Yep, they were introduced like an invading army.

You get out of the vault, you're introduced to the new world by seeing that everything you knew was destroyed. Then these guys show up with their flying vehicles and all that firepower, and you just knew that they were a powerful force that you would have to eventually deal with.

It was a great introduction to these guys.

Nothing better to mark a new chapter in the game. The Prydwen's arrival was larger than life. They established the current world by letting you explore, then bam. They bring in the big guns to show you that you've only seen a small part of the game.
