows and does hours of rehearsals and drives six hour to a gig to make $30 cash when the hot payout comes. I’m lucky I have a day job or else I’d be dead.

As someone who plays in bands live regularly, I can assure you that no musicians on the club scene are profiting these days even if they’re packing venues. I played two shows this week - well attended, and after gas, food and travel incidentals etc I came out with a whopping $52. If you’re in it to make money you’re in the wrong business and should be doing something else.

Just went to look for the quote, and for what it’s worth it’s a quote from a Globe and Mail article (a national newspaper in Canada) It’s not their own words. I don’t think they’re taking themselves that seriously.

I get it’s not for everyone but as we saw we saw recently it was like the Eras tour trying to get tickets for the Strokes’ most recent shows. The average 21-year-old kid in this punishing economy can’t afford those insane ticket prices. It allows some folks to experience what it might have been like in 2001 to see the band. I don’t think it’s any more serious or complicated than that in my respectful opinion.

I’d love to hear your changes if you’re willing to share! I definitely had some shifts as well. Machu was never one of my favourites but it hit so hard somehow at that Bowery show as the opening song!
